00:00But Sean McCoy, he had a Speakeasy podcast.
00:05He had this to say about Shador.
00:07This is a couple days ago.
00:08And, you know, we've had the Cavs rumors and everything.
00:11And we'll get back to those.
00:11Greg Schwartz is going to join us at 820 this morning.
00:13Daryl is in for tone today.
00:15But here's Shady McCoy on his podcast, Speakeasy Podcast,
00:19where he was talking about doing some wild things with Shador Sanders
00:23and the Cleveland Browns.
00:24Hit it.
00:24Because he's in Cleveland and they don't win.
00:27They don't do much good things.
00:28You bring in Deshaun Watson, where a guy that's owed all this money,
00:31you're not going to shoot Shador like we want to.
00:33Let him go to a team where he's running the show.
00:35A fresh start for him would be excellent.
00:36The kid is a superstar in this league, and he just needs the opportunity to show it.
00:39The few flashes that we've seen last year as a true rookie,
00:42and all the stuff he dealt with with the coach, you know how bad he was.
00:45And then they had Dylan Gabriel actually thinking he was going to be an NFL player
00:48for more than three years.
00:49Now if you put Shador Sanders on a real team,
00:52get him some real coaching and some support behind him, bro, who knows?
00:55Because the last time I know, when he had that support,
00:57he did great things, and Jackson State did great things in Colorado.
01:00Well, they just changed out the coach.
01:03I'm getting more and more by it, because I'm trying to be realistic,
01:07and I'm being accused of not being realistic.
01:10Did you want to say something about Shady McCoy before I go after all this stuff
01:14that I'm about to go after here?
01:15I'm just so sick and tired of the Kevin Stefanski sabotage Shador nonsense.
01:20I got a nice clip from somebody else about that later on.
01:23Yeah, and especially from people who aren't even around the team.
01:25They just run their mouths thinking that they know what's going on,
01:28and they don't.
01:30Like, Kevin Stefanski sabotaged Shador Sanders so much
01:33that he did 7 a.m. sessions with the kid last season
01:38to try and help coach him up.
01:41The word sabotage is an operative word,
01:45and I've actually gone around and around with listeners about that.
01:49Because, again, Shador has a massive fan base.
01:52That word's sabotage.
01:53And I have said it a million times over.
01:56I'll take it to the grave.
01:56Kevin Stefanski wouldn't deliberately ruin somebody's career as a quarterback
02:02or try to ruin somebody's career as a quarterback,
02:04no matter what anybody wants to believe.
02:06At what point is Shador Sanders responsible for his own success?
02:09But I think one of the arguments here,
02:11and this is why it's such a tough word,
02:12is that sabotage is something where it's like,
02:16well, he could do it, and he didn't even know it.
02:18He was sabotaging somebody.
02:20And like, well, if that's your theory, that's your theory.
02:22I disagree, but I can't comment to that.
02:25All I know is that he's not going to do things on purpose
02:27to spike somebody's career.
02:29Far the opposite.
02:31But this is where I'm at here.
02:32And I wonder if you agree.
02:36I think we can live in a world where if he doesn't start week one,
02:39he can still be a backup on this football team.
02:41And I don't understand from Lima to Jason to a lot of people online,
02:45they just think I'm nuts.
02:47They think I'm nuts.
02:48That it's either he starts or you have to trade him or cut him.
02:53That there's no other direction like he can be a backup and get ready.
02:58And I'm going, what world am I living in?
03:01And I do have a very strong thing to say about my co-host
03:06over the last couple of days about this.
03:08But I'm going, what world am I living in that this happens all the time?
03:10Like, I don't think it's worth it to sit here and have all this.
03:15And then if he doesn't get the starting job to cut him or trade him,
03:20I think that's insane.
03:22Well, I do think that there is a world in which Shador Sanders
03:26might not be on this football team at the start of the season.
03:30Okay, why?
03:31How?
03:32What's the world?
03:32They do trade him.
03:34Do you believe that they're calling about Shador?
03:36I would not be surprised if teams were inquiring.
03:41I would.
03:41And it's Andrew's job to answer the phone.
