00:00So if you're watching this video and you have hair like this, you let it air dry and you're like
00:04worry not my friend, we can make this look like something. I'm David Lopez and I'm going to do
00:09an enhanced naturally wavy hair transformation. Before you see my hair transformation,
00:15subscribe below. So I originally came to New York City to be an actor and I got tired of
00:21bartending, lol. So I went to beauty school and it was a really crazy journey. It was a struggle,
00:25especially getting celebrity hair. I assisted, I was sleeping on couches for the better part of a
00:30year and you know what? I made that dream come true. Now I work with people like Ashley Graham,
00:34Hailey Bieber. It's been a really fun ride. So the hair transformation we have chosen today is an
00:39enhanced naturally wavy routine. Let's take it with language, not trying to control, we're trying to
00:44enhance. It's really about embracing whatever texture already lives on your hair and we're
00:49going to enhance it with some techniques, some products and maybe a hair extension or two.
00:54Okay, so before we get started, I'm going to go ahead and put on this hair that needs a little
01:02bit of, a little bit of enhancing and then we're going to get started on our enhanced wave transformation,
01:09BRB. And we're back with long hair that needs some help. So the first thing I'm going to do is
01:17go ahead
01:17and wet this hair. I just wanted you to see the texture before so you can kind of recognize what
01:22it looks
01:23like. And I'm going to go ahead and pretend that I showered. So I'm going to go ahead and get
01:28this
01:28hair really nice and wet because that is where this starts. And how you detangle in the shower,
01:33that's going to set you up for success. Rinse your conditioner, use a wide tooth comb. I'll be right
01:37back. Okay, so we are back from our shower. What I'm going to do is apply a cream. I suggest
01:44creams
01:45for hair like this that tend to have a little frizz and I'm going to squeeze just a nice amount
01:50into the
01:51palm of my hand. And here's what I want to do for even product distribution. I'm going to glide over
01:56the surface, glide like this, and then squeeze in. Squeeze in. Just want to make sure you really
02:02squeeze. You want to hear that little bit of a scrunch in there. Give your head a shake.
02:08Detractive. And keep squeezing that product in.
02:14While the hair is still wet like this, take a detangling brush or a paddle brush or a vent brush
02:19like this with the product in it. Evenly distribute. If you see frizz when it's wet,
02:25you're going to see frizz when it's dry. Remember that. I discovered my passion for hair. God,
02:31I feel like I was born with the passion for hair. I have very vivid memories of instantly being
02:36obsessed with My Little Ponies, except I would hold them backwards and play with the ponytail
02:39instead of the actual My Little Pony. And then that transformed into doing my mom's hair,
02:44doing my sister's hair. I'm Puerto Rican. It's a part of our culture to be obsessed with beauty
02:48in general. It's been a point of contention because I always struggle with my own hair,
02:52but also to express myself and bring confidence to others.
02:58Now to really amp it up, we're going to take a microfiber towel, and I'm just going to
03:05lean over like this and really give that hair a squeeze. Just like that. Regular cotton towels,
03:12terry cloth towels, they catch on those little frizzy hairs that happen around what I call the halo of
03:17your head. So once you catch those, it's kind of hard to go back from there. So microfiber towel
03:22is just a much smoother surface for the hair to not catch on to. It's all about just encouraging.
03:27You kind of want to have it remember what it's meant to do. I do want to get a little
03:31bit of
03:32height here at my roots. So what I'm going to do is take these creaseless clips, put the clip in
03:40so it holds up that lip there. And I'm just kind of pinching up, grabbing, and sliding in.
03:45And these creaseless clips are so helpful for so many things. Okay. So now that we have the clips
03:51in, holding it in place, you can do a couple of things. If you're home and you're not going
03:54anywhere, you can just let your hair air dry, but no touching, no touching while it's drying.
03:58Or alternatively, you can use your dryer and your diffuser. So this is the T3 Micro Cura with a
04:04diffuser attachment. What you're going to do is start encouraging frizzing. How much curls
04:08already happening? Oh my god. Use your diffuser to mimic air drying. So just hold it around like
04:14this. Once it's about like 60 to 70% dry, you can start encouraging the pattern. But let's go ahead,
04:21turn on the diffuser, and get started.
04:27So now that it's pretty dry, what you're going to feel, depending what kind of product you use,
04:32you'll feel what I call as a product cast. Meaning that you'll feel like it's like maybe a little bit
04:36of crispiness. That's okay. You want that. But now what I'm going to do is take the diffuser,
04:40I'm going to start scrunching and encouraging that wave pattern even more.
04:44One thing that I am going to do with the dryer is turn the speed down. Keep the heat the
04:48same,
04:49but just turn the speed down so there's not as much airflow flowing out of the diffuser.
