00:00Hi there, welcome to the latest update from the Met Office. Whilst southern parts of the
00:05UK have had several days of heatwave conditions, northern areas haven't experienced anything
00:11approaching a heatwave just yet. With a lot of cloud, some outbreaks of rain because we've
00:15had weather fronts coming in over the top of an area of high pressure. However, that
00:20high will migrate north gradually over the next few days. That's going to spread the
00:25dry and bright weather from southern parts of the UK into northern England, Northern
00:30Ireland and Scotland. Some weather fronts still close to the northwest of Scotland, so cloudier
00:36here with a few outbreaks of mostly light rain, widely dry and bright and increasingly warm
00:43elsewhere. We start the day with cloud for Northern Ireland, Scotland, many parts of Northern
00:47England, but watch how that cloud thins and breaks into the afternoon. Widespread sunny skies
00:52developing through Northern Ireland, Northern England, central and eastern Scotland, just
00:56that lingering cloud there for the north and west of Scotland. Some outbreaks of light
01:01rain but not as persistent or as heavy as we've seen so far this week. Unbroken blue skies meanwhile
01:06for the southern half of the UK. Another hot day to come with widely 30 to 32 Celsius and
01:13in some spots the potential for 33 or 34 Celsius, most likely this area of central England. Further
01:22north, it's a much warmer day for Northern England, southern and central Scotland, Northern Ireland
01:26compared with the recent weather, mid to high 20s in places. So things warming up or at least
01:33the heat expanding northwards over the next few days, restricting cloud and any outbreaks
01:40of rain to the far north and northwest of Scotland. It'll continue to be grey and damp
01:44here going into Wednesday night and Thursday, but elsewhere a lot of clear skies, just some patchy
01:50low clouded fog around western parts and with the clear skies and the warm air in place, temperatures
01:56staying at the high teens, perhaps 20 Celsius in places. That's a few degrees down compared
02:03with the June heatwave which of course saw really quite oppressive nights and high humidities.
02:09This heatwave, not as hot, not as humid, nights not quite as unbearable but still a very notable
02:17heatwave for the south and increasingly further north into Northern England and Southern Scotland
02:21and Northern Ireland. That's where temperatures on Thursday will reach the mid 20s, high 20s
02:27across parts of Northern England, parts of North and West Wales and then across this central
02:31swathe of the UK we're likely to see 33, 34 Celsius fairly widely and yet another very warm
02:39if not hot day for many of us. The north and northwest of Scotland always cooler with a bit
02:44more cloud and those outbreaks of light rain continuing.
02:47Into the weekend, even the northwest of Scotland will see clearer skies. High pressure moves further
02:53and further north. That will allow a cooling effect around eastern coasts. I'll cover that
02:57in a great detail in this week's Met Office Deep Dive which you can find on our YouTube channel.
