00:00Hello, good morning. Some places are entering their sixth or seventh day of an official heat wave with temperatures having
00:07risen gradually through the week.
00:09But those temperatures expected to peak in many places today and tomorrow before a very slow cooling trend begins over
00:19the weekend and carries on into next week,
00:21emphasising the word slow. Still a number of hot days ahead for many.
00:26In fact, it's turning hotter for northern parts of the country because high pressure, which has dominated proceedings across the
00:32south, well, that's pushing north.
00:33But it's not all plain sailing for northern Scotland. A trapped weather front will linger and jet stream will move
00:39in and that's going to contort slightly and cause the air to rise at upper levels.
00:45So even though we've got high pressure at the surface, some of that rising air will lead to thundery outbreaks
00:50of rain later in the day to day.
00:52We start the day with outbreaks of rain for the north and northwest of Scotland, some persistent and at times
00:56heavy outbreaks.
00:57Now further south, plenty of sunny skies. Northern Ireland, central and southern Scotland seeing beautiful blue skies through the day.
01:04England and Wales, yet another very warm start. Temperatures rising quickly and the heat continuing to build.
01:10Likely to see temperatures a degree or so higher compared with Thursday.
01:14So we're talking about widely across England and Wales, low to mid-30s, 35, possibly 36 Celsius, the highest temperature
01:23somewhere around central southern England through the Midlands into east Wales.
01:28But on the immediate coast of eastern England, a fresher feel because this emerging easterly breeze and certainly a fresher
01:36feel for southeast Scotland compared with southwest Scotland,
01:39where temperatures are reaching the mid-20s, Northern Ireland mid-20s. We've got this thundery rain developing across the north
01:45of Scotland.
01:46Some really quite lively downpours expected on Friday night into the start of Saturday could cause some issues.
01:52It's going to persist throughout much of the night. You can see the angry colours there on the rainfall forecast.
01:58But that really is the extent of the rainfall because elsewhere it's dry overnight.
02:02We've got low cloud creeping in from the North Sea to affect eastern parts of England, much as Scotland, and
02:08some cloud patches over Northern Ireland.
02:10Wales, southwest England, clear spells, but a warm night. In fact, the highest temperatures overnight will be across west Wales,
02:16southwest England.
02:17Expect to stay up at 19, 20, 21 Celsius. Wherever you are, it's a stuffy night for sleeping.
02:25Not as oppressive, though, as the late June heatwave.
02:28Now, the low cloud that begins things in the east of England will retreat back to beaches, but that will
02:33have an impact on how much temperatures rise through the morning.
02:35So, less hot and with a strengthening easy breeze, certainly a cooler feel for eastern counties of England compared with
02:43Friday.
02:44The heat then shifts west and northwest Western Scotland, Northern Ireland, seeing temperatures into the mid or even high 20s.
02:51But, temperatures suppressed for the east and north of Scotland.
02:55We've got the thundery rain first thing in the north, drifting south, petering away, but still some lively showers into
03:00the southeast of Scotland, northeast England by the afternoon.
03:03An extensive cloud associated with that.
03:06We'll have this notable breeze coming in from the North Sea across England and Wales, so that's going to limit
03:11temperatures around coastal areas.
03:12And, yeah, if you're heading to the beach, watch out for that breeze, because it can cause issues at this
03:17time of year.
03:18If it's hot and sunny, people head to the beach, get on paddle boards, but watch out for that wind
03:22that will be blowing offshore.
03:2433 to 35 Celsius possible across some western parts of England into east Wales, so another hot day away from
03:33that east coast.
03:34And, the outbreaks of rain across Scotland do ease early next week, and plenty of sunshine returns from Sunday into
03:41Monday and Tuesday for Scotland,
03:43whilst an increasing chance of thundery showers emerges towards the southwest.
03:48And, we've got that cooling trend through next week as well.