03:44I don't think that Andrew Barry is shopping Shador Sanders.
03:47And there is a major difference there.
03:50It's one thing to receive phone calls.
03:52It's another thing to, you see what I'm saying?
03:54And it's another thing to be like, hey, we're looking to move Shador.
03:57Do you want him?
03:58Like, I don't believe that Andrew Barry, I don't think that if he gets traded,
04:01it's going to be that circumstance.
04:03It'll be somebody calls the Browns wanting him.
04:06Here's the thing, though.
04:07And we forget, one of the narratives, if you will, going into the draft,
04:13and one of, I guess you could say the excuses, we'll call them,
04:17as to why he fell to the fifth round, was the concern, allegedly, from NFL teams
04:23about, well, can Shador Sanders come in and be a backup quarterback on our team
04:29and fit in with our locker room or culture or whatever fancy terminology nonsense
04:36you want to throw out there.
04:38And that was kind of leaned into by a lot of people.
04:42So I think that maybe that whole, his popularity, right, you say anything bad about him
04:48or anything remotely critical about him and his fans jump on you immediately.
04:54He's got very passionate support across the country.
05:02But that's part of the reason I'm annoyed with a few of my friends here.
05:06And my thing is, my message to those, because I got heat for saying that there's no excuses
05:12for Shador this year.
05:13And my point was, well, he is getting a chance to be the starting quarterback of this team,
05:18and he's being given an opportunity to sink or swim on his own merits.
05:23They got rid of the coaching staff, so you can't use that argument anymore.
05:27He's got a new coach.
05:28They rebuilt the entire offensive line.
05:31Now, we'll see if that ultimately pays dividends in the season and if that works out.
05:35But they did do that.
05:36They bolstered the wide receiving core, so you can't say that he doesn't have anything
05:39to work with or the organization has made no effort to give him a supporting cast whatsoever
05:44because that's not true now.
05:46So I think that some of those arguments that his supporters had been making as to how the
05:52Browns did not support him organizationally as a rookie last year
05:56I think those have been dispelled in year two.
05:59He's getting first-team reps.
06:01He's getting close to an equal number of first-team reps as Deshaun Watson.
06:06The situations are nearly identical that they're being put in when it comes to the team 11-on-11
06:12work and things like that.
06:13So my whole point is that Shador Sanders, if he doesn't win the starting job, it's not going
06:19to be because of any organizational bias or anyone in the organization trying to hold
06:25him back or punch down on him or anything like that.
06:29If he doesn't win the job, it's going to be because of Shador Sanders.
06:32But I'm going to tell you this.
06:33And I don't think his fans are capable of rationalizing that.
06:37And this is what bothers me the most.
06:39See, this is what I'm getting upset by.
06:42I've said this to their faces and they will hear this and I hope they don't get mad at
06:46me and we can all have it out on the air.
06:48Well, they're going to get mad at me, but we can all have it out on the air publicly.
06:52Because I've been accused of, you're carrying water for Shador because you like Deion Sanders
06:57so much.
06:58I've been accused because I don't want to see Deshaun Watson play.
07:00I've been overzealous about Shador.
07:02Let me just say this.
07:03What bothers me is that I think that my last two co-hosts here this week, I think they've
07:10lost the plot.
07:11I don't understand how we can't quote unquote handle Shador Sanders being a backup.
07:16Yes, if he goes, if Deshaun Watson is the starting quarterback, home fans will boo him.
07:21Well, you know, I say that if they go out there and they win the first two on the road,
07:25I don't
07:26know how many are going to boo him.
07:27But if they're 0-2 and they come back and Deshaun Watson's the start,
07:30yeah, they're going to boo him.
07:31They don't like him.
07:33He reminds him of bad football.
07:34If he's playing poorly.
07:36But this is my thing.
07:37You have an opportunity.
07:39It's us and probably the Jets that offer him the best opportunity, right?
07:43Yeah.
07:44So, and yeah, there might be because of the whole Geno Smith, I don't know what happened
07:48on the internet earlier today or earlier this week.
07:51Maybe there's an opportunity for Shador Sanders.
07:53The Jets are not in the business of winning this year because they won a top draft pick.
