01:19And on this edition, we're looking back at the very best of the game, Triple H.
01:24In 1995, the WWE Universe was introduced to the posh and proper Hunter Hurst Helmsley.
01:32The Connecticut Blue Blood would eventually morph into the brash and dangerous superstar we've come to know.

01:42Aligning himself with his best friend Shawn Michaels,
01:45the two would form one of the greatest factions of all time.
01:47We are Degeneration X, you make the rules, and we will break them!
01:53But after a severe back injury would keep the Heartbreak Kid away from competition,
01:58it was time for Triple H to take the reins.
02:03Triple H of DX is gonna make a major announcement here tonight.
02:08At that time, Degeneration X was the biggest faction in WWE,
02:11and it was hard to picture them without Shawn Michaels.
02:14This is the genesis of Degeneration X.
02:21There were conversations with me about going forward with DX from there.
02:26When you start an army, you look to your friends.
02:30Well, look who's back!
02:32Hunter called me.
02:33He wanted to keep doing a DX thing.
02:35I was just happy it turned out as good as it did.
02:37One of my best friends in my entire life, Triple H.
02:41And he says, DX needs your help.
02:44So now you have Triple H, Chyna, and X-Pac.
02:49That's not all for that night, though.
02:50The New Age Outlaws have a tag match against Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie.
02:54And all of a sudden, DX shows up and interferes.
02:58That's DX! DX is here!
03:00And then we all got on all four corners of the cage after that.
03:04They're stronger than ever!
03:06There they were.
03:07Triple H is DX.
03:09Break it down!

03:14That renewed DX very quickly went from a place of approaching everything from an angry heel standpoint to fans were
03:22mobbing us.
03:24The fans loved it.

03:31In 2001, Triple H was at the top of his game.
03:35When you play the game, you will lose.
03:40Engulfed in a heated rivalry with the Texas Rattlesnake Stone Cold Steve Austin, these two would stop at nothing to
03:46take the other out.
03:46Triple H, right here in this ring in front of the world.
03:51I'm gonna beat your ass.
03:54This situation became so tumultuous that it required an entirely new type of match just to settle the score.
04:00A three stages of hell match.
04:05Three falls of hell for Austin in the game.
04:09Is Austin ready to play the game?

04:12The regular match, it turned into a street fight, it turned into a cage match.
04:16That was the first time that's been done.
04:18This whole issue built on nothing but pure hatred.
04:22To put those two together created a match of just magic.
04:27Stone Cold has beaten the game in the first fall!
04:30That was really cool because it's not just one stipulation, it's three of them.
04:34Now we're in a street fight phase.

04:38There's a certain magic that happened with me and Austin.
04:40Professionally a great part of my career.
04:44The stretch hammer run it off to space!

04:48And that's the second five-guard ball!
04:50And now we're going to the third ball!
04:53What are these guys gonna do?
04:55See what they're capable of.
04:56You've seen what they've done to each other already!
04:57The game punishing Stone Cold Steve Austin.

05:04I think we went like 45 minutes.
05:06This is a marathon.
05:08Triple H has got the stretch hammer off to the two-by-four.
05:10They both scored! They both hit each other!
05:13And the game caught them back on Austin!
05:16Austin, wait a minute! Triple H has done it!
05:19Triple H won two out of three.
05:21This was a huge victory for Triple H.
05:26In 2015, Triple H and his wife Stephanie McMahon ruled the WWE with an iron fist as the authority.

05:39However, his subjects wouldn't take kindly to such a merciless ruler.

05:46And the semi-retired King of Kings would suffer a vicious attack at the hands of Roman Reigns.

05:53Oh, my God! He disappeared! Triple H through the floor!
05:56But as punishment for his actions, Reigns was forced to defend his WWE Championship in the number one spot of
06:02the Royal Rumble.
06:03It's one versus all.
06:05Outlasting many competitors, Roman Reigns looked to be on the verge of retaining his title.
06:10Roman Reigns is the only one standing in this match right now!
06:14Until he learned why you should never put your hands on the boss.
06:21Number 30 on his way!

06:35At this point in his career, Triple H really wasn't wrestling that often.
06:38For him to come out of the Royal Rumble, this was a huge surprise.
06:42We have not seen Triple H since Roman Reigns sent him to the hospital over a month ago.

06:49He's not afraid to do whatever it takes to keep himself at the top.
06:54Roman Reigns eliminated!
06:57We are guaranteed to have a new champion.
07:00And it's gonna be Triple H or Dean Ambrose.

07:10Triple H is a 14-time WWE Champion!
07:14To be able to be in there with Triple H, you lose to learn how to win, you know what

07:18So you have to go through some kind of struggle, some kind of adversity.
07:21What a great night for the Authority.
07:25The Rumble, it was incredible.
07:27It was everything it needed to be.
07:32When a king has lust for power, the best way to keep it is to surround yourself with trusted allies.

