00:00Typhoon Bavi is still offshore, but approaching the islands here of southern Okinawa.
00:06This is in Ishigaki, and we are bracing for a direct impact from a now Category 2 Typhoon Bavi.
00:15And it has maximum sustained winds of 85 knots.
00:17It also has a central pressure of about 951 millibars.
00:21It is starting to erode the western edge of the eye just a little bit, and it has jogged a
00:26little northwest.
00:27But I think that once it wraps that convection around the north side of it, it could wobble back to
00:32the west.
00:32And that would make a direct hit happen here.
00:36But it is a very compact core, a large cyclone, but it has a boat of dry air on the
00:41inside.
00:42And you can see this incredible engineering here.
00:45This is preventing the wave action from coming in here.
00:48So this staggered barricades out here.
00:50They don't prevent the storm surge, which ramped up during high tide out here.
00:54But they do prevent the wave action on top of it.
00:57But we think that once the eye comes ashore, there's definitely a chance of a storm surge.
01:02Probably a five- to six-foot storm surge here over parts of the island, especially those concave bays.
01:08And we could have winds gusting over 90 miles an hour here as the inner core passes very close in
01:13the next couple of hours.
01:15But here on Ishigaki, there are some power outages.
01:18The main town has plenty of power.
01:20And the people here definitely know how to handle these typhoons.
01:24This area here gets more typhoons than many places anywhere in the world.
01:28And it looks like there's a train of typhoons coming up over the next few weeks.
01:32So definitely the worst is still to come.
01:34The main inner core has not yet arrived.
01:36But we are awaiting the arrival here of Typhoon Bobby, which has been upgraded to 85 knot maximum sustained winds.
01:43We need a chance to keep down as possible to the north.
01:43Where can we get to the north?
01:43And we are getting to the north.
01:43We've got about the north.
01:43Alls are up to here.