07:56But that's what I'm saying here is when you make the trade with Miles Garrett, you're telling
08:01everybody what you think of your QB room, which is honest, and you're also saying, hey,
08:07we're going to give all these guys a whack.
08:09I don't know why at the end of training camp if they go, Deshaun Watson is the starting quarterback,
08:14which Tom Munkin's a first-year head coach, Deshaun Watson's a veteran, it would make sense.
08:18As much as I wouldn't like it, it would make sense.
08:20It's probably going to happen, so get yourself ready for that.
08:23And that's what my issue is, is that I have folks telling me, people who I do respect
08:29Anthony and I do respect Jason, but what I don't like is that, well, he either starts
08:34or we get rid of him.
08:34Why?
08:35Because you can't handle comments on the internet?
08:37Because you can't handle people calling in and that you have to dump?
08:40I mean, I'm sorry, guys.
08:41This is our business.
08:42And I understand.
08:43I don't set out to make everybody upset, and I don't get as much hate as Anthony does
08:51or some of the other ones do.
08:52I understand that.
08:53So it's easy to get up on a soapbox and fire down on everybody.
08:56You're different.
08:57You're a reporter.
08:59That's almost what reporters are for, right?
09:02But that's what comes with the job, guys.
09:05And I don't understand because you don't want to deal with his fan base.
09:09You don't want to deal with any of the other stuff.
09:12He either starts or he gets cut.
09:14Why?
09:14Where are we going?
09:15Where are we going?
09:15If they start Deshaun Watson, how many wins do we really think this football team's going
09:20to have?
09:21Again, the most I can give you on my, and I'm a homer, I can give you six right now.
09:26There are some people who are saying some crazy things.
09:29God bless them if they say they're going to win 10 games this year.
09:32Yeah, you can win a lot of games in the NFL.
09:34The Browns have had teams that can win a lot of games.
09:36They probably won't.
09:37They know what they are.
09:39They know that maybe they're building to something, but probably this year,
09:42eight, the year, because again, they just told everybody with the move that they just
09:45made at the beginning of the month.
09:46So that's my issue, Daryl, is that you've been through all this.
09:51You might as well.
09:52I can find a legitimate reason where I'll bring it up again.
09:56You started late last year.
09:59You got thrust into a situation you shouldn't have been in.
10:01I could sit Shador Sanders down.
10:03If I was Todd Munkin and I could say, hey, there's been a lot of stuff thrown at you.
10:07Stand on the sidelines.
10:09Catch your breath in game.
10:10We're going to need you.
10:11Hit the books.
10:12Make sure you're ready week by week.
10:13Prepare for these opponents as you've been preparing.
10:16But we're going to do things differently, obviously, because that's why I got brought
10:19in as the new head coach.
10:20And then eventually your number is going to be called and you've got to be ready for it.
10:23Instead of, no, we've got to get rid of him.
10:24Why?
10:25Because I don't like reading nasty tweets.
10:26Okay.
10:27Well, that's why?
10:27Okay.
10:28Fine.
10:28I could make an argument that that might be his best path to success is that he comes
10:34in mid-season, gets a few extra weeks to get whatever work in he might need to get in
10:40or whatever.
10:42I could see a world where that might benefit him more than having him start week one.
10:48But I will say this.
10:50I'd rather them start Shador Sanders week one.
10:53I've said that a multitude of times.
10:55I see no value in going down the Deshaun Watson road again.
10:59I don't either.
11:00I don't either.
11:01I think you're wasting time.
11:03I don't really think they do.
11:04I think they want Shador Sanders to win the job.
11:06I would rather watch Shador go out there and struggle early in the season.
11:12And then hopefully by the time you get to mid-season and later in the season, it starts to click
11:17for him and you see that progress.
11:19Yes.
11:19I would rather go through that whole process than start with Deshaun in week one.
11:23And then I get accused of, oh, you're hating on Shador.
11:28You don't want him to be successful.
11:30No.
11:31I've actually been in Shador's dance.
11:33You can be in a guy's corner and be critical of him at the same time.
11:36I'm agreeing with you.
