00:00Jodi is such a vibrant person.
00:04I absolutely love being Jodi's muse.
00:07I trust her.
00:07She knows my hair inside and out.
00:10When you finally get to turn around in the chair
00:12and you get to see that hair,
00:13I literally cannot wait to walk out the door
00:16and take a selfie.
00:19Hey, my name is Liz.
00:21Today I'm getting my hair dyed
00:23with jewel-toned, vivid colors.
00:25I've gotten my hair dyed in vivid colors for years.
00:30I have pretty much now gone through
00:32the entire color wheel with Jodi.
00:36My name is Jodi, and I'm the owner of August Pearl Salon
00:39here in Nashville.
00:42Today I am seeing my longtime client, Liz.
00:45She is also a friend of mine.
00:47I've been taking care of her for almost eight years now.
00:50So today we are creating just pure art.
00:55on the hair.
00:56It's any color in the rainbow
00:58that you can possibly think of.
01:00Yesterday we did our prep work.
01:02The reason why we did it in two separate sessions
01:04is because the lightening process
01:06and the prep time is pretty lengthy.
01:08We were at the salon for six hours.
01:12If you've ever had vivid color done,
01:14you know what I'm talking about.
01:16We had to clarify, lighten, do a shadow route,
01:20and get her all ready to go.
01:22Hey, it's so great to see you.
01:24It's so good to see you.
01:26Today I'm planning on creating just a really beautiful,
01:30melty, jewel-toned look.
01:31I have some really great colors from Paul Bryant
01:34that I've been wanting to play around with,
01:36and I really feel like they're going to look fantastic
01:40with her skin tone, her eye color,
01:42and really complement each other.
01:43So now that we have a nice blank canvas,
01:46what are you wanting to do with your color today?
01:47I kind of just want you to do whatever you want, honestly.
01:50Surprise me.
01:51That's so great.
01:52I have some new jewel-toned colors
01:53that I've been wanting to play around, Liz.
01:55So let's have some fun.
01:56Let's do it.
01:57So since we did so much prep work with Liz's hair yesterday,
02:01today is a much more simple process.
02:04Her hair is ready to go.
02:05It's dry.
02:06All I have to do is get it sectioned.
02:08I just kept it very, very simple
02:10and just did four quadrants.
02:13The reason why I do that is because
02:15I was applying the color very visually
02:18based off of any color that I wasn't able to remove
02:22from our previous divids.
02:24I started in the back, and I work my way forward.
02:27That way I keep a really nice, neat application.
02:34And then I'm able to layer a foil
02:36in between my two sections of color
02:38just to make sure that nothing bleeds onto each other.
02:41And then once I'm towards her face,
02:43everything can lay back and stay away from her face
02:46because nobody wants a purple and blue stained forehead.
02:51I create a melty blended look
02:53by using my fingers, wearing gloves, and a towel
02:58so I make sure I don't get my one melted color onto another.
03:02But I just use my two fingers
03:04and blend the two colors together.
03:06So for the underneath melt, I blended the blue,
03:10which is all Palparite colors, Nightfall, and Sorcery,
03:14and we melted that into Absinthe.
03:16And then on the top section, I used Deviant for her root
03:21and blended that into a combination of Countess, Fireball, and Cupid.
03:27So to prep the hair, we really have to lighten
03:31just to open up the cuticle.
03:33Liz's natural color is very dark,
03:34and we do need to lighten it up quite a few levels
03:37to be able to see that bright, vivid color.
03:41That's why we rinse with the cold water,
03:43the ice, ice-cold water, so it closes that cuticle back down
03:47and really seals that color in.
03:52So I rinse with ice-cold water until the water runs clear.
03:57And then once I towel dry it,
03:59I can apply my favorite deep conditioning treatments.
04:02My go-to treatment is from Eleven Australia,
04:05and that's called Three Minute Repair.
04:08Since Vivids are a semi-permanent color,
04:11they go directly onto the hair from the tube,
04:13so we do not need to shampoo.
04:15We only need to rinse.
04:19Once I get Liz back to the chair,
04:22I'm using Brazilian Blowouts Ionic Bonding Spray
04:26for our leave-in conditioner.
04:27This helps me detangle.
04:29It creates super soft, shiny hair,
04:32and it actually has a little bit of that Brazilian blowout
04:35main ingredient in it,
04:36so it's very smoothing as well.
04:43After I curl Liz's hair,
04:45I really like to separate the curls with a wide-tooth comb
04:49just to create a softer look.
04:53I'm going to finish with Make Me Shine Spray Glock.
04:57It's a really awesome, super lightweight anti-humectant spray.
05:02It adds a little bit of extra shine,
05:03but it really helps lock in that style,
05:06which is fantastic in this humid weather that we get here in Tennessee.
05:10And then she is good to go.
05:12All right, what do you think?
05:14I love it.
05:15Yes!
05:16The placement is perfect.
05:17Check out those pops underneath.
05:19Yeah.
05:22I always feel really confident when I have colored hair.
05:25It's kind of become my thing in a way.
05:29It's something that I really feel like I'm myself
05:31when I have the bright, vibrant, vivid hair colors.
05:35The tone of the magenta.
05:37Yes.
05:38With this green.
05:39They really complement each other well.
05:41I mean, yeah.
05:42And they make your eyes pop.
05:44I left some of her natural in between the highlights in the back of her head
05:49to create a little bit more depth and dimension.
05:52That way, when she pulls her hair forward, it's not super, super bright.
05:56She's got some of that natural, so when it grows out, it's nice and soft,
05:59and it's not the highest maintenance color possible.
06:03The longevity of it truly depends on your home care.
06:06You have to use cold water.
06:08You have to use fantastic salon-quality products at home.
06:13Minimizing your heat styling and minimizing how many times you're shampooing your hair.
06:18It really depends on what you're doing at home to take care of it.
06:23In the future.
06:38In the future.
06:41In the future.
06:42In the future.
