00:00Lots going on, including NHL Draft, which feels like a ticking clock on the possibility of a Dylan Larkin trade.
00:07So, let's get the very latest from the Dylan Larkin Trade Center News Aggregate Blitz Thingy News Desk.
00:14And Scott, we start with reporting from David Peñata, NHL Insider, on the Fan 590 in Toronto.
00:22Will the Larkin deal get done before the draft? Here's what he said.
00:30The NHL Draft.
00:31There's a lot going on.
00:56The NHL Draft starts tomorrow at 7 p.m.
01:01Can they get this deal done before then?
01:05Starts tonight.
01:06This is here Friday.
01:07The NHL Draft relief is Thursday Friday, isn't it?
01:09Am I wrong on that?
01:10I don't know.
01:11Anyway, the clock's ticking.
01:13The clock is definitely ticking.
01:14And it's a situation where I'm not so sure that they get something done before or during the draft.
01:24I think Steve Eisenman is going to do his best to get the maximum value out of this.
01:28And if that means that this year's first round picks are unavailable to him, so be it.
01:34Then he'll have future draft capital to get in return for Larkin along with players.
01:39And I do think he wants player or players in return.
01:43He's got the best bargaining chip out there right now.
01:46Dylan Larkin is a player that is coveted by every single team in the league.
01:50He's a two-way center.
01:52He doesn't have to be your number one center.
01:54He can be your number two center.
01:55He's outstanding.
01:56And if you have a team that has some depth at forward, you're really going to be adding an excellent
02:01piece to that team.
02:02And everybody knows it.
02:03And they're going to have to bid high for him.
02:04And right now the prices have been very high in the trade market.
02:09So I think that bodes well for the Red Wings.
02:13But I guess I would just disagree.
02:15I don't think there's a sense of urgency to get things done.
02:17Does he want it to be a distraction?
02:18Of course he doesn't want it to be a distraction.
02:19But he'll take his time.
02:21And if the right deal comes to play this week, then it does.
02:25But I wouldn't count on it.
02:26If you want draft capital, you better get it done now.
02:29If you want draft capital and players, you better get it done now.
02:32If you just want players, then the draft doesn't matter.
02:36So it does appear that he wants players.
02:39And so he's got 28 hours here or whatever.
02:46It's 30 hours to get a deal done if draft capital is involved.
02:51I think he probably wants players and draft capital.
02:54My guess is that's what people are offering.
02:56So it's hard for me to imagine that it doesn't get done before the draft starts
03:03unless he's got something, an offer, an offer that he's comfortable with
03:08that's just players, and he'll just continue to shop around
03:11and see if he can get a better offer.
03:12All right, next up, what are some ramifications of this trade?
03:17Pinata speaks about what else a Larkin trade could trigger.
03:21Do I have a lot of time?
03:24Okay.
03:24So what's the hot side of it?
03:28Just like the turn.
03:29You know, like the turn, you just get the cap.
03:32I have to do it.
03:35When did I say that?
03:36What are you doing?
03:37I'm going to have to go over there.
03:44Yeah.
03:45I'm going to read him right here.
03:48I'm going to read him right here.
03:49I'm going to read him right here.
03:49I'm going to read him right here.
04:21That's interesting.
04:22The DeBrenka stuff is really interesting.
04:25He's a free agent after the next season, so there has to be some discussion about that.
04:30Perhaps another reason why I don't think it's just going to be future picks and future considerations
04:35or prospects that are three years away from making it or two years away from making it into the NHL.
04:40I think they're going to get a player or players that will immediately impact this roster
04:46because they want to take that direction in making the playoffs.
04:49And it's going to have to coincide with a bunch of their own guys stepping up and being better
04:54and matriculating from the minors to the NHL as well.
04:59But the DeBrenka thing is, if you lose DeBrenka, Patrick Kane's not coming here.
05:05Patrick Kane is only going to stay in Detroit if the first thing is if Alex DeBrenka is here.
05:11And if you've got that, that still doesn't guarantee it.
05:14But, I mean, I think you also have to present yourself to Patrick Kane that you're a team that's going
05:18to compete for the playoffs.
05:19Patrick Kane has been excellent the last couple of seasons here.
05:22You know, when he stays healthy and he's missed some games from time to time.
05:26But, I mean, he is still an elite playmaker and automatically improves anybody's power play significantly.
05:34He's got value, absolutely has value in this league.
05:37And, you know, as a free agent, I think if you're Patrick Kane, you're going to sit around and wait
05:41and see what happens here.
05:43But I don't think the Red Wings want to lose DeBrenka.
05:46I mean, DeBrenka, he's gotten better as a Red Wing.
