00:00Family circus, family feud, no trust in the trust, buses throwing each other under the
00:08bus.
00:09The hell's going on with the Lakers?
00:11Then, of course, we have the Clippers.
00:14Is the NBA saying nothing to see here?
00:17Steve Ballmer negotiating an end to the investigation?
00:21What the hell does any of this mean?
00:23California Post, superstar, reporter, our guy Kobe Price is going to join us to break
00:28it all down.
00:29Then, we're going to head to the Diamond.
00:30Yankees can't catch a break.
00:32The Dodgers get off the Schneid.
00:34Pete Crow Armstrong hits the White Sox with a walk on and a walk off.
00:40Plus, is Oregon the team to beat in college football this season?
00:43All that, coming up on Shine Time.
00:47Don't stop, keep it coming baby, don't stop.
00:57Hollywood is known for drama, the Lakers no stranger to it, but in this latest script,
01:02it continues to have unexpected twists and turns.
01:04Mark Walter, who purchased the majority ownership of the Lakers for the bus family last year for a record valuation
01:13of $10 billion,
01:14last week agreed to sell his stakes in the Lakers to Bob Iger and Josh Kushner at a historic valuation
01:24of $12.5 billion.
01:27Now, ESPN first reported on Monday that the bus siblings voted to sell the family's remaining 17.8% ownership
01:36of the Lakers to Iger and Kushner.
01:40Well, not so fast.
01:43In a letter obtained by the California Post addressed to the lawyers representing her five other siblings in the bus
01:49family trust,
01:51Jeannie Buss' lawyer, Adam Streisand, stated that Jeannie did not agree to sell the team
01:57and that any votes of the bus family selling would need Jeannie's approval.
02:03So what does this mean when it comes to the future of the Lakers?
02:08Well, first and foremost, there's a lot here.
02:11And I want to start with this.
02:13I feel terrible for the Laker fan.
02:16The Lakers forever, a signature franchise in Los Angeles, in the NBA, in all of sports.
02:23It's an iconic, mesmerizing, legendary brand.
02:27And now we have Showtime is an absolute chaotic disaster and mess.
02:34It is completely unfair to the Lakers fans.
02:38You think about the bus family and Dr. Jerry Buss and you knew who he was and what he was
02:44and what he represented.
02:45And obviously, you think about Dr. Buss and you think about the Showtime Lakers and the Lakers girls
02:52and everything that was about the glitz and the glamour and the winning ways of the L.A. Lakers
02:57and Pat Riley and Magic Johnson and Kareem and James Worthy
03:02and then Jerry West bringing in Kobe and Shaq and everything that transpired.
03:08And then, of course, Jeannie Buss takes over and she had to wrestle the team away,
03:14and this matters here, from her, and I'll say it, dopey, inept brothers
03:20who were completely clueless and an embarrassment to professional sports and to their father's great name.
03:29And in 2017, Jeannie had to have a coup, if you will, and take the team away from the Buss
03:37brothers
03:38and the rest of the Buss siblings because they were completely inept and had no idea what they were doing.
03:44And that's important here as it brings us to the day's events from yesterday
03:49because clearly the other Buss siblings are out for revenge
03:55and want to sell their remaining shares, the 17.8%,
04:00because even with the sale, and whether it's the Buss family to Walter
04:04and Walter to Iger and Kushner, Jeannie going to remain
04:09as the governor of the Lakers through 2030, and that was part of the deal.
04:15But now, with Mark Walter being investigated here,
04:19and this is kind of a big deal,
04:21and he sells poof out of nowhere to Iger and Kushner last week in the middle of the night,
04:29you know, now you have everything up in arms and chaos,
04:32and you have no idea what's going to happen next.
04:36And you have the Buss family going to have to fight and battle and court,
04:40and, you know, right now you're going to have new owners with Kushner, with Iger,
04:45and Walter, who's being investigated, also going to get rid of,
04:49he's going to have to sell his shares in Chelsea, also owns the Dodgers.
04:53We're talking about potential tax fraud when it comes to Walter.
04:57I mean, it's crazy.
04:59It felt like a year ago, this team, Lakers' ownership, headed in the right direction.
05:04So, look, it's just the wrong time.
05:08There's no good time for this, right?
