00:07to decide whether it should be maintained or increased.
00:10Human Resources Minister R Ramanan told Utusan Malaysia
00:14the review would assess the poverty line, median wages
00:17and employers' financial capacity.
00:19It will also take into account inflation, labour productivity
00:23and the unemployment rate.
00:25Ramanan noted that the ministry has yet to conduct
00:28a specific study on a living wage,
00:31although Bank Negara Malaysia estimated in 2018
00:33that a single person in Kuala Lumpur would need RM2,700.
00:38He added that the Statistics Department now provides
00:41a more detailed measure of basic expenditure
00:43for a decent standard of living,
00:45based on location, demographics and household spending.
00:49The 13th Malaysia Plan also calls for faster wage adjustments
00:53through minimum wage reviews that take living wage considerations
00:57into account.
00:58The RM1,700 minimum wage has been in force since August 2025
