05:01no by the end of it it did feel that way but i think he also earned it on the
05:05front end i think he
05:06was a part of some of the greatest moments in astros history not just a part of it but a

05:10contributor we think about the curveballs in 2017 we think about you know just the
05:15honestly man i don't know if there has been from a pitching standpoint if there has been
05:20a competitor quite like lance mccullers man he's built that one in the very beginning
05:26now did he have some poor injury luck and some poor injury fortune there toward the end that made
05:32it feel like to deal with yeah i mean look there was a it was a lot of bad there
05:36toward the end but
05:37he was a part of literally all the good and all the fond memories of astros baseball that we have

05:43reflect on so i'll only reflect on it fondly of course you would have liked for him to be
05:47more useful with that contract by the end of it he was not kind of chalk it to the game

05:53tippy cap and thank him for the memories he is one of my after jose altuve like i've got a

05:58got like a mount rushmore of like altuve biggio bagwell and as a little kid ken caminetti of like
06:05the astros that really made me astros fans that i really hold dear he is somewhere right after that

06:17favorite astros all time oh that's great i like i'm with you there's a um it would be different if
06:23he got fat and happy when he got the contract and and just lost focus or you know whatever whatever
06:27happened um it would be different the the way that went down it's hard to be um angry at like
06:34personally i get the sports hate from a standpoint of you were stealing money and you didn't do much for
06:39course the last couple of years there were a couple of huge opportunities for him to come back
06:42and and even change the trajectory late and late on the back side of his career it didn't work out
06:48it just it ended up in more injuries and so i'm with you man the the level of respect that
06:53i have for
06:53how he approached the game is through the roof and it's as high as any player out there see even

06:57me though that's hard because like you can tell it was killing lance as much you that he couldn't
07:06he couldn't fulfill what he needed hell you said it in our in our pre-show or earlier i don't

07:13talked so much but you said at some point like man he he he came back injured or even hurt

07:23or came back not getting surgery when he should have that's that's the pushback against the stealing
07:28money argument like even if you want to i get the logic behind that because he wasn't pitching and he
07:33was making this money but he it's like he wasn't really stealing it on purpose right he was old
07:38he wanted to play and you never questioned that that lance was built with the right stuff that he
07:45always wanted to compete correct me if i'm wrong but the hell the last week or two weeks that he
07:49pitched for the astros recently that it came out afterwards that he tried to pitch through some
07:53some pain that he just yeah he's kind of got this to a fault this is this is like part
07:58of his issue
07:59he pitched i think we should all go get a coffee at his place sometime this week he wouldn't mind
08:03yeah i checked the prices were good like he pitched he's he stayed and pitched in that postseason
08:09the the the last championship run when he should have gotten the the he had the um you're talking
08:17about in 2021 had a little bone spurter whatever yeah the one that they lost but he was a part

08:22reason why they were able to get there no no he was a part of the one they won yeah

08:26yeah i remember he went six innings in the long 18 in game we went he went six against the

08:33first then he and then he was the one that just for the philly he took it for the team

08:39all those all those runs for the team and stayed in and gave and gave up innings so he could

08:45bullpen he anyway the point was he avoided surgery so he could get back in time to to help this

08:54in the postseason yeah he's been he's kind of been his worst enemy in some ways and people allowing
09:00him to do that yeah but i'll also say it's but for today's astros it does help answer an awkward
09:08question that i've been asking for a couple of weeks now what do the astros do with lance mccullis
09:13because there was really no spot for him it didn't feel like there was no spot for him in the
09:17rotation
09:17we've gone down that bullpen rabbit hole before and that's just not something that he either seem
09:21interested in doing or capable of doing or whatever the case may be it just didn't seem to be an
09:25option
09:26ever and so what do you do with a guy when you've got maybe one rotation spot left and no
09:32less than
09:33three guys coming back between lance mccullis ronnell blanco hayden was nesky mike burrows is obviously
09:40his own issue but like you've got you've got a surplus of starters and lance is one of them and
09:45there
09:45ain't nowhere to put him all those other guys christian javier ronnell blanco you can put in
09:48the bullpen lance is almost like you got to shoehorn him or pigeonhole him to that starting spot