05:10And obviously, again, I don't want to sit here and turn Dr. Buss into someone that he was or was
05:17not.
05:17You knew the good, you knew the bad.
05:19You know, it was a mom-and-pop operation.
05:21You knew everything about Dr. Buss, and he was obviously revered by Lakers fans,
05:27cherished by Lakers fans forever.
05:30Now, there's a spot in a situation.
05:32LeBron leaves.
05:34I think the Lakers did better in terms of their roster around Luka Doncic.
05:39You know I love that Kessler move and the ensuing three, four other signature moves for the Lakers in this
05:45offseason.
05:45But now, ownership issues.
05:48And you're going to have distractions.
05:50And you're going to have questions about Ron Palenka and J.J. Redick.
05:55And Luka Doncic has to be looking sideways at the situation.
05:58And I want to stress again, because this sale last week came out of thin air, right?
06:04I mean, you had Iger and Kushner.
06:06They were rumored and attached to the Vegas NBA expansion team.
06:10There was no smoke.
06:12There was no buzz.
06:13There was nothing around the Lakers even being up for sale.
06:17Then, bam, you see what transpired.
06:19So, now, if you're a Laker fan, you're kind of looking sideways.
06:23All right, you get over the shock.
06:24You get over the awe of last week, everything that transpired.
06:27Jeannie will still be there.
06:28And then, bam, everything that happened yesterday adds to this.
06:33Which means, when Rob Palenka talks to the press and, you know, training camp hits, it's not going to be
06:38about, you know, signing Kessler to that contract.
06:41It's not going to be about, you know, who's in, who's out, and life for the Lakers post-LeBron.
06:46It's going to be about this.
06:49About ownership.
06:50And J.J. Redick's going to be answering questions.
06:53And Luka Doncic is going to be answering questions.
06:55And the Lakers, who have to deal with enough on a daily basis in that media market, which is obviously
07:02it's all Lakers all the time, and it's a signature franchise, it's signature players on the team, this is not
07:09what the Lakers need.
07:10This is not what the fans need.
07:12Because this, if you have followed the bus kids, you understand this is not going away.
07:18I mean, you have the blind leading the ignorant, leading the asinine.
07:21That's what's going on here.
07:23So, it's a lot of he said, she said right now.
07:27They're going to fight in court when the Lakers should be fighting on the courts to make sure that they
07:33get home playoff games in 2026, 2027.
07:37So, buckle up.
07:38I feel terrible for the Lakers fans because you guys understand history, tradition, what it means for the purple and
07:47gold and representing Los Angeles,
07:49and what Showtime Lakers and the bus family Lakers all about.
07:53You know, there was a moment, obviously, where Mark Walter and his Lakers, you felt like because of the Dodgers,
08:00this was going to be a great vision for the future.
08:03Now, tax fraud allegations, and the feds are looking into it, the sale.
08:08And, by the way, I think Iger and Kushner could be fantastic owners.
08:13Let me say that for the record.
08:15I think there is a real chance that this ownership group could eventually be outstanding.
08:21But it is interesting when Bob Iger had the world exclusive with our guy, Kobe Price, from the California Post.
08:31And he referenced, in terms of Jeannie Buss, you know, quote, unquote, if things change.
08:37You know, let's see if they change.
08:39And he was, you know, talking and giving Kobe the exclusive on everything going on with Jeannie and whether or
08:45not the bus family and Jeannie was going to stay in her role.
08:47And it was one little line, and we'll talk to Kobe about this, if things change.
08:54Well, it's officially all changed.
08:57Chaos, nightmare, just as bad as it gets from a Laker perspective.
09:03Buckle up, because who the hell knows what's going to happen next when it comes to ownership in L.A.
09:08Meanwhile, in Clipperland, ESPN yesterday reported that the NBA has found no evidence showing that L.A. Clippers owner, Steve
09:16Ballmer,
09:16funneled money through the team sponsors to pay Kawhi Leonard in order to circumvent the salary cap.
09:22This is in contrast to the lengthy reporting that our guy Pablo Torre has done on this story.
09:27Pablo Torre shared his thoughts on the latest in this saga.
09:32I want to introduce another line from this article that people I don't think are making enough of a deal
09:38about.
