00:00A range of major development projects are continuing to shape the Liverpool City region,
00:05from regeneration schemes and cultural investment to infrastructure repair and new leisure facilities.
00:12In Liverpool City Centre, a potential legal challenge is being considered over the Council's decision to extend parking charges into
00:20the evening.
00:21The policy change, which removed free parking after 6pm, was introduced following a review of the City Centre Control Parking
00:28Zone.
00:29The Council says the approach was designed to standardise parking arrangements across the area.
00:34However, some businesses argue the decision has gone too far.
00:38A former City Councillor leading the challenge says it could have an impact on trade and on people working in
00:44the night-time economy.
00:45The Council says it's confident the decision was taken lawfully and will respond to any claims if it proceeds.
00:52Moving on to Knowsley now, a new public art trail in Highton is bringing together local history and community storytelling.
01:01The project, known as Art Around Highton, has been developed with residents and features a series of sculptures and casts
01:08inspired by local life.
01:10These include references to historic industry, sport, transport links and everyday community experiences.
01:18Organisers see the trail's designed to reflect identity and belonging,
01:22with residents contributing personal stories and objects that have been turned into permanent artworks across the town centre.
01:30Elsewhere in Prescott, a demolition work's been completed at parts of the shopping centre site as regeneration plans continue.
01:38The former supermarket unit and an unused printworks building have been removed,
01:44clearing space for future phases of redevelopment.
01:48The wider scheme, backed by the Council and a development partner,
01:51includes proposals for new cultural facilities, improved retail areas, pedestrian routes, housing potential and upgraded public space.
02:00The existing library and museum remain open within the centre while further consultation and design work continues.
02:07In Sefton, work's begun on the next stage of Southport Piers restoration.
02:12The structure, which has been closed for safety reasons, is undergoing early works ahead of a wider rebuilding programme.
02:19The Council's previously secured government funding for the project,
02:23which aims to restore the Grade 2 listed pier over the coming years.
02:27Some sections are now being carefully dismantled as part of that process.
02:31The pier will remain closed throughout the works and is due to reopen in the second half of 2027.
02:38And in Kirby, plans are progressing for a new leisure development featuring paddle courts as part of wider town centre
02:46investment.
02:47The proposal would see a multi-use indoor space created with courts, social areas and supporting facilities.