05:49If you trade Alex DeBrenka, you're in a full-scale rebuild.
05:53Yeah.
05:53And you may as well then just get draft picks back for all of them and just say we're starting
05:58all over.
05:58We're scrapping this and we're starting all over.
06:00This isn't a half rebuild or a reboot or anything.
06:05It's a full-scale rebuild.
06:06Hell, you may as well trade John Gibson while you're at it and call up, you know, just roll with
06:12two young goalies, right?
06:12I mean, that's where they're at, and then you're going to be drafted high the following year, and we are
06:18totally back to square one.
06:20Next up from the Larkin Trade Center news desk, the Daily Faceoff had NHL insider Michael Russo from The Athletic
06:28on.
06:28He had this to say about Detroit and talks with Minnesota.
06:42Yeah.
06:49That's 31.
06:51We've got a couple of minutes.
06:53I'm sorry.
06:54This place is my last.
06:57How long?
06:59How long?
07:01Yeah, it's nine miles a week.
07:03How long?
07:05This is, I'm sorry, nine miles.
07:10Okay.
07:11That's a great deal.
07:27i think minnesota's run out of tradable assets and wall stat they could include wall stat if
07:34detroit included cosa if they wanted now wall stat they're trying to win with and and so i
07:41don't know i it just doesn't feel like a detroit minnesota i think minnesota wants them bad i
07:46just don't know that they can match the price and we've been talking about a third team since this
07:50thing started minnesota is trying everything they can to make this happen i mean honestly i mean
07:55they'd offer to byron buxton if they could to get this to happen but it's it doesn't seem to me
08:01like
08:01they have enough they've got a couple of prospects as as were mentioned there but that's that's not
08:06enough and you know you want future draft capital well they don't have a first round pick
08:11uh for the draft tomorrow night if i'm if i'm correct on that and uh i just i don't see
08:17it
08:17being enough they would have to get a third team involved and then they would have to seriously
08:22consider moving the the goaltender wall stat to make that happen and then if the red wings have
08:27to step up and move one of their goal to move one of their goaltender prospects well then i guess
08:32i'm
08:33wanting more you know i mean if you're going to package uh sebastian kosa and dylan larkin
08:40to a team that's a hell of a package of players that one's a big prospect and the other is
08:45obviously the the top tradable asset in the market right now i expect a lot in return if you're going
08:50to give up both of those guys i think minnesota can try all they want they can be on speed
08:55dial with
08:55every hour on the hour but i don't see it happening uh unless they get a third team involved uh
09:02final
09:02note nhl rumor report had darren drager from early trading telling them uh that jason robertson the
09:09restricted free agent at dallas quote we're going to find out how it plays out and i think in the
09:14next handful of days here the expectation is the stars will make their final offer if that's not good
09:19enough they'll consider what their trade options are the thing about robertson being a restricted free
09:25agent is getting him to agree to a long-term contract in detroit this would be a hockey trade
09:31this would be a talent for talent trade this would not be a full-scale rebuild this means to brink
09:36it
09:36would be here this means cane probably would come back this means they'll be putting a competitive
09:41hockey team that still needs work but a competitive hockey team on the ice next year can they get this
09:48done i i'm not sure i mean i i think maybe the toughest sell is just selling
09:54jason robertson on on detroit hundred percent um if he wants to even be here uh yeah he spent some
10:01time here uh in his life uh as as a as a kid but i don't know if playing for
10:08the red wings holds that
10:09much of a draw to him so if you can convince him that's the first thing and then do you
10:14have
10:14obviously you know larkin is part of that package it would have to go in return if you're going to
10:18trade for him as a restricted free agent but you gotta you gotta pony up the money and is steve
10:22willing to pay jason robertson 13 14 million dollars a season a long term to acquire him i'm
10:32not sure if if if he is it seemed like that was part of the reluctance with with quinn hughes
10:37um
10:38you know how much was he willing to pay quinn hughes if they were able to trade for him
10:42was that a sticking point there uh i'm not sure i i hope i hope it's it's possibility because jason
10:49robertson's outstanding more than a point a game guy he's a guy who's scored 100 points in his
10:53career in in a season those guys don't come around that often uh as as being available to you he
11:00is
11:00available because he's restricted for agent i would love to see if they could put something together
11:04to acquire him i mean this is a guy who scores goals he he shares the puck as well he's
11:10offensively
11:10very gifted and i think could help elevate some other players on this team i think he'd be great for
11:16this team but i'm not sure if there's really that path to go there if eisman doesn't want to spend
11:21money there it is that concludes the very latest on what's being reported out there regarding dylan
11:26larkin and his trade demands as we move in on the national hockey league draft it is karshen anderson