09:38And it's this, quote, in recent days, both sides have been negotiating a resolution to the investigation, end quote.
09:48And I say this just because this is typically not how investigations work, whether in the criminal justice system or
09:54in journalism, right?
09:56The subject of the investigation does not get to negotiate with the group that is doing the investigating what the
10:06outcome is and what really happened here.
10:08But in this case, Steve Ballmer, the richest owner in American sports, has been negotiating a resolution to the investigation
10:15behind the scenes, according now to ESPN.
10:19So this is a complete and utter disaster as well.
10:23And Pablo Torre, who is a terrific journalist, has been all over this.
10:28And spoiler alert, whenever the NBA gets around to an official ruling, Pablo Torre is going to have more.
10:36And Pablo Torre is going to investigate his ass off and have even more information that the NBA or anyone
10:44else involved wants public.
10:45I want to go back for a second to my original take on everything that transpired with Kawhi Leonard and
10:53Steve Ballmer and the Clippers and everything illegal, circumventing the salary cap, everything that transpired.
11:01There is no doubt in my mind that Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers and Steve Ballmer are all guilty.
11:09There is no question about it.
11:11Pablo Torre's reporting on this has been absolutely superb.
11:15The second, the Clippers and the Raptors consummated the trade that is now on hold, that should have been the
11:25end of this story.
11:27And when I say the end, that means at that moment, the NBA had a get-out-of-jail card.
11:34Even if Pablo Torre was going to continue to investigate, it was over.
11:39The Clippers don't need to be punished.
11:42You want to take away a draft pick, you know, let other teams know you can't do this, fine.
11:47You can't fine Steve Ballmer because he'll just pay it.
11:51It's, you know, money you find in your couch cushions, right?
11:55You don't need to fine him.
11:57Not every investigation is kosher.
12:01You can take a look at, I'll give you a couple of quick examples.
12:06Spygate, NFL, eradicating tapes.
12:10People will feel good, bad, and different about that.
12:12It was what it was.
12:14It is what it is.
12:16We can talk about the Astros cheating scandal in Major League Baseball.
12:21I have monster issues with Rob Manfred.
12:24How he handled that was what it was, is what it is.
12:30And it was a poor ruling, and it happened, and he let everything, Manfred, Goodell with Spygate,
12:38they were decisive, had a ruling, and if the court of public opinion wanted to yell and scream
12:43and bitch and moan and go to social media, so be it.
12:47Adam Silver messed up by letting this thing linger, because the Clippers already lost.
12:56They signed Kawhi Leonard.
12:58They had to trade for Paul George.
13:01They gave the Oklahoma City Thunder a dynasty with SGA and all those picks,
13:07and the Clippers remained the biggest punchline in L.A., in the NBA, in sports.
13:14An irrelevant, unmitigated disaster.
13:18The biggest gift of all, and Adam Silver decided to punch a gift horse in the mouth,
13:23which is not exactly the right way to handle it.
13:25When Kawhi goes back to Toronto, it's over.
13:30Just say you investigated, and you have, casually, let's be honest here,
13:35and you can't find any evidence, and I support ESPN and their reporting from yesterday.
13:42NBA releasing that statement was a pathetic joke, an absolute disgrace.
13:46Adam Silver embarrassed himself.
13:49You needed to rule something, and just say you had nothing,
13:54because Kawhi was leaving Los Angeles.
13:57Let Pablo Torre do all the podcasts, all the reporting in the world.
14:03It's over.
14:04Kawhi Leonard is not going to be welcome back in L.A.
14:07He's going to Toronto, should have never left in the first place.
14:11Instead, now we're waiting.
14:13I mean, I feel bad for, seriously, Kawhi, Grady Dick, any other player who was involved in that trade.
14:19I feel bad for the Raptors.
14:22The general manager, the coach, a great young core, anyone who's trying to sell tickets in that sales department,
14:30parents in Toronto who want to know if they can buy tickets for this upcoming season,
14:35want to know if they can buy their kids a Kawhi Leonard jersey.
14:41It's embarrassing.
14:42Look, I say this as a Knicks fan, if Kawhi Leonard is on the Toronto Raptors,
14:48they are absolutely a threat to beat the Knicks, to beat LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers,
14:54and win the Eastern Conference and potentially win a championship.