07:47Triple H captured the World Heavyweight Championship once again, taking his rightful place atop the WWE Kingdom.

08:00In February of 2003, the King of Kings introduced the WWE Universe to his new Royal Council.

08:14The World Heavyweight Champion Triple H, and one of these other guys, Batista, and Claire and Orton.

08:20And what you see in this ring before you is the greatest example of evolution you will ever see.
08:26Evolution was sort of that next step in careers.

08:36Hunter was the first guy to see something special in me.

08:45That's a huge part of what made me who I am.
08:50Triple H cutting that promo and forming Evolution was a monumental moment in his career.

09:26I was only as good as I was because of Hunter.

09:43One thing that eluded him his whole career.

09:47And he would do nearly anything to get his shot.

10:35That night was pretty much the most important thing in my life at that point.

11:05With the help of his mentor Triple H, Randy Orton evolved from a champion to a vicious viper
11:10that gained a lust for the spotlight.
11:12In 2009, Orton won the Royal Rumble and chose to face his former ally Triple H for the WWE Championship
11:18at WrestleMania 25.
11:21Triple H, I have taken everything from you.
11:27Except the WWE title.
11:31All bets were off, but the game decided to make a house call.
11:38Triple H, I gave you too much credit.

12:27But it was also the beginning of a whole new game.

12:40Cactus Jack, the most sadistic wrestler of all time,
12:43was hell-bent on capturing the prize that Triple H held so dearly.

14:31On an episode of Sunday Night Heat in 1999, Triple H sat down with Jim Ross to get something heavy
14:36off his chest
14:37and make an emphatic statement to the WWE Universe, reminding them of who he was.
14:45What, you want me to shoot with this interview? I'm gonna shoot with it.
14:48I'm gonna tell you how I feel, whether you like it or not.
14:51The interview with Jim Ross, that's a very real interview.
14:56Everything that came out of Hunter's mouth was the truth.
15:00I don't need anybody else, JR.
15:03This is about me.
15:05I don't need to be in a clique anymore.
15:07I don't need to be in DX anymore.
15:09It's about me reaching my goals.
15:11There's moments in time where you can just sit down with somebody and be real,
15:15not having to be projecting on a microphone to a large crowd.
15:19You guys talk about being students of the game.

15:25I said the game moniker for the first time just off the cuff, just happened to say it.
15:32I knew that we had heard something special.
15:35There is nobody that eats, sleeps or breathes this business more than me.
15:40And now it's my time to prove that to the world.
15:44I knew that was a pivotal moment for me to get across what I was looking for from the business.
15:52I was no longer Hunter Hearst Helmsley, I was just the game.
15:55It was a different conversation.
15:57But when it's said and done, it's about me getting what I deserve in this business,
16:02and that is becoming the WWF champion.
16:09A king is dangerous when they are hungry for glory, but can be even more ruthless when motivated by revenge.
16:15After watching the career of his best friend Shawn Michaels end when he failed to conquer The Undertaker at WrestleMania
16:2126.
16:22The Undertaker is 18-0!
16:24Shawn Michaels' career is over.
16:28Triple H set his sights on the dead man the following year, but he too came up short.
16:33We have seen two men go through an excursion through hell.
16:37With The Undertaker offering him one more shot in immortality and HBK as a special guest referee,
16:43we would witness the phenom in the game wage war inside two tons of harrowing steel.
16:53There have been 24 Hell in a Cell matches in history.
16:57These two men have been in 19 of them.
17:01Our names are synonymous with that match.
17:05Those carcinogenic right hands of The Undertaker, so debilitating.
17:11Three guys that had been in the trenches together for all of it, having our last shot on the front

17:51I knew that we had just finished something that was going to be so special that would last through the
17:58animals of time in our industry.

18:06We have now reached our number one moment, one that would define the grit and determination of the King of

18:122001 saw Triple H running at peak performance, but everything would come to a screeching halt in May of that
18:19year, when the game suffered a career-threatening injury in the form of a torn quad.
18:24The WWE Universe questioned if this was the end of the game.
18:28A horrible break!
18:30For nearly eight grueling months, Triple H put his body through hell to make it back to where he was
18:36meant to be inside the squared circle.
18:37It was time for the game to restart.
18:54One of the loudest guarding ovations that I've ever heard.
18:57That's what you live for.
19:00It has been eight more months of hellacious rehabilitation!
19:05I just have to prove to everybody that I can still do this.
19:09Every moment of hell that he went through was thinking about this very night!

19:29And Triple H got to make his comeback there, and it was with me, which was crazy.
