00:00They have got still a little bit of room to be able to try to work this out, but that's
00:06all contingent upon the Padres not ripping off another 13 out of 15 games and winning.
00:12So they've got to be very careful over the next week or so.
00:17A lot of turmoil, I got to feel, in that organization and with the loss of Marte.
00:22I don't think we're going to see him back.
00:24I don't know if once you put him on the restricted list and he's under contract, it's not like
00:29you can't just drop him, right?
00:31You're not paying him, but at the same time, as soon as the season's over, do you just
00:36release him?
00:36Is that how that works?
00:38No, because I think he's got a long-term contract.
00:41So I guess what's probably going to happen with this, and I've been wrong before on these
00:45issues, on these CBA issues, but what I think could happen, let's just say that, is the Diamondbacks
00:52will just have him on this restricted list indefinitely.
00:55And then eventually, the agent for Marte will call the players union and say, hey, it's
01:01time to start paying Marte again.
01:03You got to get him off the restricted list, and then they have this discussion.
01:07Okay, but is he going to come back to the team?
01:09Because if not, we're going to keep him on the restrict, you know, that kind of stuff.
01:12So that's when the Players Association files a grievance.
01:15They get involved.
01:16They're always going to fight for the player regardless of that.
01:19This restricted stuff is not indefinite.
01:22He, Marte, no, no, Marte is going to look at his direct deposit, Joe, and there's nothing
01:28coming in.
01:29And he's going to say, okay, listen, I'm not going to go play for them, but I'll show up
01:34and I'll start working out and I'll do whatever they need me to do to get off that restricted
01:38list.
01:38I mean, Joe, you know how it is.
01:40Like we all do.
01:40We don't get the money in the bank.
01:42We're like, even though Marte's got $100 million, he's going to look and say, wait a second
01:45here, I'm not getting paid.
01:46Okay, I'll start showing up and get my money in there.
01:49Yeah, your outlook starts to look a lot different.
01:53And by the way, they could also come to an agreement.
01:56They could come to an agreement.
01:57And look, they can't withhold his pay.
02:00You can't do that.
02:02But they can keep him on the restricted list for a period of time until the Players Association
02:08starts to get involved and Marte's agent starts to get involved.
02:11But it seemed like today we got a little bit more clarity that maybe that he said through
02:17his agent that he doesn't want to play again.
02:19So, you know, we'll see.
02:22We'll see what happens there.
02:24I'm curious.
02:25What happens if he's not playing by the time the postseason comes?
02:30Does that take up a roster spot?
02:32Are they allowed to replace him?
02:34Or does he count against?
02:35Yeah.
02:36If he's on the IL, yes.
02:38But they haven't placed him on the IL yet.
02:40He's still on the restricted list.
02:42He's going to come back from the restricted list.
02:44And then I think he'll go on the IL.
02:46And that will allow him to get paid.
02:47But it will allow them to replace him on the roster.
02:50To replace him on the roster.
02:52There you go.
02:52Yeah.
02:53I would assume the Diamondbacks will want to do that.
02:56If the Diamondbacks were out of it, Joe, they may just want to put him on the restricted
02:59list the rest of the season.
03:00If they could, they'll fight that.
03:01But I would assume they want to call somebody else up for it.
03:04And by the way, I believe they did call somebody up.
03:08But that's also like playing with a man short, playing with 25 guys.
03:11I'm assuming they're only playing with 25 today and not 26.
03:14Eventually, they've got to make a move so they can have 26 again.
03:18This has got to come to a head one way or the other.
03:21And sooner rather than later for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