14:58We are talking about a sensational ball player, someone who's already won in Toronto
15:05and obviously coming off of a terrific, terrific season.
15:08And you look at Kawhi last year, he was remarkable.
15:12And he was back to being the two-way superstar that he's always been throughout his incredible career.
15:19So I look at this as a complete and utter PR nightmare, a fiasco.
15:25The trade should have been the end of it.
15:27We said as much on Shine Time.
15:29That was a blessing.
15:32And Adam Silver, who has no idea what he's doing, completely fumbled.
15:38He had a golden opportunity by Kawhi getting traded.
15:43Now, everyone's waiting.
15:45Everybody's waiting.
15:47You know, the schedule just came out.
15:49We can't even talk about the NBA schedule
15:52because it's being trumped and superseded here by nonsense and drama created by the NBA.
16:01So this is a terrible job by Adam Silver.
16:04Terrible job.
16:05So what I would do, and I'll go back to that original ESPN report from yesterday,
16:10is I would do nothing.
16:13Let people with platforms and shows and social media just be critical.
16:18Let Pablo Torre continue to investigate anything.
16:21And that should have been done from the NBA standpoint in July.
16:27Because Kawhi's done.
16:28He's not a Clipper.
16:30He's not in Los Angeles.
16:31Let him go to Toronto.
16:34Instead, you can't even get this part right.
16:37What a complete and utter fiasco.
16:41Joining me right now to discuss everything that is happening
16:45with the Lakers and the Clippers,
16:48California Post superstar, reporter, our guy, the great Kobe Price.
16:56Kobe, how are you, my friend?
16:58I'm doing even better with that introduction.
17:00That's incredible.
17:00I appreciate it.
17:01I appreciate you.
17:02Listen, you are the best, my friend.
17:04I want to go in reverse order here.
17:06And I want to start with what we were just talking about with the Clippers.
17:09Because, listen, this whole thing is a mess.
17:13It's a bad look.
17:14I think the NBA had a way to kind of get out of this.
17:18And, frankly, they dropped the ball on it.
17:21What are you hearing on the latest when it comes to Kawhi Leonard,
17:25the Clippers, the Raptors, and the NBA investigation?
17:29I mean, I love what you were saying in your segment right there.
17:32Just in terms of, you know, I reached out to the league myself because, you know,
17:36they did mention in their statement after the ESPN report came out.
17:39And, you know, they said there were, I think, I forget the exact phrasing,
17:42but they mentioned there were inaccuracies, right, in the story.
17:45So I reached out to the league and I asked, okay, what exactly are the inaccuracies?
17:49Because it wasn't just like a five-sentence report.
17:51It was a pretty lengthy story.
17:52So what exactly are you basically contesting?
17:55Didn't hear back from most people I reached out to.
17:59And I think, honestly, at this point, just kind of like we were saying,
18:02it's a bad look for the league on a multitude of fronts.
18:06This Clippers-Kawhi, you know, situation is an issue on its own.
18:11But I've said this before.
18:13This is also an integrity of the league problem.
18:16And it's not just this.
18:18I mean, I know we'll talk about the Lakers later,
18:20which I don't think that's as much of an integrity of the league problem.
18:23But we're not that far removed from Jontae Porter getting banned from the league
18:27because after an investigation that revealed that he leaked confidential health information to gamblers
18:33and then limited his own playing time for prop bets, right?
18:35We also have the Terry Rozier ongoing situation, nothing long ago.
18:40These are situations that are, again, compromising the league's integrity.
18:46And that's the most important thing that the league,
18:48one of the most important things that the league can have.
18:50Because if the league doesn't have the trust of the public, of the fans, of, you know, of stakeholders,
18:57then what do you truly have?
18:58So at least as of right now, I mean, again, the ESPN report came out.
19:02It is what it is.
19:03Obviously, the investigation, the other troubling part about right now is,
19:07is the investigation ongoing or is it closed?
19:10You know, the league's coming out and making statements.
19:14But why, and even to your point about, I think you had, you know, you had Pablo Torre,
19:20you know, the clip from him.
19:22Where are they at in terms of the investigation?
19:24Adam Silver spoke in Las Vegas during Summer League.
19:26He made it sound like this could go on for a little while.