11:37And see, this is where I'm at with this, is that I can't believe that you've been, and
11:42I'm not against you here.
11:44I know I'm having a fight with other people.
11:45But let me say this.
11:46You've been doing this for how long?
11:48Covering the Browns.
11:49How long?
11:49A long time.
11:50A long time.
11:51Over 20 years, right?
11:52Jason's been doing it over 20 years.
11:54We've been on the fan for 15 years.
11:55I've been around the Cleveland Browns since my old station, a total of 17 years in some
12:01capacity around the Cleveland Browns.
12:03So we've ran into a lot of great football coaches.
12:05We've ran into a lot of suck-ass football coaches.
12:07We ran into a lot of guys who ended up being great coaches in other places with this Cleveland
12:12Browns football team.
12:12To spend that much time around the NFL, to spend that much time around the locker room,
12:18to spend that much time around professional football players and professional coaches,
12:21and to then just say, well, if he ain't going to play, that's not real.
12:25That's not real.
12:26And I'm seeing a huge divide between media and real life.
12:30And I'm telling you, what bothers me so much is that we know better.
12:34We know better.
12:36He's a young quarterback.
12:37If he works out, great.
12:38If he doesn't, which I don't know if they, I don't think they really think he is with what
12:43they just did.
12:43Fine.
12:44Throw another quarterback on the pile.
12:46It's the way things have been going for 26 years.
12:48But to say, if he can't start, he needs to be traded.
12:50I think it's insane.
12:51Well, you also, too, to go the route you just went, Ken, if it doesn't work out, he was
12:56a fifth-round pick.
12:57So what?
12:58And again, that's no shade of Shador.
13:01I'm just saying, like, organizationally, it's not a failure.
13:03There's a lot of people who just, if he doesn't play, well, what's the point?
13:09Give up on him.
13:11Oh, okay.
13:12All right.
13:13I'm going to line up Dylan Gabriel for you.
13:16Please don't.
13:16Go get your tickets now, guys.
13:18Please, please.
13:19I mean, if I'm going to do it...
13:21I would rather watch Deshaun Watson than Dylan Gabriel.
13:23If you want me to step into Carnival Barker, Kenny Carmen land, yeah, some of them passes
13:28haven't even landed yet.
13:29You can't even hit the backslide of that.
13:31If you want me to go back into Carnival Barker land, like, I can cross both worlds.
13:36Like, we've been...
13:36Daryl, you've been in the locker room.
13:38I've been in the locker room.
13:39Regreted, I don't like being in locker rooms.
13:40But, you've been in the locker room.
13:41You've talked to these guys.
13:43It's not how their world works.
13:44Nope.
13:44That's not how a coach's world works.
13:46You don't just cut a guy because of that.
13:47He's not a problem in the locker room.
13:49He's not a problem in public.
13:51He's the one quarterback players are actually going to talk to in the locker room on this team.
13:55Because some of us don't like the tweets we're getting on the internet.
13:59Okay, and yeah, I understand that there's been some fans who've gone over the line, and I don't like that,
14:05and I'm not condoning that.
14:06But because we don't like some of the things we've got on the internet, we'll either play or we cut
14:10them.
14:10Okay, I'll step back into Carnival Barker land now.
14:13Okay, fine.
14:14Deshaun Watson for everybody, and then we'll put Dylan Gabriel out there if Deshaun Watson doesn't work.
14:18Oh, please don't do that to me.
14:19I've suffered enough.
14:20Come on out to the stadium, guys.
14:21Come on out and watch.
14:22I'm paid to cover this team, and I've suffered enough.
14:25I don't need to see Dylan Gabriel ever again.
14:26Come on out.
14:27Come on out.
14:27We'll all sit together.
14:30I mean, that'll end up like clockwork orange.
14:33You can do that.
14:35You can do that.
14:36If this is just a season we're getting through to get to the 2027 draft, then I'll go Carnival Barker
14:42world and go,
14:42who'd you rather see if Deshaun Watson goes out there and sucks up the room the way a lot of
14:47us think he's probably going to do?
14:48Because somehow he's regressed in t-shirts and shorts.
14:50I got news for you.
