00:00In 2016, I started my natural hair journey by throwing my flat iron in the trash.
00:04I'm Veronica Austin. I'm a beauty and lifestyle content creator, and I'm going to show you how
00:08to change the color of your hair without the commitment using hair paint wax. Before you
00:13see my hair transformation, make sure you subscribe below. This is actually day three
00:19hair, so it's not the best, but it took a lot of work to get my hair from its really
00:25damaged
00:25state to a super healthy state, and there is no way that I'm going to risk that by trying
00:31to do an at-home dye job.
00:33Hair paint wax has become wildly popular in the curly hair community. It allows us to change
00:38the color of our hair without the damage. If you're the kind of person where you feel like
00:43it's just hair, it's just going to grow back if you want to shave your head or if you want
00:47to do a drastic change, then go for it. But for me, it's more than just hair. My hair is
00:51a part of my identity. It's helped me grow to love myself and be part of who I am. So
00:57that's why today I'm going to go ahead and use the hair paint wax to change up my look.
01:02So the first thing I'm going to do is I'm going to change out of this shirt and into
01:04an old t-shirt. So that way, if I get any hair paint wax on it, I won't have to
01:08worry
01:08about it.
01:09All right. So this is the first time I'm ever using hair paint wax, but I've read the
01:12instructions and I've done some research and it says that you should apply this to damp hair.
01:16So you can either use a spray bottle like this one, or you can use a continuous spray bottle
01:21whatever you have at home, or you can go ahead and dunk your head in the shower and get it
01:26wet. And then I suggest using a cotton t-shirt rather than using a microfiber towel, just because
01:33the cotton is going to be a lot more gentler on your hair over the microfiber. So I'm going
01:37to go ahead and get my hair damp and I'll be right back.
01:40Judging by the texture of the product, I'm assuming that this is not going to give my curls any sort
01:48of structure or moisture that it actually needs. I'm going to go ahead and apply my products.
01:59In 2016, I started my natural hair journey by throwing my flat iron in the trash. I've finally
02:05gotten sick of all of the flat iron burns, exhibit A, exhibit B, and I decided that I was going
02:12to
02:13embrace my naturally curly hair and go on this journey. And I'm so happy that I did. It's helped
02:18me grow as a person. It's helped me accept myself, love myself, look in the mirror and truly like who
02:25I
02:25see. That's a good sound. What I'm going to do for easier application is I'm going to section my hair
02:32in four parts. So I am going to do this gently because I've already applied product to my hair.
02:39So I don't want to disturb my curl pattern too much.
02:48I think I'm finding that the easiest technique is to rake the product through my hair. I don't really
02:53want to have any sort of crumpledness. Using hair paint wax is a really fun way to change up your
03:02look without the commitment. Back in the early 2000s, I was an emo kid. I dyed my hair every single
03:10color under the sun. So this is just like giving me a real nostalgia and I'm glad that I was
03:17able to do
03:18this. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to diffuse my hair. For added volume during this process,
03:25you can take these double prong clips and you can put them at your roots. Sometimes the crown of our
03:34hair can tend to be a little bit black. This just makes the process a little bit easier. I'm blow
03:44drying
03:44on warm low. You're going to want to get really close to your scalp but not actually put the diffuser
03:52on your head. So you want to start there and sort of move your way around your head.
04:00I'm going to go ahead and diffuse the rest of my hair off camera so that way this process can
04:04go a
04:04little bit quicker. So now that my hair is completely dry, I usually go in and do something called SOTC,
04:11which means scrunch out the crunch. Scrunching out that gel cast in your hair will help your hair
04:17be less stiff and have a lot more volume. So I initially thought that this color was going to be
04:28like a baby pink color, but it sort of turned out to be like this rose gold purplish color. It's
04:36hard
04:36to explain. It's not what I expected, but it's definitely still really pretty and I like it.
04:44All right, so here is the final product and I'm so happy. Oh, my hair got caught in my lip
04:49gloss.
04:50That's how happy I am.
04:58My hair is still movable. It's not crunchy and also it didn't stain my hands. I was really worried
05:06there for a second. I always used to think that long and straight hair was beautiful, but now I value
05:14the health over my hair over the length of my hair and this is just a testament that I can
05:21still have
05:21fun with my hair, but also maintain the health and the look without the damage.
