00:00The prosecution has appealed against the Sessions Court's decision to acquit actress ZZ EZ Abdul Samad.
00:07ZZ was accused of abetting her late husband, Bung Mutaradin, in receiving RM2.8 million in bribes.
00:15Berita Harian reported that the notice of appeal was filed at the High Court Registrar's Office
00:20on July 31 with case management fixed for tomorrow. On July 20, Sessions Court Judge Rosli Ahmad
00:28acquitted ZZ after finding that the defence had raised reasonable doubt in the prosecution's case.
00:34ZZ had been charged under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act with abetting Bung,
00:39the former Kinabatangan MP, in the alleged corrupt payments.
00:44Bung, who was also former non-executive chairman of Falkra Burhat, was charged in 2019 with three counts
00:51involving RM2.8 million. The money was allegedly received as an inducement to secure Falkra's
00:57approval to invest RM150 million in public mutual unit trusts.
01:03Bung was accused of accepting RM2.2 million and RM262,500 from investment agent Madi Abdul Hamid
01:12through ZZ at Public Bank's Tama Malawati branch in June 2015.
01:16He also faced a third charge of corruptly obtaining RM337,500 from another investment agent,
01:25Norhaili Ahmad Mokta, through a Public Itikau SQL Fund account registered in ZZ's name.
01:31The charges against Bung were dropped following his death on December 5 last year.
