00:03Your Excellency, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of India,
00:14and distinguished members of the Prime Minister's delegation.
00:23Members of the Indonesian government attending, and the national leaders who are here,
00:35members of the Indian community in Indonesia, ladies and gentlemen, namaskar.
00:55It is a great pleasure to be with all of you this evening.
01:04Once again, let me extend a very warm welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his visit to Indonesia.
01:16I had the honor of being the chief guest of honor on the Republic Day celebration, January 26, 2025.
01:39I was just inaugurated as President of Indonesia only three months before, October 20.
01:52And I was greatly honored to be the chief guest because India's first Republic Day celebration was in 1950,
02:10and the chief guest at that time was the first President of Indonesia, President Soekarno.
02:27So, destiny maybe made me the eighth President of the Republic of Indonesia.
02:43As you know, eight is my lucky number.
02:53And actually, I keep finding the number eight all through my career.
03:05I had wanted to be the seventh President, but destiny made me the eighth.
03:13So, it's okay.
03:21Thank you for inviting me here.
03:24Just before I made my state visit to India, I had a, what is called a genome sequencing test.
03:41I tested my DNA.
03:48No, no, this is true, you know.
04:03And that's why I think every time I hear some music, especially Indian music, I find my body moving.
04:26Today, at the state banquet in our palace, you know, you know, state banquet, very formal.
04:34Well, but I cannot help my ministers, my generals, they all like to dance, they all like to sing.
04:48Maybe most of them have Indian DNA also.
04:57No, it's true.
04:59Most of my ministers, they sing Indian songs very well.
05:05I see there's a band tonight.
05:12So, we had a very good meeting today, and it is true.
05:19We are two of the largest democracies in the world.
05:28No, no, no, I think, yeah, two out of the three largest democracies in the world.
05:37And democracies is not an easy path, not an easy system.
05:51It's not easy.
05:53Sometimes it's very messy.
05:55But I think we are agreed that it's the best system for justice, for hope, for inclusiveness.
06:10And there are dangers in democracy.
06:16There are pitfalls.
06:19There are obstacles.
06:21There are people who want to hijack democracy.
06:30But we cannot surrender.
06:36We must believe in democracy, and we must strive to maintain democracy.
06:45It's the best way of all the systems that we have tried, that human civilization have tried.
06:56So, I'm very happy today to see a young Indonesian member of our election commission.
07:08Yes?
07:09And we are very closely...
07:15...learning from the Indian Election Commission.
07:23And...
07:28Very frankly, we see India, a country of 1.4 billion people,
07:38many, many, many ethnic groups, like us, many different regional languages.
07:46But managing so many years of peaceful transition of government in many states.
08:03And in the Union of India itself, this is a remarkable achievement.
08:09And Indonesia, I myself also study this and follow the remarkable achievements of India.
08:24In fact, I don't want to be involved in domestic Indian politics.
08:39But I want to admit one thing, and my close associates and colleagues will testify that I am an admirer,
08:52a great admirer, a great admirer of Narendra, Modiji.
09:06This is not nice words, you know, because I'm not a professional politician.
09:14The proof that I am not a professional politician is, I took part in five general elections, I lost four
09:23times.
09:30But I'm an admirer, and when I, even before I became president, I studied the policies of your prime minister.
09:53And because there are no copyright, you know, I copied many of his policies.
10:12But Prime Minister Modi graciously allowed me to copy his policies, so I cannot be sued in any court.
10:25But, ladies and gentlemen, it's a very good speech already made here, but I don't think you want me to
10:37read this all.
10:40It's very good.
10:43The important thing is Indonesians must learn from the experience
10:55We actually, our civilization, our culture, many hundreds of years, strongly influenced by Indian civilization.
11:14Our language, I would say, Minister of Culture, our language, what, 50% from Sanskrit?
11:31Many of our names are Sanskrit names.
11:36And therefore, there is this closeness, and we welcome more close cooperation.
11:49And once again, ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much for inviting me to join you tonight.
12:03I think I will conclude my short speech.
12:09The danger of any political leader is if he's given a podium and a microphone, he doesn't want to step
12:17down.
12:20So once again, I'm not interfering in Indian domestic politics, but I'm personal admirer of Sri Narendra Modi ji.
12:33Thank you.
12:37Thank you very much, Your Excellency, for those heartwarming words.
12:41Thank you very much.
12:44Thank you very much.
12:46Thank you very much.
12:53Terima kasih.
