00:00What I plan to do with all these inches
00:02is literally just, like, slap all the haters in the face.
00:07So I really think this weave will bring out
00:10the worst parts of my personality, and I can't wait.
00:13Hi, my name is Sabrina.
00:15Today I'm getting a great weave,
00:16but before you see my transformation, subscribe below.
00:21My hair journey has been long and not always easy.
00:24I think a lot of Black girls, and Black women as well,
00:27especially existing in white spaces,
00:29I think we, like, internalized this, like, racism
00:32and this hatred of our natural hair.
00:34Growing up, you were told that you won't get a job
00:38if you're a Black woman that walks in with red hair,
00:40blue hair, gray hair.
00:41So I've kind of just sort of, like, actively gone against that.
00:45I've had gray and Black box braids.
00:47I've tried to get, like, a great ombre look
00:49that didn't really work out.
00:51It turned out more green, blue-ish.
00:53But honestly, the real reason is, like, my name's Sabrina.
00:56I have a Black cat named Salem,
00:57and I kind of want to look like a witch.
01:01And gray hair helps with that.
01:06I'm Sabrina. It's so nice to meet you.
01:08Hi, I'm Connie. Nice to meet you.
01:10Tell me about this gray weave we're going to be doing today.
01:12Hi, my name is Connie,
01:14and I'm the owner and stylist at Vanity Boutique Salon.
01:16The old quote goes,
01:18a woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life.
01:20And really, that translates in so many ways
01:22when it comes to beauty.
01:23I'm so excited. Let's get started.
01:25These are semi-permanent hair colors.
01:28We have two platinums to one silver.
01:30We're going to watercolor the hair.
01:32It's a really cool process where you heat water into a bowl
01:36along with the semi-permanent color.
01:38Because Sabrina wants to go a very intense shade of gray,
01:42we're going to start with hair that's already been lightened
01:44to the color of 613.
01:45You dip the hair in the bowl of warm water and color,
01:49as many times desired,
01:50until you achieve your color of choice.
01:55First, we're just going to section the hair in four sections,
01:57and then gently stretch the hair with a warm blow-dry.
02:07Okay, so we're all blown out and stretched out.
02:10I'm not super blown out,
02:11because we don't want to blow out to straighten.
02:13We just want to blow out to soften the hair a little bit,
02:16so that we can get our braids in.
02:17Next step is adding in the braids.
02:21Because Sabrina is going for a side part,
02:23we'll part her hair along the side,
02:25exactly where she likes her hair to normally be parted.
02:28Because that is exactly where the closure top will lay
02:33at the very, very closing of her weave.
02:35What does that look like?
02:36That's perfect.
02:37Perfect range?
02:38Yeah.
02:39Great.
02:39So the two front braids are pretty important,
02:43because the hair is going to be resting when we bring it from one side to another,
02:47resting along the anchor braids.
02:50I think it's such a beautiful love language,
02:53like the care that Black women and Black people put into the hair.
02:59My earliest memories are my grandma giving me $2 to scratch her head with her comb.
03:06How does the braid feel so far?
03:07You're so gentle.
03:08This is perfect.
03:10A lot of people think that having your hair weaved,
03:13or even just having braids, that your hair should be tight,
03:17or that it should hurt.
03:18But that's the complete opposite of what's true.
03:21Of course, there's going to be some very slight tension,
03:24because the hair is being manipulated.
03:26So you should feel that, but you should not feel pain.
03:31Once we've got all the braids down, and we've got the scalp nice and oiled,
03:35we then apply a weaving net.
03:37A weaving net is just an extra barrier of protection for the weave, keeping it all in place.
03:43Some people like to just sew the closure down onto the parting,
03:47but I like to band it first, just because I feel like it takes a lot of the tension off
03:53of
03:53those anchor braids. I want to try to put as less tension on those as possible.
03:56Now we have the closure. This is a 4x4 lace closure. The lace closure is going to act as the
04:02natural appearing part that's going to go right on top of this section that we kind of braided around
04:07for the parting of Sabrina's hair. The weave that Sabrina's getting today is a closure weave.
04:12She's not leaving any of her hair out, so she'll have a 4x4 lace closure installed at the very,
04:18very top. This will ensure that all of her hair is protected underneath and that nothing is left out
04:22to be compromised. Once we have the closure installed, we then take the bundles and we
04:27install track by track in an upward direction until the final track met the top of the closure.
04:33And then we would just style and have fun. Because there is such a cost associated with real human
04:41hair extensions, it's really a luxury to be able to wear a weave. And you'd have to put in the
04:47same
04:47amount of effort in the extension hair as you would your own hair if you wanted longevity. Do wash your
04:53hair. A lot of people think that when you have a weave installed, you don't have to wash your hair
04:57or it
04:57takes from washing your hair because all of your hair is concealed underneath. You should still wash your
05:03hair and you should still wash your weave. You should do so by visiting a salon because the next hairdo
05:08is
05:09properly dry your hair. It could be a breeding ground for bacteria. It's a dark and damp place. I've had
05:16experiences where I've taken them down and it just wasn't pretty. You should treat your weave as if you
05:24treat your natural hair because it is hair. Overusing blow dryer, the flat iron and curling iron will basically
05:32cause your hair to dehydrate and break off just like it normally would on your own head.
05:40Okay, we're just about done. I'm so excited to see it. I think you look so stunning. You're giving me
05:47storm vibes. It's beautiful. Are you ready? Yes. Okay. Oh my god. I love it. It's perfect. Oh my god.
05:58It's beautiful.
05:59I wasn't expecting it to be this good. No. Well, gee, thanks. Oh no. I mean, it's gonna look this
06:05good on me at least.
06:06It's going on you. It's exactly what I wanted. I feel like there might be a full moon out because
06:13it
06:14feels really witchy. And it feels like, honestly, I feel like I can conquer the world. This is amazing.
06:20Like, I really wish things were open for me to go out and show this look off to.
