00:00why is it different now we keep on this is insanity we keep on doing the same thing over
00:06and over again getting the same result over and over again we expanded the number of teams that
00:12made this tournament 48 right we have team usa getting every break you could ever ask for right
00:18from the schedule to the home field to the president getting involved to rescind a red card
00:25like every break and so i do understand the idea that team usa went from a little engine that could
00:33a feel-good story to everybody singing country roads together to being hated by the world
00:40because what happened with balagun's red card i get that okay that definitely changed the tone
00:47around team usa it didn't change the outcome of the game team usa didn't play poorly because the
00:56white house got involved okay i don't buy this that like they had all this momentum and then the white
01:02house got involved and that stopped all the momentum like okay like spare me with this stuff like i just
01:07don't it doesn't make any sense and look if you don't think the world hates us the world hates us
01:14okay like the world straight up hates us like they hate the americans for what happened overturned this
01:23did it galvanize the belgian team yes did it galvanize the belgian fans yes did it matter for the game
01:33last night no sure it may it might have tasted a bit a bit sweeter to beat the americans in
01:39seattle last
01:40night it may have felt better to after what happened before the match and how angry the belgians
01:46were but did the belgians play harder because of it no did they get better opportunities because of it
01:54no they were just a better team i'm sorry i can't watch that game and think at any moment that
02:00i think
02:00the team usa was better or the team usa even deserved to be in the same conversation like they weren't
02:07going
02:07any farther even if they'd beaten belgium spain would have taken us apart that would have been ugly
02:12more ugly than four to one so it's just where we are with this sport and where i think we
02:18will always
02:19be with this sport it doesn't matter how much how many thumbs are on the scale for the united states
02:26we don't take this sport seriously we just don't our best athletes play basketball football and baseball
02:34those are the three sports that we go and send our best athletes after that depending upon where you
02:40are being raised hockey comes into play if you're in the northeast or if you're in minnesota or you're
02:46you're within you know wisconsin or north dakota okay hockey you start playing hockey that could be part of
02:52it but at no point does soccer come into that conversation unless your parents are from a country in which
03:00soccer is really high or you have some type of history where you were raised in a different
03:06country and then you come over to america and you have dual citizenship or you've got something that
03:11lets you play for team usa but we don't have like an austin matthews for soccer okay there's nobody
03:18that's going to play in phoenix who's going to grow up in phoenix dreaming about being an american
03:23and an american soccer player and then go on to be a messy go on to be an mbappe of
03:29the great of the
03:30greats right why because that kid if he's a superstar athlete most likely is playing a different sport
03:37we play sports with our hands that's american like no one wants to talk about this but american sports
03:44what do we do we are a hand eye type of culture we are not hand feet we use our
03:50feet to run but our
03:51hands in our way that's what every sport hockey great hands basketball great hands football great
03:57hands right that's what we do we don't play with our feet for sport we just don't and so the
04:05dad and
04:06you know father and son moment what do we do we go play catch with a football we go play
04:11catch with a
04:12baseball we don't go kick a soccer ball around like other countries they have academies where they take
04:18kids itty bitty kids who are very very young they take these kids and they develop them they work on
04:24them they get them to be the best argentina just had a huge espn just had a huge story about
04:31how corrupt
04:31the argentinian system is where you've got some really bad actors who are doing some nasty stuff to
04:38kids as they're in this very some would say squalor type of environment you know some you know not
04:47sanitary places you want children being raised because they they show some level of talent right
04:53they show some level of gift for the sport they've got some you know they're the force is strong with
05:01them okay and so they get they become a pad one and they get to be developed and they get
05:05sent to a
05:06different academy to go develop we don't do that in this country we don't send kids away to go play
05:11soccer and have you know 5 000 kids and we just try to get one or two on the national
05:17team we don't do
05:18that so the rest of the world plays a different sport than we play and that's just something we have
05:26to put
05:26our minds around and deal with until we want to put a real thought not a fandom not an outlaw
05:34group
05:35not a hundred thousand fans we're talking millions of people who want the sport of soccer to become
05:42successful and for us to go and potentially have a run in a world cup but if we can't do
05:49it when
05:49everything is set up the way that was set up for us it's a big big big problem question doubt
05:57that
05:57i've got in my mind that team usa will ever get to the top of the mountain in that sport
