Stephen Dale and Tyler Phythian have been jailed after Daniel Gardner died in a fire at his Highters Heath flat. The court heard petrol was bought before the blaze was started outside the property.

00:00A fatal fire at a flat in Heiter's Heath began with a late night journey to buy petrol.
00:07Daniel Gardner was inside his home on Saxon's Way when fuel was poured at the entrance and set alight, trapping
00:14him as flames spread.
00:16Police said Stephen Dale had become angry about Mr Gardner's contact with his former partner, who was the mother of
00:23his children.
00:25Officers said Dale saw Mr Gardner as a significant problem, even though the pair remained in touch over family matters.
00:33The court heard Dale persuade his neighbour and friend, Tyler Pythian, to travel by taxi to a nearby petrol station
00:41on Shirley High Street.
00:43They filled a container, returned by taxi to Heiter's Heath, then walked towards Mr Gardner's flat after midnight.
00:51CCTV captured a large flash as fire took hold.
00:56The two men were seen running away, with Pythian carrying the petrol can and one of Dale's feet on fire.
01:02A neighbour's front door outside also caught fire as the blaze intensified.
01:08Mr Gardner, who was 36, could not escape and sadly died.
01:13Dale, aged 47, was jailed for manslaughter and arson with intent.
01:18Pythian, aged 19, received four years for arson with intent.
01:23Detectives called it a cowardly attack on a man at home.