14:51So, which is not, by the way, I'm not denying those reports that he's regressed.
14:54I'm saying, how can you regress in t-shirts and shorts as a veteran that's been in the league for
14:58almost 10 years now?
14:59Well, because you haven't played.
15:00Well, that has something to do with it.
15:02So, once we get over the Deshaun thing, then we'll go to Dylan Gabriel.
15:0719 starts, Deshaun Watson's thrown for 250 twice.
15:10Hot and bothered.
15:11We're going to get him out there.
15:13216-474-0092.
15:15So, even if I do Kenny the Carnival Barker, or I do Kenny the Football Guy Hardass lookalike, clowning around,
15:24cosplayer.
15:25Like you're coaching your Streetsboro kids.
15:28Even if I...
15:29By the way, you cuss your kids out?
15:30No, I don't cuss at them.
15:32You yell at them.
15:33Do you yell at them?
15:34I speak at a volume that everybody can hear.
15:36Well, you always speak at a volume that everyone can hear.
15:39Honestly, honestly, I don't...
15:42I don't...
15:43I've never had a meltdown ranting in Raven.
15:45Never like that.
15:47And I...
15:49Even though, yeah, when the lights are off here, Owen and I are known to cuss a blue streak,
15:55I don't...
15:56Not in front of them.
15:57Now, this is my last year, so I may throw caution to the wind and say,
16:00to hell, what are you going to do about it?
16:02Maybe I'll do that.
16:03I don't know.
16:03We'll see.
16:04You know what?
16:04They always line me up to give that speech before they hit the field,
16:07and October 10th, that last home game will be here,
16:09and I might just let it ride.
16:10I will find out.
16:11I'm a wild card.
16:12You have no idea.
16:13I was going to say, I think you'd make a pretty good high school coach.
16:16I actually got a group text going on right now.
16:19My other coaches may disagree with you.
16:21Anyway, anyway, thank you very much, TJ, Jamie, and Ray, and Brad for listening.
16:30216-474-0092.
16:32Do I suck as a foot?
16:33No, I'm kidding.
16:33Hey, look, Eric Mangini went from intern to head coach of the Browns.
16:36There's hope for you.
16:39You know what?
16:39He went from getting coffee to being the head coach of the Cleveland Browns.
16:43You're making me feel good about myself.
16:45There's hope for you.
16:46Listen, Owen, just because you beat me in the shoe.
16:48Remember, I wasn't the head coach, okay?
16:50Wasn't the head coach, and I'm not the head coach still.
16:53Hey, I was just calling offense.
16:55What were you doing, defense?
16:56Don't those two play against each other?
16:58Moving on there, bud.
16:59You got a bigger program.
17:00Got a bigger program.
17:01Moving on there.
17:02I don't know.
17:02I'm hearing some excuses here, Owen.
17:03It was a beautiful, sunny day, and the scoreboard wasn't even on.
17:05So, I mean, who's to know what the score was?
17:09Who's to know?
17:10My phone.
17:13People in the stands.
17:14All those parents.
17:15That sucks that got ruined.
17:18Some parents out of the listening area, so I can say this,
17:21that was a cool experience down there, and those parents ruined it.
17:23They got in a fight in the parking lot before it ruined the whole thing.
17:28It was like one of the best things ever.
17:30The kids loved it.
17:31The parents loved it.
17:31The parents ruining the youth experience.
17:33How parents got in a fight at the shoe when the scoreboard isn't even on
17:37and there's not a PA announcer or anything is beyond me, but whatever.
17:41Yeah, that's terrible.
17:42Because that picture will be up at my funeral.
17:44It was not anyone from either of our community.
17:46No, no, it wasn't.
17:47I said they are not in the listening area.
17:51They might be listening on the free Odyssey app.
17:53I don't care.
17:53It was terrible.
17:54I'm reminded of that sign I love seeing at Ballfields.
17:57This is not the World Series, okay?
18:00But I'll tell you this.
18:02Again, as either Carnival Barker, me behind the microphone, okay?
18:07I mean, literally.
18:08And I wore the clown makeup once on the air for the Halloween show last year,
18:12so I'm a glorified clown if we want to do it that way.
