Amazon founder Jeff Bezos told VivaTech 2026 on Wednesday that slow decision-making inhibits companies from innovation.

00:00Amazon is a giant company, but we make decisions very quickly.
00:05And this is something that you need to be able to do.
00:08And I can tell you why decisions get slow, especially in large companies.
00:12And Blue is a pretty big company at this point.
00:14You know, we have 14,000, 15,000 people.
00:17It's not a small company.
00:18And the reason is you start making all decisions as if they're all the same size.
00:24It's like one-size-fits-all thinking.
00:26And, you know, if you have a one-size-fits-all robe, it never fits.
00:30It's one of the reasons that small companies can be so nimble is because a small group of people can
00:35be so decisive.
00:37And, you know, a company with 100 people and a really good founder or a leader, they can touch every
00:43part of the company.
00:43They can be involved in every decision.
00:45And they can be incredibly decisive and move fast.
00:48So that's an important part of culture.
00:50Aerospace, I think, often suffers from slow decision-making speed.
00:56And I know how aerospace gets there.
00:59But, I mean, you know, you're building things that often have, you know, hazardous operations, life-safety-critical missions.
01:06And so, again, not every decision is like that, though.
01:10And so you end up making every decision as if it's life-safety-critical.
01:14And then you're going to move very slowly.
01:17And that's not going to lead to the results that you want.
01:20So, let's go.
01:20So, let's go.
