00:00You've probably noticed a slightly fresher feel to things today compared to how we started the week.
00:06And there's even more fresher air set to push its way through as we go into tomorrow.
00:11Looking at the bigger picture currently, there's still low pressure just to the north-northeast of the UK.
00:16That's driving a frontal system across and that's brought some persistent rain for some and some heavy thundery rain in
00:22places.
00:23That's clearing away towards the east. A lot of the rain in association with that's going to clear.
00:27You can see the isobars getting further apart, so the winds will be easing too.
00:31Then we have high pressure building, which leads to a quieter, a more settled day for many of us on
00:37Thursday.
00:38And then worth highlighting, whilst we still have high pressure in the south on Friday,
00:42well, we have a weather system waiting to come in, pushing into northwestern parts,
00:46and that's going to bring some wetter, windier weather again.
00:50Now, more on the weekend in a second, but let's look back at Wednesday evening.
00:55And you can see, you'll see, there's a fair amount of wet weather across northern parts.
00:59But as I mentioned, that system is clearing away towards the east.
01:02So the heavy thundery rain, that's going to clear.
01:05And even the rain is edging southwards, but as it goes, it's easing and breaking up.
01:10So it will stay quite cloudy across the northern half, maybe two-thirds of the UK.
01:15And there will be some outbreaks of rain through the night,
01:17but it's not going to be as wet as it has been through the last day or so.
01:22So central southern parts, avoiding most of the rain, in fact, across the southeast,
01:26it will stay dry and there will be a lot of clear sky here.
01:30With that, then, temperatures are going to be a bit lower than they have been through recent nights.
01:34We have that fresher air coming down in from the northwest.
01:37And so quite widely, yes, many places will stay in double figures.
01:42But instead of the mid to high teens, we're looking at low to possibly mid to teens, that kind of
01:47thing.
01:48So a bit more comfortable, perhaps.
01:50We start the day on Thursday with quite a cloudy picture across many northern parts,
01:54some sunshine, western Scotland, for example, but many places quite cloudy, a few outbreaks of rain.
01:58Best of the sunshine will be across southern areas.
02:01But through the day, some of that cloud in the north, that will feed a bit further southwards.
02:04So maybe some southern areas will turn a bit cloudier for a time.
02:07But all the while, we'll also see a lot of that lingering rain that will continue first thing on Thursday
02:13morning.
02:14That's going to break up as we head into the afternoon.
02:16So things will turn largely dry for many places.
02:20Not totally dry, a few showers for western parts of Scotland, perhaps Northern Ireland,
02:24and a few showers dotted around elsewhere.
02:26But generally, it's looking largely fine by the middle of the afternoon.
02:30And there will be some sunshine around, not wall-to-wall blue sky for most of us, but a bit
02:35of sunshine too.
02:36Now, we do have that fresher air coming in.
02:38So that's already started to make its way into northern western parts currently.
02:42And that's going to feed further south and eastwards through the next 24 hours.
02:47As a result, temperatures in the southeast are going to be markedly lower on Thursday than they have been on
02:52Wednesday.
02:53If we show that comparison here, then you can see temperatures in the southeast are good 4 or 5 degrees,
02:58perhaps if not more than that, lower on Thursday compared to Wednesday.
03:02And that's already a drop compared to what we had earlier on in the week.
03:05So a real fresher feel to things here.
03:07Slightly milder, or slightly warmer, across some parts of the northwest on Thursday compared to Wednesday.
03:12That's because there's less rain around and it's not as windy as well.
03:16So temperatures are rising with a greater chance of some sunshine.
03:20Through the end of the day on Thursday, most places having a fine picture.
03:23Lots of clear skies across the bulk of England and Wales.
03:26But towards the northwest here, there will be a bit more cloud.
03:29We'll see the wind strengthening and rain pushing in because of that system that I mentioned earlier.
03:34That system's then going to bring some unsettled weather towards the far northwest of the UK as we go through
03:39Friday.
03:40Temperature-wise, in the south, it is looking ever so slightly lower than it will be through this coming night.
03:47Good chance that some places will get into single digits.
03:50And in fact, some prone spots, sheltered areas, for example, rural locations, could get a touch of grass frost.
03:58But towards the north, where we have the cloud, the rain, the blustery winds, well, here it is going to
04:03be a fair bit milder.
04:04As I mentioned, that unsettled weather continues across parts of the north-northwest through Friday.
04:10Windy, wet here.
04:12Further south, though, apart from a few showers, it's looking like another largely fine day.
04:17Plenty of sunshine on offer.
04:18And with a slight change in our wind direction, we're dragging in air from the south.
04:22That means that we're likely to see temperatures, particularly in southern areas, rising a little bit higher on Friday than
04:28they will have done through Thursday.
04:30As a result, we could get back into the mid-twenties more widely across, particularly eastern parts of England.
04:35We're looking at high teens across many parts towards the north, low twenties towards the southwest.
04:41As we head into the weekend, and there is high pressure over us, but that's drifting away towards the east.
04:47That means we're going to tap into more of that air from the south.
04:50So temperatures, if anything, across southern parts, well, they're likely to rise a bit further.
04:54High twenties on Saturday looks quite likely.
04:57Low thirties, not out of the question.
04:59For Sunday, but it all depends on how quickly this system towards the northwest pushes its way in.
05:04It is going to bring some wet and some windy weather.
05:07Look how tightly packed those ice bars are.
05:09Yes, it's going to be quite blustery for August, as that feature makes its way south and eastwards.
05:14Likely that it will really just bring the majority of the rain across northern northwestern parts and further south, staying
05:20dry,
05:21even as that rain pushes eventually through its breaking up.
05:23But just worth bearing in mind, a bit of uncertainty, and that rain could arrive that little bit quicker.
05:28And if it does so, then temperatures will not get quite as high on Sunday as I just said.