18:14Or if I want to be a cosplayer hard-ass football guy, Ken, it makes no sense either way.
18:20It makes no sense either way.
18:22So what?
18:22We're tired of reading emails.
18:24We're tired of getting nasty calls.
18:25Who cares?
18:26That's part of what we're here for.
18:27It's all entertainment.
18:28Entertainment, that's what it's supposed to be.
18:29So if it's all entertainment, quote-unquote, I think the Browns fans,
18:32even if they're not fans of the guy, it's much more interesting to talk about
18:37Chador Sanders if we want to do it that way than we want to do Dylan Gabriel.
18:40But then if I want to get real about it in football terms, why on earth I've been
18:45through all this, I've given him an opportunity to start, and I'm going to
18:48cut him after camp?
18:49That's insane.
18:51I look at him.
18:51Listen to what's coming out of some of our mouths.
18:54He's good for business.
18:55Goodness, this team's got three wins late in the season, but Chador is playing.
19:00Guess who's still reading, listening, watching, reacting?
19:04The fans.
19:07Go to the phones.
19:08Drake in Cleveland.
19:09Hello, Drake.
19:11We have Drake.
19:14Drake gone?
19:15Drake's gone.
19:15Hate the Drake.
19:16Joe and Avon.
19:17Joe, you there?
19:18Are we having phone problems?
19:19No, we're good.
19:20I hate the Drake.
19:21Super Bowl or big TV or not.
19:23Thank you, Joe.
19:24Go ahead.
19:25All right.
19:26Ken, I'm on board with you.
19:28What is the point of doing all this?
19:30To me, it's almost a scared, that 5% chance that he might be the guy.
19:35Let's run away and hide.
19:38Why?
19:38I'm 49 years old.
19:40I've been through.
19:42Bernie was beautiful.
19:44And John Elway ruined my life.
19:46Okay, that's fine.
19:48Where we're at, you've actually, for the first time forever, checked the O-line boxes.
19:53Checked the wide receiver boxes.
19:56You've got tight ends.
19:57You also have a fullback.
19:58You have a guy that's actually a football coach.
20:01And not necessarily, and I don't mean that in a bad way with Stefanski.
20:04He was all right.
20:05But you've got a full-time football guy.
20:08And the defense side of the ball is still phenomenal, miles or otherwise.
20:14It doesn't have to be start or not start.
20:17Let's see what happens.
20:19And if it's nothing, he's a fifth-round pick.
20:22What have you lost?
20:23If you get a second or third-round pick for him, I think that's a complete waste.
20:27Who cares?
20:28We have enough draft picks.
20:30What, do you want to get something else that might be something?
20:32See what you have.
20:33If it's nothing, we've got everything lined up for next year.
20:36Jimmy, let's do it.
20:39Let's see what happens.
20:40The worst thing about it, I'm serious.
20:43Joe, thank you for the call.
20:44Because we've given people who are far more idiotic far more chances.
20:48He's not a bad person.
20:50He's not dumb.
20:51Not dumb.
20:52Not bad.
20:53I've had dumb.
20:54I've had bad play for this football team.
20:57The worst thing he's going to do is lose football games,
21:00which in the end is not going to make anybody happy,
21:03but in the end is going to still put you in a better position.
21:06So even if I wanted to paint the picture that way,
21:08I'm glad you agree with me on this, Darrell.
21:10I mean, it doesn't make for me getting red-faced and angry,
21:12which is what a lot of people seem to want,
21:14but it does make me happy that there's at least some common sense
21:18because the whole cutting or trading if he doesn't start to me is just ridiculous.
21:22The bar is low, but it would take a lot for him to be the worst quarterback
21:26we've ever seen since 1999.
21:29No, I'm serious.
21:30I mean, it would have to be a complete unmitigated disaster,
21:33which if you watched those seven games last year, it wasn't.
21:37I mean, here's the only two.
21:39There could be an – if Shador Sanders can start this year,
21:42there could be an entertainment factor with it.
21:44It might be good entertainment.
21:45It might be bad entertainment, but it's going to be entertaining.
21:48And isn't that what it's about?
21:49Sure.
