00:00I don't want to cut the lace off on my head because I don't want to hurt myself and, you
00:05know, end up cutting my face.
00:06Oh no, oh no, no, no, no, honey.
00:08Hey guys, celebrity hairstylist and beauty entrepreneur Cos Spence here with Refinery29.
00:13I've been doing hair for about the past five years professionally, but I've been doing it for almost all my
00:19life.
00:19I also just launched my first business, Cos Spence Beauty.
00:23Hair is so special to me because my mother was so connected to it, God rest her soul.
00:27She passed away about three years ago.
00:28She was the one that first introduced me to this.
00:31She was my biggest inspiration, the biggest supporter of mine, so I think everything I do will be for her.
00:36I recently did a pink wig look on Doja Cat and I think people loved it.
00:40It was like this really nice, like, strawberry pink shade.
00:44Today, I'll be showing you guys how I got this Doja Cat pink wig, but before we get into it,
00:48please make sure you subscribe below.
00:50So let's get into it.
00:51This wig is from my friend's wig line, Bombshell Studios in Connecticut.
00:55And so I'm just starting by spraying a little bit of water across the hairline.
00:59I'm just going to start in one area first.
01:01So I'm just going to take this comb.
01:03You can use a comb or brush.
01:05I'm going to be grabbing my tweezers and we're going to just start plucking the hairline of the wig.
01:10Just so the hairline has more of a natural finish.
01:14And what you want to do is you want to pluck enough, but you don't want to pluck too much
01:18to the point where you leave any sort of balding spots.
01:21My goal is to make sure it matches my hairline.
01:24Like, my hairline doesn't sit this low.
01:26So I'm just going to move the hairline back just a little.
01:28I'm going to take this brush and kind of just brush everything I just plucked out.
01:35So I'm going to blow dry the wig just so that it's all fully dry because I colored it and
01:40then I let it air dry overnight.
01:42I use Kiss Colors Pink Petal and Atomic Pink and I mix them together and then just put it in
01:49a bowl of hot water, dip the wig in there and then boom.
01:53So I'm just going to do like some quick waves throughout the hair.
01:56I'm going to take my flat iron.
01:59I'm using a one inch and just create some really nice, quick beachy waves.
02:06And I don't want these waves to look perfect at all.
02:09And then after, I'm going to spray it with a little of my favorite OGX multi-benefit spray.
02:16So now what I'm going to do is I'm going to cut the lace off.
02:19Now take this right here and just start going like along the hairline.
02:26Not too far back, but also I like to leave just enough lace there just in case for any like,
02:34you know, any little mishap areas.
02:36But you don't want to leave too much lace.
02:38And I like using this because it doesn't give it that like straight edge finish.
02:44It gives it like a, you know, it gives it a different feel and a different finish.
02:49So I think it makes it look a little more natural.
02:52And so we're done.
02:54I'm about to put this wig on my head and then we're going to apply it together.
02:57So now I'm going to take some clips just to pull all of the hair back.
03:03Sorry, I'm not looking directly at you guys.
03:05My apologies.
03:06I'm just trying to make sure that everything is in the right place before I start going down.
03:13I'm going to start with the forehead area.
03:16And then I'm just going to take the back of this banana clip, which is pretty easy for me.
03:22And then I'm just going to apply a really thin, thin layer of glue, people.
03:28Thin.
03:29And just apply that right above your hairline.
03:33If you feel any hair, like I can feel hair getting in there, then you could grab another clip or
03:40just like a comb and kind of just brush that back.
03:42And then if you ever, you know, like you see how this is happening, just boom, pluck that bad boy
03:46right away.
03:48Pluck that bad boy right away.
03:50And then you want to do about two or three layers of glue.
03:55If this is something you want to keep on, you know, for a long period of time.
04:00I'm only keeping this on for right now.
04:02So I'm only going to do one layer.
04:04And then I'm going to take my blow dryer on cool.
04:08And then I'm going to apply that bad boy down.
04:12Take a little comb and kind of just massage that in there.
04:17You see how it blends right into my skin.
04:20It is a little lighter.
04:22So I've applied a little bit of makeup in certain areas.
04:26Oh, there's hair in my eyes.
04:30Because I have my beard there, I'm not going to be able to tack that fully down right there.
04:34So I'm going to leave my ear flat blank.
04:37But I'm telling you guys now so you guys don't see that and say, oh my God, you forgot an
04:42area.
04:43But it's mainly because I don't want to put glue on my hair and I don't want to shave my
04:48beard.
04:49And then I know you guys are probably wondering how I got my lace to lay down a little flatter
04:52or just to sit next to my skin better.
04:54I just used some of the OGX big hairspray and just sprayed it right on the lace to kind of
05:00melt it in my skin a little better.
05:03So the entire wig is applied on my head.
05:07It looks so good.
05:09Now I'm just going to touch up, again, I'm just doing these cool little waves.
05:14And I love them because, like, they're so cute.
05:18The process of applying this wig was so different on myself versus on Doja Cat because she had just performed.
05:25And so she had on a different wig that another stylist had done.
05:29And so I had to take that off and then rebraid her hair and then apply this wig.
05:35But I love the outcome and she loved the color.
05:38So it was really cool.
05:40And then after I had, like, you know, told her my nickname because I like to call myself the Slay
05:45God.
05:45And she was like, oh, my God, where did that name come from?
05:48And I was just like, I mean, hello.
05:51Everything I do be slaying.
05:53So why not call myself the Slay God?
05:56And I don't know if some of you guys know, but my client roster includes, like, I've touched
06:01Kehlani, Ella Mai, Cardi B, Doja, Megan Thee Stallion, Winnie Harlow,
06:08Normani, and that's to name a few.
06:11Probably call my manager to show her how I look.
06:13And then I'll probably call Ella.
06:17And she'll probably laugh and say, oh, my God, you look so good.
06:21Or in her accent, oh, my God, you look so good.
06:27And yes, I'm talking about Ella Mai, ladies and gentlemen.
06:30And then I'm going to take some of this dry texture spray to make it appear bigger and a
06:35little more value.
06:36And then I'll probably go back in with a brush and just tease it just a little.
06:42And I just love how this came out.
06:45This entire process, I want to say, from start to finish, will probably take you anywhere from
06:49three to four hours.
06:50So you guys can do this at home.
06:51And of course, let us know in the comment section what you guys have been doing during
06:55this quarantine.
