00:00PKR risks becoming a political copycat if it tries to mirror past on race and religion
00:06instead of offering voters a distinct alternative, an analyst has warned. Political scientist
00:13Wong Chin Huat told FMT that simply adopting past's nationalist and religious positioning
00:19could leave PKR selling an imitation product. Wong warned that such a strategy could still
00:26fail to win nationalist voters while pushing minority and liberal supporters away. He was
00:32responding to remarks by PKR Youth Chief Kamil Munim at the party congress where Kamil urged PKR to
00:38better understand issues that resonate with voters after recent electoral setbacks. Kamil had cited a
00:46past leader's call for Muslim voters to support the party so it could take federal power and end
00:51gambling nationwide. Separately, University Science Malaysia's Ahmad Fauzi Abdul Hamid said PKR's
00:58soul-searching must not be limited to state leaders or party wings but must also involve the central
01:04leadership. Fauzi urged PKR President Anwar Ibrahim to seriously consider leadership succession in
01:11preparation for his eventual departure. He also said Anwar should use his remaining time in office to
01:18deliver reforms that reach the grassroots. For Fauzi, Anwar should focus on strengthening his reformist legacy
01:26rather than placing too much emphasis on maintaining ties within the unity government for political survival.
