00:01Former DAP leader P. Ramasamy has questioned the low turnout at the party's special congress,
00:07where delegates voted for DAP to remain in the government.
00:10In a statement, Ramasamy called the 52% attendance abysmally low,
00:15with only 2,223 of 4,264 delegates turning up.
00:21He argued that DAP should examine why nearly half its delegates stayed away,
00:25saying their absence could indicate non-support for the motion to remain in government.
00:30Ramasamy also questioned whether the congress result truly reflected the views of the wider party membership.
00:36Of the 2,099 delegates who voted, 1,857 backed staying in government, while 242 supported leaving.
00:45DAP Secretary-General Lok Sufuk said the turnout was still considered high,
00:50noting that party election attendance usually reaches about 70%.
00:55Ramasamy rejected that comparison, saying this was no ordinary congress.
00:59It was supposed to determine the political direction of the party
01:02in the wake of its poor electoral performances in the Sabah, Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.
01:08He added that, given the significance of the vote,
01:12turnout should have been closer to 80% or 90%.
