00:00Is the quarterback battle already over?
00:02Tom Hunkin said that Shador Sanders was going to get the ones,
00:05predominantly with the ones on Saturday,
00:07and then pulled the old switcheroo,
00:09and Deshaun Watson got the reps with all the ones on Saturday,
00:12and apparently the internet went nuts,
00:14and I just went, all right, talk to you on Monday morning.
00:16I don't give a damn. Goodbye.
00:18I watched NASCAR yesterday.
00:19I tried to watch the Guardians game.
00:20Of course, it was rained, almost rained out,
00:23but it got rained in, and then they lost,
00:25which we'll have Anthony Castrovince on to talk about them
00:27and whether or not they're slip-sliding away from the year this year.
00:30That's coming up at 9 o'clock.
00:31Just a lot of downers today, man.
00:33A lot of downers.
00:34See, that's interesting because I remember,
00:36and I went on the afternoon show a few weeks ago,
00:38when they were like,
00:39Lima, you don't seem like you're that into this quarterback competition,
00:42and they had been promoting it as a lot of fun.
00:44They kept saying, this is going to be so much fun.
00:46The Browns quarterback competition.
00:47The Browns quarterback competition.
00:48Oh, you're in.
00:49It's entertaining.
00:50You're more interested in it than I am.
00:51But I was taking the cues from Nick and Jonathan
00:53because they said this is going to be one of the only ones going on
00:56in the entire NFL.
00:57Like, how much fun is this going to be?
00:59And I think they were thinking, well, it's going to be fun
01:01because Shador's going to win.
01:03And then we have a young, budding quarterback
01:05who will be out there to prove everybody wrong.
01:08Well, if he is not going to win the –
01:10I mean, there were people over the weekend saying he's third string.
01:13I don't know where that came from.
01:15We'll talk about that.
01:16But I don't even know how that's possible.
01:18I can't.
01:19Again, I have –
01:20But I think –
01:21I'd like to hear the afternoon show.
01:22I actually can't wait because there's no way they're having fun
01:26if it means Deshaun Watson's winning the competition.
01:31Define fun.
01:34Define fun.
01:36Where you are exhilarated by the highlights, the trackers,
01:41the comments from Munkin.
01:42Okay.
01:43You know, just this –
01:44Can't wait to see what happens today.
01:46That's fun if that's what you were thinking.
01:48Kenny seems like it's the complete opposite, like you're over it.
01:53As far –
01:54What do you mean?
01:54It sounds like you are fatigued by it.
01:57You sound exhausted.
01:57You don't sound like you're having fun.
01:59Oh, no, no, no, no.
02:00I am not exhausted by the Browns.
02:03I'm not exhausted by Todd Munkin.
02:05And, like, I am very interested to hear what Todd has to say
02:09in Todd's process for going and picking a starting quarterback
02:12to start this year.
02:13What I'm exhausted by is all this.
02:16It just doesn't matter.
02:18I do not care that some bot called me bad names on the Internet
02:21because I said that Deshaun Watson's going to start.
02:24And, by the way, I know who I want to start, and it's Shador Sanders.
02:27And what did we say the day he got hired?
02:29What did we say the day that Todd Munkin got hired?
02:31What was I being texted the day he got hired?
02:33About Deshaun Watson.
02:34That this was good for Watson.
02:35That he likes Deshaun Watson.
02:37He thinks he can work with Deshaun Watson.
02:39How – I mean, can I not make it crystal clear?
02:41So, it's not this, oh, my God, I'm going to go hide in the basement
02:46because Deshaun Watson – no, I told you guys that he'll more than likely
02:50get the chance to start and start the season.
02:53Now, just because he starts the season doesn't mean he's going to finish the season
02:57because Ian Rappaport, NFL Network, well, he had this to say,
03:01which I'm not attacking Ian for saying it because it's basically common sense
03:05regardless.
03:06I'll start with Cleveland.
03:07You mentioned the various spots I've been.
03:08I've been to all the quarterback battle spots, spent an early portion of ITC
03:12with the Cleveland Browns, and just judging from the landscape of this,
03:15and I know it is a quarterback battle that is still open,
03:17but it certainly seems like Deshaun Watson has the leg up here.
