00:01France's Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, on a visit to Morocco, said the two countries are entering a new phase in
00:07their relationship.
00:08He said both were seeking to scale up their bilateral relations after renewed momentum in 2024, following years of tensions.
00:16With its influence in North Africa and the Sahel under pressure, Paris hopes to cement the rapprochement during Lecornu's two
00:22-day visit to Rabat.
00:24But as his visit started, a consortium of international media published new allegations on the extent to which Morocco used
00:31Israeli spyware to spy on several French ministers.
00:34The investigation alleges that Rabat used software, including Pegasus, to target journalists, human rights defenders, as well as politicians from
00:42France and Spain.
00:44Morocco has long denied using the spyware to target critics at home or abroad.
00:48Following publication of the latest allegations on Thursday, a press briefing between the two heads of government was scaled back
00:54to simple statements.
00:56But Lecornu hailed the 15th high-level meeting between the two countries, a dialogue that's not convened since 2019, as
01:03a pivotal moment,
01:05citing their converging interests, notably on issues of security and the fight against terrorism.