19:30But how are you able to say, you know, there's, what's going to come out of the investigation
19:35if certain determinations haven't been made?
19:38So that's also confusing a little bit.
19:39Maybe I'm misunderstanding and I'll take that.
19:41But there has been a troubling communication gap from the league.
19:46It's almost like at a certain point, they should just say,
19:49hey, we're not going to comment on it regardless until everything's done.
19:52Or we will comment on it in the form of sanctions or non-sanctions.
19:57We'll comment on it at the end.
19:58They're commenting or there's things being said during the process,
20:02which to me is troublesome as well.
20:04Yeah.
20:06I think you nailed it.
20:07And it didn't have to be this chaotic and this confusing.
20:10And, you know, the league basically had a mulligan with the trade
20:13and they should have ruled right then and there,
20:16even before Summer League started.
20:18Because the minute Adam Silver starts talking,
20:20then things get really out of control.
20:22I want to go to the Lakers.
20:24And, you know, first and foremost, let's go back to last week.
20:28Did you see this original sale coming?
20:30Because I was absolutely blindsided by it.
20:33Take us through your reaction, what you heard,
20:37what ultimately you were able to unearth after the sale
20:40with Iger, Kushner, Walter.
20:44Yes.
20:44I mean, to answer your original question, no.
20:46I'll be honest.
20:47I did not see this sale coming.
20:49It did really come out of left field.
20:51And I think, you know, speaking with Bob Iger specifically,
20:53it makes a lot of sense.
20:54This was something that, you know, Bob Iger and Josh Kushner,
20:58for people who don't know, they were pursuing the potential Las Vegas,
21:02the NBA's potential expansion to Las Vegas.
21:04And they were one of the main, you know, main ownership tandems,
21:08ownership groups that were, you know, that could have secured
21:12ownership of the Vegas team.
21:13And, you know, and Bob Iger told me this on the record, you know,
21:17they got basically word that Mark Walter could be potentially selling.
21:21And Josh Kushner made a call to Mark Walter,
21:24and they really worked it out in the matter of over a weekend,
21:27within three-ish days,
21:30to find an agreement for Mark Walter to sell the Lakers to Josh Kushner
21:35and Bob Iger at a valuation, a historic valuation of $12.5 billion.
21:40So all that being said, a lot I didn't know.
21:44And there were a lot of people within the organization,
21:46also outside throughout the league, who had no clue this was coming.
21:49So once Ramona Shelburne, my VSP, and kudos to her for breaking the story,
21:53puts that out, I mean, for me, it was, you know, time to work,
21:56time to, you know, figure out what's going on.
21:57And, you know, you can have the conversation with Bob Iger,
22:00learn that, you know, a lot of this, in terms of capital,
22:05Thrive Eternal will be part of this deal as well,
22:08which is a company that Josh Kushner founded.
22:11There are limitations to just how much that entity can be involved.
22:16I believe it's about 20% of the purchase based off league rules,
22:21but it'll also be a lot of capital coming specifically from Josh Kushner's side.
22:25I know it's been reported, put out there, that he has a net worth around $5 billion.
22:29So he'll be, you know, probably the money part of it.
22:33And then you do have Bob Iger, where it's looking like, you know,
22:35once the dust settles, he'll be the one, Iger that is, you know,
22:39being most involved or more involved in the day-to-day operations of the Lakers.
22:44So your reporting is great.
22:46And you're right, you know, the godfather offer with Iger and Kushner,
22:51and they were rumored, reported to be in the mix for the Vegas expansion team.
22:55And they made an offer to Walter that he couldn't refuse.
22:59So you had that world exclusive, you reference it, with Bob Iger.
23:04We've talked about it on the show.
23:06And you asked him a great question,
23:08and it's even better of a question and answer now that we know
23:12what's going on with Jeannie and her siblings,
23:15about Jeannie staying in her role.
23:17And there was one little line, and I read it, and I thought about it,
23:23and then I said to myself, well, it's probably just a throwaway line.
23:26But it wasn't nothing when Iger said,
23:28if things change with regards to Jeannie.
23:33Take us through the conversation with Iger,
23:36how it relates to Jeannie,
23:38and what the hell happened yesterday with Jeannie and the bus family.
