02:15Let's go to 11 Alive News in Georgia with this story.
02:20Caught on camera, you can see who the homeowner says is a thief cutting the pump from her HVAC
02:26unit to her home in the middle of the day on Saturday.
02:30Then, in this video, you can see the man lifting up the cage that surrounded her HVAC unit after
02:35he loosened it up using a car jack.
02:38And shortly after that, you can see him loading that HVAC unit into the back of his SUV.
02:43And the homeowner says this is the second unit he's stolen in the span of a month.
02:49I always feel like someone's watching me.
02:51It's scary.
02:51I don't feel comfortable in my home.
02:53The kicker here, Shannadore McClain, the woman who you just heard from, says she just moved
02:58into that Decatur home on June 5th.
03:01Then, by June 11th, he stole that first unit.
03:04Then, come July 11th, just a month later, he stole the second unit.
03:09Now, I reached out to the DeKalb County Police Department to find out if it's investigating
03:13these thefts.
03:14But, I never heard back.
03:16It's the copper.
03:17Yeah.
03:19I think it's the copper.
03:20I hadn't even thought about that.
03:20I didn't think about that either.
03:22But, he took the actual whole HVAC.

03:25And, mind you, she had a cage around it.

03:28And, he still got up in the dirt, just pulled it out, and he was dragging it in the back
03:35of his car.
03:36I'm like, what in the world?
03:38So, you heard that news report from 11 Live News in Georgia.
03:44After that guy did that story, he got a bunch of DMs about, hey, that's the same guy that
03:50hit me, too.

03:57Several people reached out to me Tuesday night, well into Wednesday morning, that lived near
04:02Boring Road, say that man, accused of stealing that Decatur woman's HVAC unit, did the same
04:08thing to them during the same time frame.
04:11This home security video from July 11th shows just the latest string of thefts of HVAC units
04:17throughout a Decatur neighborhood.
04:19Multiple people sent me direct messages on Instagram saying this man on your screen also
04:24stole their HVAC units, some of them even on the same day as one another.
04:29The big part is you're trying to deter them from the theft.
04:33Once the unit is gone, it's gone.
04:36Burton Phillips, who owns AC Armors, who installed the cage you see in this video being lifted
04:41out of the ground from around the HVAC unit.
04:43Keep in mind, it's anchored in the ground with concrete.
04:47Man.
04:47Our first response to the client was, well, I can't believe this has happened because we
04:53make it a point to dig those holes a foot and a half deep and about a foot in diameter
04:57with a slight incline underneath the unit.
04:59Phillips says once it gets hot outside, he starts seeing an increase in calls about stolen
05:04HVAC unit says beyond buying a cage to put around it, there are other ways to keep it
05:09from getting taken.
05:10If you get a flashing light instead of just a motion detector light, something that flashes,
05:15it draws attention and often the neighbors will be annoyed by it and it's something that
05:21will cause them to maybe contact the police.
05:23In addition to that, a radio or something that causes sound in the house that keeps someone
05:28guessing if someone's in the home or not.
05:30I did ask the DeKalb County Police Department whether or not it's seeing an increase in
05:34HVAC units being stolen and I'm told by the department not that it's aware of.
05:39Look, I know we have listeners that are in the industry that are going to be able to help
05:43me with this, but that has all the markings of a dude that gets the copper out of these
05:47things and has a connection and sells the copper because it is expensive.
05:53Yeah.
05:53But that's a lot of units that he's taking.
05:55He's taking the whole unit.
05:56It got to be a crackhead doing this, man.

05:59It got to be, man.
06:01It's pretty professional to be able to, in concrete and you're getting it out of there?
06:05That's a lot of work, man.
06:06That's a lot of work for somebody to be doing that.

06:09And I was a little bit irritated with the HVAC professional on there.
06:14He was sitting there like, yeah, just maybe get a flashing light.
06:18I'm like, what the?

06:20This guy's taking it in broad daylight.
06:23Like, what that little flashing light going to do, man?
06:26Yeah, shout out to the text line who says, get a big ass dog.

06:30That feels like more of a protection.
06:32The thing about it, and I hear you on the possibility that it could be copper, but it
06:36just feels like there's got to be easier ways to get to copper than this.

06:41But there's a lot in there.
06:43I mean, because look, we talk about crawfish on the show, like, oh, it's good, but it's
06:49a lot of work for a little bit of meat or whatever it is.
06:54How much money is this making?
06:56I think this is very specific.
06:58He's got a dude that needs copper, buys copper, whatever.

07:02But again, I know a lot of people listening or in the industry tell me if I'm wrong, but

07:37Just think about the HVAC unit in the back of your house.
07:41And he hauling that, almost cuss, hauling that bleep in the back of the truck.
07:47Like, dog, you better be getting a million dollars for this, man.
07:50And the thing about, you know, selling it for copper or even selling it for parts is the
07:54units themselves cost enough money where I think you could, if there's like a black
07:58market of these units, well, 10 grand, you probably buy like a new unit.

09:05So it's an owner, I want to say, of a Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area.
09:09He decided to come up with a rule for parents who don't really control their kids in a restaurant.
09:16Oh, wow.
09:16And here's CBS News with the story.
09:19I see inviting people like you to my restaurant as inviting my guests into my home.
09:25I expect people to treat that with the respect that visiting someone's home would entail.
09:29There's a child lying there getting changed, getting their diapers changed right next to
09:35another customer who looked mortified.
09:36The sight and smell ruined most appetites that night, but it was just one of several incidents
09:43Shui paid the price for.
09:44It's not about that $5 broken teacup.
09:46It's about the fact that you came into here not respecting the rules.
09:50You let your child play around.
09:53They caused some sort of damage.
09:54You should be directly responsible.
09:55A lot of people very quietly tell me that they support this policy because they don't want
10:01to be seen as nosy or, you know, to other parents.
10:06That's not the case for Jacqueline Grubb, who came to the restaurant for the first time after
10:12learning about the policy.
10:14So when someone actually stands up and says something like this, it's admirable.
10:19And we need more of him throughout the United States being that way, and he can actually
10:25cook good food.
10:26For example, this was a Chuck E. Cheese, you know.
10:29We wouldn't have the same expectations, but I'm just letting people know, hey, you know,
10:32maybe there was a misunderstanding.
10:33You can't blame the kids.
10:35You really can't blame the kids.

10:39It's okay, you know, but it's up to the parents to take the appropriate, to make the appropriate

10:48But at the house of Shway, the hope is to put proper parenting back on the table.
10:54So for those who don't know, he is fining these parents for their kids being out of
10:59control in this restaurant.
