Transcript
00:00G'day from the Bureau, with your national weather forecast around the country for Friday the 3rd of July.
00:07It's all about winter in southeastern Australia, thanks to this final cold front in a series that we've seen this
00:12week.
00:13That's going to bring another round of showers, hail, thunder, welcome snowfall to the alpine areas, gusty winds,
00:20and maybe some elevated seas and swell on the high tide as well, particularly through parts of Victoria and far
00:25south coast of South Australia.
00:27Otherwise, a weak trough may just bring a few light showers through inland parts of Queensland, New South Wales,
00:32and an upper low will start bringing some more patchy rain showers and maybe a possible rumble of thunder or
00:37two to southern NT as we get into Friday night.
00:41Otherwise, high pressure will dominate the rest of the country.
00:44There should be a fairly dry and cooler day across much of the east coast and the west coast also
00:49looking dry and cooler.
00:51So let's look at all of that in more detail.
00:53Firstly, in Queensland, a typical day in the sunshine state with lots of sunshine right around the place, particularly our
01:01coastal areas.
01:01Might just see a puffer cloud or two, but otherwise a nice day.
01:04Then there's just those lingering light showers as I showed you earlier through parts of the inland areas, but most
01:10will stay dry with that.
01:12Pretty cool though through inland areas, temperatures in the low 20s, getting into the mid to high 20s for our
01:17coastal and northern parts of the state,
01:20as well as southeastern parts of Queensland, staying in the 30s as always for the far north.
01:25Brisbane looking at a partly cloudy, 26 degrees on Friday, and that'll be similar for much of southeast Queensland.
01:32Moving down into New South Wales, and the focus really will be the ACT and around southeast New South Wales.
01:39We're going to see these cold westerly winds bring showers and snow areas to our southern Tablelands, snowy mountains, I
01:47should say, and even up into the central west as well.
01:50Very chilly as well, temperatures probably in the high single figures to low double figures, with those cold conditions spreading
01:56right across the state,
01:58except for our far northeast where they'll stay warm, dry and sunny with temperatures in the mid 20s there.
02:03A chilly one in Sydney after what's been a milder week, 19 degrees, but the wind shear will make it
02:08feel even colder than that.
02:10Classic winter's day in Canberra, cold, wet, windy, bitter in that wind.
02:16Temperatures, while we do say 10 degrees here is a max, it's going to feel much more like 4 or
02:205 or 6 degrees for much of the day.
02:22And we're likely to see snow for the elevated parts around town as well.
02:27Moving down into Victoria, winter definitely here.
02:30Cold, wet and windy conditions for southern and mountain parts of the state.
02:35Maybe some heavier falls of snow through our alpine areas of Victoria and New South Wales.
02:40We're likely to see a welcome 20 to 40 centimetres there from Thursday night to Saturday morning,
02:46with showers continuing across much of the southern parts of Victoria.
02:50Temperatures in the low to mid teens, as we'd expect, maybe scrap of 15 here or there.
02:56Drying out across the far northwest, but showers right across the rest of the state.
03:00Melbourne, a cool 14 degrees, cloudy conditions and widespread showers, particularly for our eastern and southeastern suburbs.
03:08Moving down into Tasmania, and rain will continue across northern and western parts of the state.
03:14There'll be a brief break in the morning, and then watch this next cold front come in from the southwest.
03:19That's going to sweep across during the afternoon and overnight period with even colder air.
03:24Could see snow down to around 400 or 500 metres for our western and southern parts of the state.
03:28So some treacherous conditions if you're heading out and about down there.
03:32Otherwise, a cool day.
03:34Dry on the east coast, wet elsewhere with showers, gusty winds.
03:37Temperatures in the low teens.
03:39Hobart looking at a few showers and 13 degrees.
03:42Maybe even see some flakes in those higher elevated suburbs into the evening, so watch out for that.
03:48Showers continuing in South Australia.
03:49As we move into South Australia, we'll see showers continuing there on Friday in the morning.
03:53But notice that they ease and contract into Victoria during the afternoon and evening.
03:58A cloudy to partly cloudy day in the south with a few showers.
04:01Mostly sunny day in northern parts of the state.
04:05Temperatures in the low teens in the south and mid to high teens elsewhere.
04:09Adelaide looking at a few showers, mostly clearing by the afternoon and 15 degrees.
04:14Now if we move into WA, showers will continue across southern coastal parts and maybe a few inland spots as
04:21well.
04:21But generally dry for much of the state.
04:24Temperatures in the mid to high teens through southern and southwestern parts of the state.
04:28Only warming up into the low to mid-20s through northern parts of WA there with lots of sunshine.
04:34And may even see a few showers up around the WANT border.
04:38Perth looking at a not bad winter's day.
04:4018 degrees and partly cloudy skies.
04:43And then finally across our tropical north, we're likely to see dry, warm and sunny conditions as always this time
04:49of year.
04:50But we could see a few coastal showers on Cape York and across the top end eastern parts of the
04:55Arnhem Land there.
04:56But generally a dry, warm and sunny day in the north.
04:59Cloud and showers maybe through central and particularly southern parts of the NT with that upper low I mentioned earlier.
05:05So it could be a cooler and wet one there at the Rock.
05:08Not too bad though, Alice 21.
05:09And then your typical fine, warm, dry temperatures in the low 30s through northern parts of the NT.
05:15Darwin looking at 32 degrees and partly cloudy.
05:18So with all the weather around, particularly in southeastern parts of the country,
