00:00Newcastle's Eldon Square bus station has reopened after resurfacing and upgrade works

00:07The station closed on 10 June to allow contractors to resurface roads, repaint and improve drainage

00:17Newcastle City Council said wet weather made the work harder as resurfacing materials do
00:22not respond well in extreme heat.
00:24Despite this, officials say the station did well to stay on track to reopen once new road
00:30markings were completed over the weekend.
00:33Buses have been using temporary stops across the city centre.
00:37Further work will begin to upgrade traffic lights and pedestrian crossings on Gallo Gate
00:42and on Percy Street.
