00:00The transitory camps are spaces for collaborative work among different sectors of society toward a common goal.
00:07Let's take a look at the story of the Luis Hurtado camp in El Junquito from our colleague Belén de
00:12los Santos.
00:15We arrived at the Luis Hurtado school in El Junquito.
00:18After the earthquakes, it opened its doors like so many other places to receive those most affected.
00:24A new space for collaboration was born.
00:31With tears in our eyes, we lived through that situation, our double earthquake.
00:35Our school, the educational institution, opened its doors to all those Venezuelan families who went through such a tragic situation,
00:43and we welcomed them as one big family.
00:50Coordinated by the Ministry of Communes, this space proposed a grassroots organization.
00:55Everyone involved, both coordinators and those affected, would organize themselves into working committees created through assemblies.
01:05An assembly where people identify with the committee they want to join.
01:08For example, I identified with the task of organizing things, so I chose to join the warehouse team.
01:17This is how it became possible to support more than 300 people at a time of their greatest need, through
01:24everyone's collaboration for the benefit of all.
01:32In the kitchen, in cleaning, both women and men, in the surrounding areas, psychologists from the ministry, as well as
01:39professionals among those affected, have also come together to work in consensus and in perfect unity between the institution and
01:45the people.
01:49Efren is a boxing coach.
01:51Efren is a boxing coach. He lived in the Hugo Chavez housing complex in Catia la Mar, where he also
01:55taught boxing to children from the community.
01:58Today, he is staying at the El Junquito transitory camp and has proposed resuming his classes with the children living
02:06there.
02:07I started training the children here every day from 3,000 to 4,000. Later on, once they get used
02:14to the discipline, I'll train them for two hours.
02:17The collective mindset is present in every detail. The donations team, for example, set up this community shop with the
02:25goal of improving the experience of those who need to choose new clothing in this context.
02:31We made a collective decision that people shouldn't have to pick clothes off the floor or out of bags. Instead,
02:37as you can see, we are finishing the setup of this little shop so people can choose their clothes according
02:42to their taste, their preferred color, their size and feel comfortable. That's what we want.
02:49Everyone involved agrees. The key has been working together from the ground up.
02:55We have learned to become more and more like one person working as a team. We have all been working
03:00together.
03:03It is no longer the institution and the people affected. Now we are all here for the same purpose, to
03:08work together so that people feel well.
03:12And that is what we want today, for all young people and all older people to give support to those
03:17who need it, as the true Venezuelans that we are.
