RESCUING AN ENDANGERED LOGGERHEAD TURTLE WITH VID BY DIMPLE TILWANI
A routine fishing trip turned into a desperate rescue mission when a group of fishers discovered an endangered loggerhead turtle trapped in a dangerous fishing line entanglement. The dramatic moment unfolded off the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia, when Dan Kirkman noticed several fish trap buoys moving strangely across the water. After moving closer to investigate, they discovered a large loggerhead turtle struggling with thick rope tightly wrapped around its neck. The rope was attached to a commercial fish trap on the seafloor, leaving the turtle at risk as it struggled to reach the surface for air.Working together with another nearby boat, Dan carefully brought the exhausted turtle alongside their vessel and used a knife to cut away the tangled ropes and buoys.
After the final strands were removed, the freed turtle quickly swam back into the ocean, leaving the rescuers celebrating the successful mission.Dan said: "While out chasing mackerel, boaters spotted a large loggerhead turtle tangled in the rope of a fishing trap and struggling to reach the surface for air. After a tense 30-minute rescue, they carefully freed the exhausted turtle, which had become more entangled with every dive.
"Once released, the turtle swam safely back into the ocean, and the crew reported the trap's location to the local fishing cooperative. Although they didn't catch any mackerel that day, saving the turtle made the trip unforgettableThe special moment was uploaded on Instagram where viewers loved it.
A user commented: "Effort here boys, such a good thing to see."Another added: "Such good kindness, brilliant work, new life for the turtle."
