00:00Hi there. There remains no meaningful rain in the south of the UK through at least the next week.
00:05But in the north it's very different and actually it's been a wet start to the weekend in the northwest
00:10of Scotland.
00:11This radar loop from this morning just shows how wet it's been, particularly for the highlands, the Hebrides and the
00:16Isle of Skye
00:17could perhaps see as much as 100 millimetres of rain falling by the time we get to this time tomorrow.
00:22Now that's associated with a slow moving cold front that will just drift its way southeastwards
00:27across some northern parts of the UK into Sunday and Monday.
00:30But then high pressure takes over once again across many parts of the UK
00:34and we are going to see those temperatures once again lift, particularly across England and Wales
00:38where we're likely to see temperatures potentially in the mid-30s by Wednesday and Thursday.
00:44So another hot spell of weather is on the way for some of us.
00:47Out there this afternoon though, England and Wales, it's fine.
00:50There is some high level cloud around at times so it's not necessarily blue skies for all of us
00:55but it will be bright and there will be some spells of hazy sunshine.
00:57Just a small chance of one or two light showers drifting up from the south across particularly southwest England and
01:04Wales
01:05but these will barely dampen the ground if indeed you even see one.
01:08Further north and west though, across Scotland and Northern Ireland, a very different story here, breezier.
01:13The wind's easing a tad across the very far northwest compared to this morning
01:16but still gusts into the low 40s of miles per hour
01:19and some pretty persistent and heavy rain for the highlands and the islands.
01:23Here, quite disappointingly cool, temperatures 19 or 20 degrees through the central belt of Scotland and Northern Ireland
01:29but no better than 14 or 15 Celsius where it's raining.
01:33Another very warm day though for most of England and Wales.
01:35Temperatures here into the mid-20s widely, possibly 29, even 30 degrees close to the southeast of England.
01:43So a warm and pleasant evening to come for most of England and Wales.
01:46Just a small chance of a very brief light shower.
01:49The band of rain though further north and west will start to make its way slowly southeast
01:54and by the morning it might be just clipping into parts of Northern England
01:57and certainly a pretty wet night for southern Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:02Following that, across the northwest of Scotland, clearer skies here, winds easing down and just one or two showers.
02:07And wherever you are tonight it will be a pretty mild picture.
02:10Not as chilly as it was across some southern parts of Wales last night
02:13where we saw temperatures fall as low as two degrees in the coldest spots.
02:17Temperatures for tonight in the towns and cities at least holding up in the teens Celsius.
02:23Now there may be one or two mist and fog patches across East Anglia to begin the day on Sunday
02:27but otherwise, once again, southern areas holding on to dry conditions, generally speaking.
02:32A lot of sunshine around too and those temperatures are really going to rapidly climb in that strong August sunshine.
02:37So a hotter day to come here.
02:39For the north and west though, much fresher.
02:41That band of rain will disintegrate into just a few showers really by the afternoon.
02:46So after a wet morning for Northern Ireland and Northern England,
02:49by the afternoon just a few spots of rain here and there.
02:51Now a much brighter day to come for northwest Scotland compared to on Saturday.
02:56Sunny spells here, still quite breezy and just one or two showers.
02:59But temperatures generally about around where they should be for the time of year.
03:0316 to 20 degrees across Scotland, Northern Ireland and most of Northern England too.
03:08But just notice how much hotter it is to the south of that weather front.
03:11And actually, tomorrow will be a good few degrees hotter in the south.
03:16Perhaps five degrees higher than today in terms of maximum temperatures across parts of East Anglia and the southeast.
03:21As I say, 32 Celsius in London, perhaps locally 33 degrees.
03:25And a warmer day also for northwest Scotland, courtesy of more aware sunshine.
03:29Otherwise, the blue colours indicate that some parts of Northern Ireland and Northern England in particular
03:33will have a much cooler day tomorrow compared to today.
03:37And as we go into Sunday evening, that band of cloud and showery rain makes a little bit more progress
03:43southwards.
03:44Perhaps as far south as the Midlands, maybe Norfolk as well.
03:46But by this point, just the odd shower.
03:48Otherwise, a mostly dry night to come once again as we go into Monday.
03:52And the outlook is for next week to be settled, high pressure dominating, increasing amounts of very strong August sunshine.
03:59And with that, we are likely to see temperatures on the rise once again too.
04:03The peak of the heat once again across England and Wales, and especially the south and southeast,
04:08where we are likely to see temperatures getting to around the mid-30s by Wednesday and Thursday.
04:13So another spell of very hot weather on the way, as well as that,
04:16humidities will also start to rise as we go towards Wednesday and Thursday too.
