00:00Damaging wind, rain and even the chance of a thunderstorm for parts of southeastern Australia.
00:04Aside from that, it's looking pretty good.
00:06I'm Angus here at the Bureau.
00:07This is the weather forecast for Wednesday the 19th of August
00:11and the action is really in this portion of the map.
00:14Look at the rain band here which is through parts of South Australia in the morning
00:17moving eastwards into New South Wales, spreading across Victoria and Tasmania.
00:22There will be some strong winds for some of these areas down here as well.
00:26But away from this corner of the country, it's a fairly settled weather pattern on Wednesday.
00:30Fairly benign across Queensland, the Northern Territory, Western Australia
00:33and in behind this band of rain, quite quickly we return to a high pressure weather scenario.
00:39That means that conditions will fine up and settle down quite swiftly.
00:44Let's go around the states starting in Queensland.
00:46Wednesday is another day where the wind blows from the ocean onto the land
00:49and for our eastern district from Brisbane all the way up here to Cairns
00:52that means that there will be at least partly cloudy skies, if not mostly cloudy at times
00:57with some passing showers.
00:59The rainfall will be pretty low in most areas.
01:02Just a couple of spots to watch that might see more like moderate rainfall through the day
01:05including the Sunshine Coast Noosa area and up around Cairns itself.
01:10A bright and sunny day is expected through inland and western Queensland.
01:14The showers around the New South Wales coast finally starting to clear up
01:19especially if you live near or south of Newcastle.
01:22There's a low risk of a light shower or two but most of the day will be fine and dry
01:26including around Sydney, a high of 20 degrees there.
01:29A couple of showers around the mid north coast and northern rivers
01:31but lots of fine weather too.
01:33Further west we will see some rain move into the far southwest in the morning
01:37around Broken Hill then spread across the Riverina into Wagga Wagga in the afternoon
01:41and a possible wet finish to the day for the snowy mountains, snowy valleys
01:45and Canberra in the ACT.
01:47So if you are up here in the capital mostly fine during the day
01:50but perhaps a wet finish with a high of 18.
01:53It will be a wet day across Victoria tomorrow.
01:56Rain starts off in the west but quickly spreads into central districts
01:59and eventually out to Gippsland as well.
02:01Really blustery winds particularly around the central ranges, the Macedon ranges
02:05through Melbourne and then down towards the Mornington and Ballerine peninsulas
02:08and for those areas we've got a damaging wind warning in place for Wednesday
02:12as those gusts could climb into the 90s.
02:15In terms of rainfall it will be extensive, for many people it won't be that much rain
02:19between 5 and 10 millimetres, enough to make it feel like a wet day.
02:23The areas to watch where we could see a bit more rain than that,
02:25the northern side of the slopes between Wangaratta and Bendigo
02:29certainly could see more like 30 or 40 millimetres there
02:31and the river catchments in northern Victoria are very wet at the moment
02:36so that rain is going to quickly make its way into the river network
02:38and we could see some rivers start to flood.
02:42Into Tasmania, rain will set up for the north-western corner of the state
02:45in the morning and then it is wet there all day.
02:48Lots of rain about and west of Devonport, could see 50 or 60 millimetres
02:53through the course of the day there.
02:54Launceston gets some rain from the afternoon onwards
02:56so wet second half to your day there.
02:59In the south-east including Hobart, mostly bright through the morning,
03:02becoming cloudy but staying dry into the first part of the afternoon
03:06but we'll likely see some showers push through late afternoon and into the evening.
03:10A mild day though, high of 18, but do expect some rain around dinner time.
03:15Into South Australia, it's quite the opposite, some early rainfall for Adelaide
03:19and areas east of Adelaide down through the south-east
03:21across the Riverlands and the Murraylands as well
03:23but that's all acting to clear up by about lunchtime.
03:26Second half of the day becomes much drier, with the exception of Mount Gambier,
03:30we'll hold on to showers there.
03:31Everywhere else does dry up though, the sun should come out
03:34and it will be a pretty settled and relaxed second half of the day.
03:37Adelaide has a high of 18 and pretty good after morning showers clear.
03:42Out west here, we've got a little weak weather system
03:46which is going to graze the south-western corner.
03:48That will bring a few morning showers all the way as far north as Perth
03:52and perhaps around to Albany as well.
03:54That should clear up in the afternoon,
03:56tending to pretty sunny and settled conditions for the second half of the day
04:00across the south-west land division.
04:02Perth has a high of 20 degrees.
04:04Further north, we will actually see a little bit of unseasonal rainfall
04:08start to build in the north-western corner through parts of the Gascoyne and the Pilbara.
04:12A wet couple of days lie ahead.
04:14And finally, through northern Australia,
04:16we continue with some glorious dry season weather,
04:18at least across the Top End and much of northern WA.
04:21It's actually running really warm in Darwin,
04:24much like it has been through the week so far.
04:25Another forecast maximum of 34 degrees.
04:28It's about as hot as we get at this time of year.
04:31Further south, we could see some cloud cover
04:33and maybe a light shower or two
04:34around the Simpson and Barclay Desert areas,
04:36including potentially over Alice Springs.
04:39You can check back in with me tomorrow for another weather update
04:42or you can find your latest on the Bureau's website and app.
04:45Thank you so much for watching and have a wonderful day.
