00:01Well, it will be really turning its focus to what's known as the National Anti-Racism
00:06Framework. This is something that was proposed by the Australian Human Rights Commissioner
00:11and the Race Discrimination Commissioner, Giridharan Sivaraman, has been putting this
00:18forward for some time now. Back in 2024, this framework was proposed, 63 recommendations
00:26tackling all forms of racism, of course, including anti-Semitism and Islamophobia across a whole
00:33range of sectors, whether it be health, justice, media, business. And that actually followed
00:39a 2022 election commitment from Anthony Albanese to bring in a National Anti-Racism Framework.
00:47The government has yet to implement those recommendations and it has been facing calls
00:51to act on that. And so we'll be hearing from the Commissioner a bit more about that. And
00:56in coming days, we expect we'll also be hearing from the Department of Home Affairs to get
01:02the government's response about how that's being implemented.
01:05And Gavin, a former state premier will also be giving evidence. What can you tell me about
01:09that?
01:10Yeah, Kath, Peter Gatwin, who was the premier in Tasmania between 2020 and 2022, he's now
01:16the head of the Australian Multicultural Council and himself a migrant. He's been a big advocate
01:23for multiculturalism. So we're going to be hearing from him today about the need for a cohesive
01:30and coordinated narrative around multiculturalism and social cohesion in this country. We expect
01:37he'll actually be highlighting the role of personal stories when it comes to migrants in the country
01:43to counter negative narratives and fear-mongering around the role of migrants in Australia.
01:49This sort of follows on from themes we heard yesterday, whereby Jewish and Palestinian people
01:56have been coming together at the grassroots level quite productively in recent years, despite
02:01that top level perhaps chill. We did hear yesterday at the higher level, there has been a bit of a
02:06breakdown in relations to some degree between multi-faith leaders. But at the grassroots level,
02:11we heard yesterday that there are monthly dialogues happening in Melbourne where pro-Palestinian
02:16protesters are going to rallies and then going straight from those rallies to these monthly
02:21dialogues with Jewish people and having really productive conversations, finding common ground
02:26and really connecting on things like music and the arts. So we expect we'll be hearing a bit
02:31more from Peter Gatwin about this today.