04:53Again, I don't want to encourage frizz, I just want to dry it. Notice how I'm not touching the hair
04:58a
04:59lot as it's drying. One of the keys to this look is that it stays purposeful. If you start messing
05:03with
05:03it too much and you start kind of scrunching it as it's drying, you're going to break up that
05:06product cast and then you're going to get that frizzy halo effect, which it ain't cute. It looks
05:10like you just didn't know how you were doing your hair that day. While everyone's been at home,
05:16I've gotten a ton of questions on social media about, you know, I want to have a change. And I
05:20get
05:20the mentality of wanting to do that, but my number one advice for anyone wanting to do a big hair
05:25change
05:25at home during this time is to not. Please don't. You're going to create a lot of mess for your
05:32stylist that is patiently waiting for you. Just keep up with the hair treatments, learn some new
05:36styles, perfect any sort of styling techniques that you kind of always struggled with. Like
05:41you can master your curling iron, master your flat iron, master an updo, master ponytails. You
05:45can really master a lot of fun styles while you are at home. I cannot believe how much curl I'm
05:51getting. This is what I'm always telling you guys. Whenever you tell me my hair doesn't curl,
05:56it's just frizzy. I'm like, listen, frizz is just a curl or a wave waiting to happen. So
06:00living proof right here. Okay. So my hair is mostly dry now. What I'm going to do is go ahead
06:04and take out these clips, let these sections start to relax a little bit. It's a little bit damp here
06:10in the roots. So what I'm going to do is pick up the hair like this very gently and then
06:14use my
06:15diffuser to keep drying the roots. Hair to me, it's everything from self-expression, artistic expression
06:22to a political statement. It's confidence. We are in the business of giving people confidence. And when
06:28you have confidence, you're better able to communicate your thoughts, your ideas, and your
06:32feelings. People immediately assume that hair is such a, you know, it's just hair, it's just beauty,
06:36but it's so much more. It really does hold so much depth and meaning for so many people. And so
06:41I'm just
06:41so lucky and so proud to work with this industry every single day. As if it couldn't get any better,
06:48I got another trick up my sleeve. So if you are that person that has clipping hair extensions sitting in
06:53your closet looking crusty and dusty, pull them out, girl. You don't need your clipping hair extensions
06:58just to make your hair long. You can actually utilize your natural wave of your clipping extensions.
07:04These are amazing, amazing clipping extensions. They have really thin little wefts that you can see
07:10look just like that. And the wave pattern is amazing and the quality of the hair is incredible. So let's
07:16go ahead and
07:16put these in right now. You're going to have your base one, which is a base of three. And what
07:23I'm
07:23going to do is just separate from behind my ear. And then I'm going to go from just under the
07:30top of
07:30my ear. And I'm going to connect the two pieces together in the back. And I'm going to lift gently
07:36this hair away. Typically what I would do if it was straight, I would tease it. But because this hair
07:41has
07:41texture in it, I don't need to do that. I'm going to put that clip in right in the center.
07:47Bam, bam, boom.
07:48Now the next section up, just above that, we're going to go, you feel the top of your ear, you
07:54feel
07:54that clip. You're going to go about two finger widths up from there. Connect on either side.
07:59Another thing you can do too, which I love to do on my clients, like especially with Ashley Graham,
08:04we put in the extensions first and then we do this whole thing so that the extensions really start to
08:10twist and blend in with your own hair. Perfect. And then the next one is going to be a five
08:18piece.
08:18It's going to go across the widest part of your head like this. So we're going to go right there
08:25to that big wide part where the head jumps out the most. So what I like to do on the
08:30sides is I will
08:31actually put in the extensions in at an angle. It just blends so much better. So I'm just going to
08:36go
08:36right from the temple straight back to the top of my ear. Perfect.
08:43Throw it back.
08:44Then last piece to really connect this front fading pieces, we're going to put
08:48right in here, just like that. To get the hair to blend a little bit more, even though it already
08:54has a natural texture, I'm going to spray a spray called Sugar Beach Spray. It's a texturizing spray.
08:59I'm going to just spray it onto my hair and then I'm going to start scrunching that into the end
09:06so
09:06those ends start playing together. Now with our diffuser, we're going to keep on drying.
09:15So you see how it looks like you can see a little bit crispy? I don't want to see that.
09:18I don't want
09:18I don't want 1999 crispy curls. I want 2020 soft waves. So when you want to break up that
09:26product cast, come from underneath and there's still a little bit of dampness here. I'm going to
09:30squeeze out, make sure it completely dries. I'm just going to keep squeezing and enhancing,
09:36breaking up that cast because I want as much volume. Oh my god, is this not? Once you have
09:41finished your style, you can take a nice lightweight hair oil. I'm going to put about like two or three
09:46pumps, not much, just in this crown to make sure we keep that definition. Any sort of frizzy pieces,
09:52just run your fingers over. Oh my god, you guys are going to die. Oh my god.
10:07This is my actual dream hair and it is as easy as I thought. Remember what I said, frizz is
10:14just
10:14a curl waiting to happen. So if you think that your hair can't do this, trust and believe baby because
10:19there are no straight lines in nature. All hair has some type of body, some type of movement to it.
10:23So see what your hair can do. Use some of these techniques, use some of these tips and tricks
10:28because I feel amazing. You can't tell me nothing. And thank you so much for watching. I hope that
10:33you're well wherever you are and that you found some sort of tip or trick in this video that's going
10:38to make you feel good, bring that confidence up. I believe in you. Make sure you tag me in your
10:43recreations. I'm at David Lopez on Instagram. Thank you so much for watching your Finder 29.
