Health Secretary James Murray says there is "a lot more to do" to bring down NHS waiting lists after they went up for a second month in a row, but adds that they remain lower than when Labour came into office in 2024. 00:00And on to waiting lists, they've gone up again, I think it's the second month in a row now.
00:04Does that blunt Labour's claim to be cutting the list?
00:08If you look at the last two months, May and June, they have been the two highest months on record
00:13for attendances at A&E.
00:15But despite the fact that demand has been at record levels, NHS staff across the country have been responding by
00:21caring for patients,
00:22by continuing with their work in the NHS and making sure patients get the care that they need.
00:27And that's why we can see that the time taken for patients to get seen continues to fall.
00:32People are getting seen quicker.
00:33We can see the satisfaction with GPs increasing and waiting lists are 340,000 lower than they were when we
00:39came into office.
00:41So we can see the progress we've made.
00:42We know this is going to be a long journey to turn the NHS around, but we're moving in the
00:46right direction and there's a lot more for us to do.
