00:00In South Sudan, reaching families displaced by violence often begins with a treacherous journey.
00:06In western Nigeria, the only road linking Yampio to Greater Mundry becomes nearly impassable during the rainy seasons.
00:13For traders, humanitarians, local communities and peacekeepers, every journey is uncertain.
00:19Yet this road remains a vital lifeline, connecting thousands of people to food, healthcare and humanitarian assistance.
00:24The roads are very bad, very poor, and most of the time we are not able to get to all
00:30these remote areas because of the road conditions.
00:33But we continue to do our best.
00:36The issue of the cattle herders, conflict with the farmers, as well as the problems that are confronting the IDPs
00:46in all these areas
00:48are one of the major issues that pushes us to reach out and go to these places to address these
00:55problems.
00:56For these peacekeepers, it is essential that they reach their destination.
01:03The road condition determines whether food reaches markets, patients reach health facilities,
01:08and humanitarian aid reaches families in need.
01:11We suffered a lot on this road.
01:14We bring goods from Juba and sometimes we spend four days on the road.
01:18Many of the items spoil before we arrive.
01:21We are thankful to God that help came because we didn't know whether we would get out of here.
01:26Beyond assessing humanitarian needs, peacekeepers are working with the local authorities and communities
01:31to prevent further violence and support peaceful coexistence for thousands of displaced families.
01:36The greatest challenge is rebuilding lives shattered by violence.
01:41The prime objective is to ensure that we prevent conflict, localize conflict,
01:48not allowing it to blossom into something wider.
01:51So we work collaboratively with the government and so many other communities
01:57in order to bring them together, to start dialoguing, to start addressing the conflict,
02:02because peace is very important.
02:05For the blue helmets, reaching these vulnerable communities is essential to reassuring them
02:11they are neither alone nor forgotten.