03:21He is the one who is more well-versed in the Browns' offensive operation,
03:25just really operations in general, running an offense in and out of the huddle,
03:28getting the team in and out of the right play.
03:30It's been a little bit of an up-and-down camp,
03:32and I think it really has been for everyone.
03:34But in the Deshaun Watson versus Shador Sanders, feels to me at least like Watson
03:39is the more likely option.
03:41Shador has flashed in camp.
03:42He has made some plays that make them go, this guy's got some talent.
03:45But just as far as dependability and play-in, play-out, feels to me like Watson.
03:50That said, does not mean that the guy who starts week one is the guy who's going
03:54to end up playing.
03:55My sense is that both end up playing.
03:57Well, I think that week three it could be changed depending on what they do
04:00in the first couple of weeks, and they're coming back home for the first home game.
04:03So I think that that could change, and you're right there with me.
04:05See, this is all part of it.
04:06All I'm doing is I'm actually happy that, no, there has not been any flip-flopping
04:11that has gone on over the last eight months now.
04:13Because you would call me out, he would call me out.
04:15There hasn't.
04:16It's all been the same.
04:17And I'm glad it's kind of playing out the way that I envisioned it playing it out,
04:21because at least it seems like their goals are what they wanted it to be,
04:25so at least they're still steadfast in it.
04:27I allowed myself to even contemplate.
04:29I think it was, when did we play the Garofalo last week?
04:33Was it Thursday, where he's like, yeah, Watson's going to start.
04:36But, I mean, it was basically the same thing Ian Rappaport just said.
04:39No offense to Ian or Mike Garofalo.
04:43I dared for 15 minutes to kind of dream that he would be the starter.
04:49And if he's the starter, I will be happy, excited, but very surprised if Shador ends
04:56up being the starter.
04:56But I thought it was going to be Deshaun Watson, and I do think that this is probably,
05:00and I saw what Zach wrote over the weekend, probably the first step towards him being
05:04the starter week one.
05:06I'm sure Shador will get to start one of these other, one of these preseason games.
05:11Like, Watson's going to start on Saturday.
05:13Do we know that for a fact yet?
05:15No.
05:15Okay, I assume Deshaun Watson's going to start on Saturday.
05:19I imagine Shador...
05:20I wondered if they were going to treat this like a real game week, and therefore, name
05:24a starting quarterback today and go through, even though it's a Saturday and not a Sunday,
05:30but, you know, go through your traditional football week.
05:36Yeah, it's odd.
05:38Of course, anything's up for grabs.
05:39I mean, I could sit there and say, yeah, I think that they're going to start Watson on
05:41Saturday, and would anybody be surprised if they're going to go, no, Shador's going to
05:45start the game on Saturday.
05:46I guess it's always, it's just been, it's been a little bit bizarre.
05:50But if it still just confirms or reaffirms everything that I had thought before, and
05:55then they did make that trade, it's like, what is the point of me getting so downright
05:59nasty with anybody when this, it's not real.
06:04It's just not a real argument, unless one of them actually were to get a job and take off
06:09and play well, and then we can have something real.
06:11But this, this is just internet fog.
06:13Well, here's Todd from Saturday on kind of the plan for the quarterbacks.
06:17All right.
06:17Keep in mind, this was after he said that Shador would get the one reps on Saturday, but we
06:23knew later that he had already told Deshaun he was getting the one reps.
06:28So who knows if any of this has any truth to it as well.
06:30But here's Todd on the plan for quarterbacks, specifically in the preseason.
06:36That's still in mind.
06:37And we're still on that track, liking to have one start one game and then the other.
06:41Everything we do is subject to change.
06:43I mean, with every position we have on the field.
06:44We'll see how it goes today.
06:45We'll see how it goes Monday.
06:47We'll see how it goes Tuesday.
06:48And then we'll put our best foot forward next Saturday night.
06:51See, the only thing that is not, you said you're willing to say Deshaun's a starter before
06:57the break, correct?
06:58Is that what you had said, Tone?
07:00Yes.
07:00I'm making sure of it because it's been a minute.
07:02Uh, I'm not ready to go that far and it's not because I'm holding on to some, some hope,
07:07some false hope.
07:10But when you do say before practice that Shador is going to get, see, this is where I'm thrown
07:16off here.
07:17You say Shador is going to get the ones, right?
07:19Cause it's a, it's a rotation.
