00:30The riders wouldn't get their chance at the 2.6km prologue
00:32until the youngsters had taken the circuit for themselves
00:35rightly so, as they do
00:37on every day of the stages of the Liedeldeutschland Tour
00:41and just after they'd done that, I can tell you, it started raining
00:44the circuit was soaking wet for the first riders
00:46who'd had 1km to climb
00:48and 1,600m to bring it home
00:51and that meant the early stages were pretty dangerous too
00:54it didn't work out quite so well for absolutely everyone
01:00As you can see, first crash unfortunately was for Martin Reisenberg
01:03but he wasn't to be the only one in the early stages
01:05who found the wet conditions were particularly tricky
01:09Fran Mihailovic also just managing to stay upright
01:12the Croatian in the very early stages
01:16we had an early leader in the shape of Henry Ulig
01:19the German rider was a popular hot seat contestant
01:24however, he wasn't going to stay there for too long
01:26because others who came at him were already very close indeed
01:29Eduardo Zamberini showing he's in fine sprinting form
01:32the Italian for Team Bahrain victorious
01:35not quite close enough to knock the German off the hot seat
01:38but it wouldn't be long
01:39before we saw the start of Paul Manier
01:42he was 32nd off
01:43in fact, the Sudau quick-step man
01:45fresh from his win
01:45in the Hamburg Cyclassics on Sunday
01:48in very good form
01:50but was he in prologue form?
01:52that was the question
01:52and the answer was yes
01:55it was clear
01:5513 seconds
01:5712 seconds
01:5811 seconds
01:59look at that
01:59the best time for Paul Manier
02:01by quite some way
02:02and the Frenchman
02:05usurping Henry Ulig
02:06and sitting himself in the hot seat
02:09things were drying out as well
02:10the rain had stopped in Bad Orb
02:12in the spa town
02:14and things were definitely getting quicker as well
02:17Louis Barret
02:18turning up with a brilliant ride
02:19to be amongst the best of the climbers
02:21the Frenchman for Visma Lisa bike
02:24and then came Matthias Watzek
02:25the man who
02:26arguably is one of the best all-rounders this year
02:29Danny Van Poppel
02:30of course finished across the line
02:32first in one of the stages last year
02:33before being relegated
02:34so often second in this race
02:36was this to be his day
02:37in the prologue
02:39well there you go
02:39second fastest once again
02:41for the Dutch fast man
02:43how would Matthias Watzek do
02:45the Czech time trial
02:46and road race champion
02:47we waited
02:48Max Schachmann came
02:49and with a good time too
02:50the German
02:51former stage winner
02:54and Watzek
02:55would be extremely close
02:57to Paul Manier
02:58but not close enough
02:59the Frenchman was in the hot seat
03:00watching these strong men
03:02come and challenge him
03:03but none of them
03:04could knock him off top spot
03:07it was a fascinating clash
03:09between the fast men
03:10the time trialists
03:11and as well
03:12as you would see
03:13the climbers
03:14Max Walscheid
03:15always a very firm favourite here
03:16particularly in stages
03:17just like this
03:18big German
03:19for Lidltrek
03:20one of a very very strong group
03:22of Lidltrek riders here
03:24at the Lidl Deutschland Tour
03:26Walscheid would be close
03:27but not close enough
03:29and Manier still
03:30on top spot
03:31in Baddorf
03:32would that be the way
03:33it would stay
03:35Thibaut Del Grosso
03:36one of the strong
03:36cyclocross riders
03:37and all-rounders
03:38who would definitely challenge
03:39and he was close
03:40the Dutchman
03:42Manier surviving
03:43but he knew it
03:44he was smiling
03:45still in the hot seat
03:46and watching the screen
03:47Niels Pollitt
03:48former general classification
03:49winner of two stages
03:51two
03:51Pollitt was close
03:53but still not close enough
03:55the German time trial champion
03:56and then came
03:58the Mexican road race
03:59and time trial champion
04:00fresh from his third place
04:02at the Tour de France
04:02he's at Del Toro
04:03ready to start
04:04Tobias Muller
04:05was challenging as well
04:06another of those
04:07strong Germans
04:08for Unibet Rose Rockets
04:10but still not close enough
04:12Del Toro started
04:14and we were aware
04:15that really anything
04:16could happen
04:16he's not the best sprinter
04:18he's not the best time trialist
04:19he's probably the best climber
04:21but really
04:22the prologue
04:23it's only 2.6 kilometres
04:25he's fresh from third place
04:26at the Tour de France
04:27would he challenge
04:28the likes of Marco Haller
04:30Paul Manier
04:31there were no intermediate
04:32time checks
04:33in this bad or prologue
04:34just the clock
04:35and the finish
04:36we wouldn't know
04:38until he got there
04:39Laurence Rakes was late
04:40and he challenged
04:41his own team mate
04:42Paul Manier
04:42who was enjoying
04:43seeing exactly that happen
04:45but
04:46in the back of his mind
04:47and ours
04:47we knew
04:48that Isaac Del Toro
04:50is not
04:51to be underestimated
04:53Paul Manier knew it
04:54Isaac Del Toro knew it
04:56and the clock
04:57told us the answer
04:58look at that
04:59it was close
05:00but the green
05:01was all that mattered
05:02Isaac Del Toro
05:03across the line
05:04winner of the prologue
05:06and wearer
05:07of the first
05:07general classification

05:34Isaac Del Toro
05:35will go into it
05:36as race leader
