00:00Starting next hour, in fact, with the Mets, the red-hot Mets, getting ready to take on
00:07the Pirates, and the Pirates are just so glad they fixed that bullpen.
00:13The problem is, if you can't score runs, you can't win games, Scott, and that's the problem
00:19right now with the Pirates, although they had done a pretty good job against the Brewers
00:24all season long until, of course, this last series, but now they're home, they're at PNC.
00:31The Mets, at some point, are not going to keep scoring 13 runs a game.
00:35That's not going to happen.
00:37Thornton has looked pretty good so far this year, but at some point, right, the Mets are
00:44going to be a team like 16 games under .500.
00:47They're eventually going to play like that again, are they not?
00:51Yeah, more than likely.
00:53It might not happen tonight, though, Joe.
00:54And here's why.
00:56Pittsburgh, a mediocre team, right around .557 and .60, but there's no team that has a bigger
01:02split, righties versus lefties, than the Pittsburgh Pirates.
01:06Thornton is a lefty.
01:08Against righties, Pittsburgh is .47 and .36, 11 games over .500.
01:16They're facing a lefty, Scott.
01:17They're 14 games under .500 versus a lefty.
01:22NFL, NFL, MLB worst, 10 and 24.
01:27You know, they're fluky things, and the starters only go five, six, seven innings tops, and
01:33you throw a little.
01:34But when you have that big of a split, then you would be 11 games over against righties
01:39and 14 games.
01:41That's a 25-game swing, 10 and 24 against a lefty.
01:47You know, the Mets are actually live dogs.
01:49You said Thornton's pitched that halfway decent.
01:51Mets are playing halfway decent.
01:53He's got an ERA under three.
01:56Here's the other goofy thing with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
01:58They're the strangest team, right?
02:00They also have one of, if not the number one, split in day and night games.
02:06During the day, you know, weekend games for the most part, right?
02:09They're 31 and 22.
02:11What about at night, though?
02:13At night, they're 26 and 38.
02:16So they're nine games over .500 during the day, but 12 games under .500 at night.
02:26What's the difference?
02:27I don't know.
02:28Is it fluky and, you know, they're playing better teams on during the day?
02:31I don't know.
02:32But that's a 20-plus game swing also.
02:34So you got the wrong swings with the Pirates tonight.
02:38Awful against lefties, and it's a night game.
02:40Got to bet the Mets plus odds to me.
02:43Yep.
02:43Well, it's eight and a half, eights we're seeing for total.
02:47See if some runs can be scored.
02:48But I don't trust either offense at all here.
02:52And listen, Budzinski hasn't started a game in forever.
02:55He's coming out of the pen.
02:57It's going to be a bullpen game.
02:58They did spend some money on the bullpen, at least, Pittsburgh.
03:02But again, if you can't score runs, it's not really going to matter what the, you know,
03:08how well your bullpen pitches if you can't get it done there.
