Five gentle giants of the Asian jungle from zoos all over Australia and New Zealand are settling into their forever home - a purpose-built enclosure an hour south of Adelaide. It's specially designed so the elephants can spend time together or, depending on their mood, time apart.

00:01It was a special day for these elephants, a new 12 hectare enclosure after decades in city zoos.
00:08They've done a really good job with the enclosures. You're able to get so close.
00:12They're just so big and majestic.
00:14We just think they're magnificent.
00:16Over the last two years, the five Asian elephants have relocated to Monato Safari Park from Perth, Taronga and Auckland
00:23zoos,
00:24a new forever home where they can roam, swim, dust, bathe and develop social bonds.
00:29The zoo hoping to raise awareness for the species and advance animal welfare and husbandry knowledge.
00:35Although, no plans for elephant calves any time soon.
00:39It's really not our focus at the moment.
00:41Our focus is about trying to provide the best time with these guys and getting them the opportunities to socialise
00:48with one another.
00:49A dedicated team with specialist vets will care for the animals.
00:52And after an adjustment period, the zoo says the animals are settling well into their new home.
00:57We have two that are mixing together. We've got two others that are very close.
01:02They're almost on the cusp of mixing together as well.
01:04And then we have the bull who's more solitary in his behaviours.
01:07Forging new bonds from near and far.
