00:00Is India becoming Russia's middleman for Western tech?
00:03Since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has been restricted from accessing
00:07much of the advanced technology coming from the UK and EU, or at least it was supposed
00:12to be.
00:13A new intelligence report found that more than 50,000 sensitive goods reached Russia
00:18anyway through supply chains linked to India.
00:21These include electronics, machinery, precision instruments and advanced electrical components.
00:25India has not joined Western sanctions against Russia, and says the firms involved did not
00:31violate Indian laws, and the country follows international rules.
00:45What's remarkable isn't just where the tech went, but how difficult modern technology
00:50is to trace.
00:51Today's hardware rarely comes from one place.
00:53A single device can contain chips from one country, sensors from another, software from
00:58a third, and be assembled somewhere else entirely.
01:01Most of these products are dual-use technologies, meaning components that have legitimate civilian
01:07uses but can also help power military systems.
01:10Ukrainian forces are often capturing Russian technology and then they're opening up this
01:14captured material and they're looking inside and they're finding Western components,
01:19particularly high-end Western electronics.
01:21This could allow Russia to access technology that Western sanctions were intended to restrict access
01:26to.
01:26The reality of the globalized economy that we live in today isn't necessarily going to change.
01:31So, you know, this is going to remain a challenge when it comes to kind of verifying
01:36end-use of critical Western dual-use goods and critical Western technologies.
01:41As India's role in global tech manufacturing grows,
01:43monitoring where components ultimately end up may become even harder.
01:47go into the world in this cube and you have a completely different approach where you can
01:47get together and the work where you have a better idea!
01:48Thank you for this!
