Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary Helen Whately says that a new government review into Personal Independence Payments (PIP) only points out "problems we already knew about" and doesn't offer "proposals for reform". Whately says Labour has been "slow" reintroducing face-to-face PIP assessments among other reforms. Report by Keechl. 00:00I think there's a lot wrong with the sickness benefit system, the PIP system that we have, and it's changed
00:06over time as well, and one of the things that we saw in the pandemic is a shift away from
00:10face-to-face assessments to more over the phone. That needs to come back. For instance, face-to-face assessments
00:15should be a fundamental part of the system. The government is being very slow at sorting that out, but I'm
00:20really disappointed in their review today because they should be coming forward with proposals for substantial reform of the system,
00:26and all this review does is point out problems with the system.
00:29And frankly, they are problems that we already knew about.
