00:02It's a beautiful day up here in Perisher.
00:04The snowstorm came over the weekend delivering fresh powder across the whole mountain range.
00:09Perisher has seen around 37 centimetres of snow since last week.
00:14Threadbow around 43 centimetres and down in Victoria, Hotham has seen around 36 centimetres.
00:20This is really welcomed news around this time last week.
00:24These slopes were mostly grass, hills.
00:26That's because it's been one of the worst starts of the season since 1957.
00:32June has also been one of the hottest months on record.
00:35That's really hindered natural snowfall and also meant that it hasn't got cold enough for many of the snow machines
00:42to produce that snow.
00:44But at the moment, people are pretty happy.
00:47We spoke to a lot of people yesterday.
00:49They're stoked to be up on the mountain.
00:51However, some people have said that the lines are quite long.
00:55Here's what some people had to say.
00:57We had a booking for this week, but we cancelled it a week ago thinking that there wasn't going to
01:00be snow.
01:01So we've just made a last minute trip down, which is really exciting.
01:04Yesterday was pretty bad, but I think today is getting better now.
01:07Yeah, but we're hoping for more challenges that we open.
01:10For the rest of the week, we will see a lot of sunshine.
01:13It is going to drop down below zero, however, to around minus four overnight, which is really good news for
01:19that snow making.
01:20The mountain really does need a lot more snow.
01:23The perishes are only recording around 34 centimetres of depth and there needs to be a lot more to be
01:30covering the mountain.
01:31At the moment, you can see a lot of grass patches, a lot of dirt patches, and there's only around
01:3610 to so lifts open.
01:38That was at least yesterday and expected around the same today.
01:41They have more than 40 lifts up here in Perisher, so it needs a lot more snow to get that
01:47good base.
01:47But at the same time, it has been welcomed news with this snowstorm over the weekend,
01:52and we will see cold temperatures during the week, so those snow guns can be firing.
