01 July - National evening forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Hello. Yes, another heatwave is likely as we head into the early part of next week, but, and this is
00:06really important, we're not expecting the extreme heat that we had through the course of last week.
00:12And before we get there, wet and windy weather to talk about from this area of low pressure, which is
00:16edging in and squeezing away this area of high pressure, at least temporarily.
00:21These weather fronts providing cloud and rain across Scotland and Northern Ireland through the evening, some heavy bursts, and the
00:26wind's really picking up as well, getting quite blustery and gusty.
00:30The rain and stronger winds spreading into Northern England, North and West Wales before midnight.
00:35Eventually some of that rain will turn up over the Midlands and Southwest England, but not huge amounts, not really
00:40much for gardeners to get excited about.
00:42It turns drier across Scotland and Northern Ireland through the early hours, but it will stay pretty windy here.
00:48A fresher feel as temperatures dip across Scotland and Northern Ireland, at least down into the low teens.
00:55But further south it will be quite a warm, quite a humid night, 16, 17 in some towns and cities,
01:00and quite a misty, murky, grey start to Thursday morning.
01:05That weather front still sitting around here, providing some rain and drizzle initially over Lincolnshire down to South Wales,
01:12gradually pulling its way down to the South, but as that weather front crosses East Angle in the South East,
01:16no more than a little bit of light rain and drizzle really,
01:20and that tends to pull away, so the grey skies replaced by blue skies for the afternoon.
01:25Some showers through the day across Northern and Western Scotland, becoming largely confined to the North East by the end
01:31of the day,
01:32but it could be on the heavy side.
01:33Any early showers across Northern Ireland will fade as well.
01:35It does stay quite wet and windy across Shetland, but elsewhere, although quite breezy into the afternoon,
01:42the winds will be steadily easing as we go through the day, and as the sun comes out, well, as
01:46you might imagine,
01:47temperatures will start to rise once more.
01:50Probably a fresher day, a less humid day, perhaps feeling quite pleasant in the sunny spells.
01:56A warm still across the South East, where 26, perhaps even 27 Celsius is possible.
02:01As we go through Thursday evening, the weather remains fine foremost, a lovely summer's evening.
02:07The winds continuing to ease down, plenty of late sunshine, a few showers trickling into Western Scotland through the early
02:13hours of Friday morning,
02:15and overall, a cooler night.
02:17Certainly across the South, it will be a fresher start to Friday compared to Thursday, with temperatures down in the
02:23low teens here.
02:25Friday then, by and large, a fine day across the South, dry and bright with plenty of sunshine,
02:30some clouds here and there bubbling up through the day.
02:33Further north, the cloud will thicken, the early showers giving way to more persistent rain coming into the west coast
02:38of Scotland,
02:38and we'll see some outbreaks of rain perhaps pushing across Northern Ireland for a time on Friday as well.
02:43And the breeze picking up here once more also.
02:46Temperature-wise, well, it's just starting to tick up, certainly over the Midlands, eastern England,
02:51a warmer feel on Friday, back quite widely into the mid-20s perhaps,
02:56and we're probably not done there either.
02:58This rain coming into northwest Scotland is from a weather front.
03:03That's kind of dangling its way over the top of this high pressure,
03:06which is building back in across the South and will likely dominate the weather through the weekend.
03:11These weather fronts trying to push it away to the South, but not really making a huge amount of progress.
03:16These fronts will bring some cloud rain at times to particularly Western Scotland,
03:21but also maybe parts of Northern Ireland,
03:22whereas this high likely to bring a lot of dry and sunny weather across the South as we go through
03:28the course of the weekend.
03:29If we rewind the clock and look at what the high brings with it,
03:34you can also see that warmer air is wafting in.
03:37These weather fronts trying to introduce the cooler air further north,
03:41but overall the warmer air and the high pushing back in means temperatures could be back up to 30 Celsius,
03:47particularly across the southeast as we head into the early part of next week.
03:51So not the extreme heat that we saw last week, but temperatures are on the rise for many.