07:21But then Mary Kay's reporting that Deshaun knew even before this press conference that
07:25he was going to be, I can't guarantee for certain.
07:29And so you would think the logical reasoning for this would lead you to say, well, Deshaun's
07:34going to start, he's going to start this game on Saturday and he's probably going to be the
07:37starter week one.
07:38And we're past the install.
07:40Now we're actually working with the offense now.
07:43So I just said, we'll see how Saturday, Monday, Tuesday goes.
07:47Exactly.
07:47And then Saturday didn't even go the way that he said it was going to go.
07:50And there's going to, there's a lot of people and they're going to take people at their word
07:54here.
07:55So when, when Todd Munkin said that Shador is going to play or get the ones reps and then
08:00he doesn't some, his Shador's fan base feels that he's, they've been lied to Todd Munkin's
08:06name is mud with them as of right now.
08:08But if I'm going to go make crazy declarations or strong, not crazy, but strong declarations,
08:13I got to trust the Browns that they're going to back me up on something like that.
08:16Well, you got to remember common sense would tell me that that should be the way, but I
08:20don't know if they're going to operate with common sense.
08:21Who the hell knows?
08:22Well, you got to remember too, um, the, the Shador fan base is very sensitive to this stuff.
08:27And this isn't me throwing shade at them here.
08:30Like they feel like they were lied to about the draft stuff.
08:33They felt that they were lied to about the reasons that, uh, he fell in the first place
08:39in the draft and, and what he was doing in the pre-draft process and what the analysts
08:44thought of them and the GMs and why he slipped into the fifth round when he was at times thought
08:50to be maybe the number one quarterback in the draft.
08:52So they feel like every step of the way they've been lied to about Shador Sanders.
08:57And now they feel like, was this ever an open competition?
09:00Because Watson was so bad.
09:02I mean, Kenny, come on.
09:04It was, maybe we could say knock it off the rust.
09:07Like nobody thought that Watson was, was performing better until those two practices
09:12than Shador Sanders.
09:14Nobody.
09:14But if I'm just hearing, like, I go back to what was said a couple of Fridays ago when Nathan
09:19had said, you know, he's got to be better at getting him in and out of the huddle.
09:22What does that actually mean?
09:23That means being able to hear it and then give the information and then being able to
09:27get him out of the huddle and not having a stall based on what is being said in your
09:31head or in your ear about what plays to call because everybody needs their, needs their
09:36spot.
09:36And you're not going to find any of that evaluation on a tracker.
09:40No, you're not, you're not going to be able to see that really important tracker.
09:44You're not going to see that even really in a highlight.
09:46I know you see a frustrated Todd Munkin from time to time and you know, people lost their
09:52minds last week when Mary Kay came on and talked about the cadence and then they found
09:57video of, of Shador being able to get guys to jump off sides and they felt the media was
10:02not being honest when it came to who was getting the guys to jump off sides and who had the
10:07better cadence.
10:08And again, I just, I, I just don't care.
10:12And I don't think that I really don't think that real Browns fans care.
10:17Ask them.
10:18I think there's real Browns fans.
10:20I, I think the closest thing to all of this, do you want me to ask if they care?
10:24I want to hear.
10:26Then you ask.
10:27Do you care that Todd Munkin looks like he was either misleading or flat out lying or
10:34misspeaking?
10:35I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but definitely what he said was going to
10:38happen did not happen.
10:40Do you care?
10:402-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
10:44I, I think that real Browns fans, I think there are some real Browns fans out there who probably
10:49don't want to see Deshaun Watson anymore.
10:50Yes.
10:51Oh, I think that's the majority.
10:53And that's as close as they're going to go.
10:55But I think that they all know that, Hey, that yeah, you want the other guy to take the
10:59job, but he's got to take the job.
11:01And if he can't take the job, then I think all of us would understand like, Hey, the head coach
11:06has to make the decision.
11:07What's best for the football team.
11:09At least we should.
11:11And if he feels that the best decision for the football team is to play Deshaun Watson,
11:15if he ends up being right, then fine.
11:17He ends up being wrong.
11:18Then you have every single right to rip them up and down for it.
11:22But it's looking more and more like it would be Deshaun Watson.
11:252-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
11:27I want to know, but what Lima asked, do you care?
