00:45Well, yesterday was supposed to be a Shador day with the ones.
00:48And then all of a sudden, out of nowhere,
00:52Todd Munkin wanted to see Deshaun Watson with some personnel groupings.
00:59Now, as somebody who has been to every training camp practice,
01:04there was nothing different about the personnel groupings yesterday.

01:14He just wanted Deshaun Watson to take the one-team reps.

01:25We're going to need to get me through the next four weeks,

01:33Hand up, I was wrong.
01:34When we brought back the Sunday show after the Cleveland Browns pregame tailgate show
01:40that I was lucky enough to be on with Jake Volnick last preseason
01:45and into the regular season, I told you, Daryl,
01:48that there was no way that they would put that guy, Deshaun Watson,
01:54back on the field this season for the Cleveland Browns.
01:57I said they wouldn't do it.
01:58I said they had a whole long offseason to find a quarterback,
02:01whether it be via trade, via free agency, via draft,
02:04because there was that undercurrent of rumbling that they might seriously entertain
02:10putting Deshaun Watson at QB1 this coming season,
02:15despite finishing last season with Shador Sanders.
02:19Obviously, Todd Munkin gets hired as coach.
02:22There was a little bit more rumbling about Deshaun Watson into Indy at the combine.
02:26I came in here after the combine in Indianapolis,
02:30and I remember before we went on air, I got home that Friday from Cleveland.
02:34I didn't actually get to talk to you that Saturday about how my experience in Indianapolis was,
02:39but Sunday morning when I came in here, before we went on air,
02:44I looked you dead in your eyes, and I said, I need to drop the act.
02:49The Shador Sanders thing is over.
02:52Everybody in the league thinks that this kid can't play.
02:56That's exactly what I told you.
02:58I heard from so many people, everybody, that I talked to while I was out there,
03:03that the league just does not think highly of Shador Sanders,
03:07and a lot of people were saying that Todd Munkin hire was the worst thing
03:11that possibly could have happened to the kid.
03:14So we're going to jump into all of it this morning,
03:16what happened yesterday, what it means for this quarterback competition,
03:20because like you said, it's not formally over.
03:23They have not named a starter, but what happened yesterday marked the first real change of the tide
03:32in this quarterback competition, and it feels like Todd Munkin dropped the act.
03:37It really does, because this felt like different from last year.
03:41You said how last year was such a waste of time.
03:43This year's not bad.
03:44You know, they were genuinely and honestly rotating these two quarterbacks.
03:49I saw it with my own eyes.
03:51I saw Shador get those opportunities with the first team starting offense,
03:55something we were begging for him to get at this time last year when none of it made sense.
04:00It made more sense this year for the first week and a half,
04:04and then Todd Munkin dropped the act yesterday.
04:07And I think they knew going into this offseason that Deshaun Watson was going to be their quarterback.
04:13I think they knew when Munkin put pen to paper on that coaching contract
04:17that Deshaun Watson was going to start the season at quarterback.
04:21And before everybody loses their ever-living minds,
04:24that doesn't mean that Deshaun is going to finish the season at quarterback,
04:27because we've seen this movie plenty of time.
04:30There is a real world where the Browns have four quarterbacks in their building right now.
04:35Well, we might see a name start a game for the Browns that's not currently in that room.
04:40History would tell us that that's actually probably likely.
04:44So it's going to be a crazy morning, Daryl,
04:46because I know a lot of people are upset about what happened yesterday.
04:49A lot of Shador fans are upset about what happened yesterday.
04:52A lot of Browns fans are upset about what happened yesterday.
04:55And I think if you're upset, if you're confused, if you want to see Shador start,
05:00if you don't want to see Deshaun start,
05:02all of those feelings are warranted.
05:05Why?
05:06Because above all else, Daryl, the Browns have done this to themselves.
05:10They have made this bad when they made the worst trade in the history of professional sports
05:15back in 2022, and my friend, they're about to lay in it.

05:21There's no question about it.
05:22And we're going to get into all of it this morning,
05:26including fan reaction, because I think that we have jobs because of the passions of you
05:35as fans.
05:37I have tremendous respect for that.
05:41Shador fans are just on a different level.
05:45And I think we need to have an honest conversation about that.
05:49This kid is not infallible.
05:54And a criticism of Shador does not make you a hater.
06:01We'll get into it a little later in the show,
06:04but I do want to have that conversation this morning.
06:09The Browns have not sabotaged Shador.
06:12And look, he's made tremendous progress.
06:16He is a much better NFL quarterback today
06:21than the first day he walked into those doors over at 76 LeGrosa Boulevard in Berea.

06:29But he's not there yet.

06:34I had been very quietly trying to explain to you folks
06:42about everything Shador is having to do
06:45that he's never had to do before.

06:54that he's had to learn
06:56not once, but twice.
06:58Because he had to forget everything he learned last year

07:08So, that's really hard to do for a young player.
07:11And that's why I picked those cuts that I used in the open

07:24without actually coming out and saying it,
07:27they're explaining to you
07:29what they're looking for from the quarterback.
07:32Like, when Todd Munkin is sitting there talking,
07:35or standing there, I should say.
07:36He's not sitting down.
07:38When he's standing there talking about
07:40Shador Sanders learning to fight to live another day
07:44by throwing a ball away
07:46and not taking a negative play
07:49like a sack or something else, right?
07:51An interception.
07:52Turnover.
07:53That that's a win.
07:56Like, to us, that's a little thing.

08:00That's what you're supposed to do as a quarterback.
08:03But for Shador Sanders,
08:05that culturally for him as a quarterback,
08:09like, that's life-changing to him
08:11in how he thinks,
08:13in how he operates,
08:15and the habits he's breaking.

08:18he doesn't retreat from the line of scrimmage
08:20like he used to do, okay?

08:23he goes to his left,
08:24he goes to his right.

08:38Deshaun Watson has lit it up this camp.

08:55actively rooting for the contrary of this outcome.

09:19to point at Kevin Stefanski

09:21plenty of questionable
09:23quarterback decisions
09:24during his six years
09:25coaching the Browns
09:26and say,
09:26you know what?
09:27I've heard enough
09:29of this guy

09:30it was easy to make
09:32Kevin the scapegoat
09:33last year
09:34from that standpoint.
09:36And they did.
09:36He got fired.
09:37But now that Todd's doing it
09:39and I'm already starting
09:40to see people
09:41turn on Todd about this.

09:45like, maybe we don't turn on
09:46on Coach Munkin
09:48because he really is
09:50just the second coach
09:51that's saying out loud
09:52what the first coach
09:53was saying last year
09:54and nobody really wanted
09:55to listen to the first coach