23:43Yeah, I know that specific, the entire quote,
23:46but then that specific part of the quote conversation,
23:49you know, cut a lot of eyeballs.
23:50And understandably so.
23:51I think, you know, context is important to note that,
23:53you know, he didn't specify what he meant by if things change,
23:56but, you know, reading between the lines,
23:59usually when teams, NBA teams are sold,
24:02there's an opportunity for the other, you know,
24:05because usually it's very rare for an NBA team or any sports franchise
24:08to be 100% owned by a certain person, an entity, a group, right?
24:13So typically you have minority owners, stakeholders, shareholders in the organization.
24:18A lot of times when a majority owner,
24:21a new majority owner comes through,
24:23there's an opportunity for the minority owners to sell their shares,
24:27sell their stakes of the franchise.
24:30So I don't want to put words in his mouth.
24:32Obviously, he said what he said within that quote,
24:35but I could imagine, you know, in the back of his mind,
24:38there has to be a, there's a potential,
24:41and there always is potential, you know,
24:42this is not just the Lakers, but any of the team,
24:44there's potential for the Buss family to sell.
24:47You know, they may be looking, you know, and we kind of see it,
24:49they may be looking to, you know,
24:51take advantage of this higher valuation of the Lakers.
24:54Maybe they'll want to sell.
24:55And if they do sell, that obviously would change G&E's position as governor.
24:59So then you keep that,
25:02and you look into what happened yesterday on Monday,
25:05and the siblings, you know,
25:07five siblings outside of G&E,
25:09they vote to sell the franchise,
25:10which in their positions makes a lot of sense.
25:15You know, you already sold a significant amount of the franchise
25:17or your stakes in the franchise,
25:19shares in the franchise last year made a lot of money.
25:22You can make even more money with this higher valuation.
25:25And then completely, you know,
25:27you move on from the franchise that quite frankly,
25:29that's caused a lot of,
25:31I would imagine a lot of stress,
25:33a lot of dysfunction within the,
25:35within the siblings or around the siblings.
25:38So that part,
25:40but then that's the part where, you know,
25:41we don't know because obviously,
25:42at least as of right now,
25:43Jeannie Buss still remains the Lakers governor.
25:45And after the letter,
25:47her sibling,
25:48excuse me,
25:49her attorney said to her siblings' attorneys,
25:51and it looks like,
25:52you know,
25:53there's a possibility where that's going to remain,
25:56remain the truth or remain the case beyond,
25:59you know,
25:59beyond today and beyond the eventual sale of the Lakers from Mark Walter to
26:05Josh Kushner and Bob Iger,
26:06because that still has not been made official and may not be for,
26:09for some time.
26:10Kobe,
26:10do you get a sense just based upon the people you've talked to in the last 24 hours,
26:15literally since the multiple reports yesterday,
26:18any idea we could talk about legalese?
26:21We could talk about the nature of the bus family.
26:24How is this going to play out with the buses?
26:28Yeah.
26:28I mean,
26:28that's something that I'm still trying to get a better handle on myself.
26:31I mean,
26:31there's a possibility that this could be taken to court.
26:34You know,
26:35one part that that was important amongst many was that,
26:38you know,
26:38part of what was being asked is that the siblings recognize Jeannie Buss as the,
26:43as the controlling owner.
26:45I think that was the exact phrase in the use,
26:47controlling owner,
26:48you know,
26:48you say governor of the Lakers.
26:51And to basically,
26:52you know,
26:53retract the votes or basically retract the sale.
26:55And,
26:55you know,
26:55acknowledge that Jeannie hasn't approved of this.
26:58And the argument that Jeannie's lawyers making is that the siblings don't have the power to execute this sale.
27:06And the siblings' argument is that there was a tag along clause when they sold the team to Mark Walter.
27:12And that gives them the power again with the trustees in which they could make the sale.
27:16But Jeannie's side or Jeannie's lawyer,
27:18excuse me,
27:19attorney's arguing that that that's not the case.
27:22And citing a 2017 court order,
27:25which basically,
27:26you know,
27:26I'm trying to take this,
27:28this legalese,
27:29this court information and change it to plain English,
27:31basically saying that,
27:33um,
27:34the purpose of this,
27:35of all of this is to make sure that Jeannie remains,
27:38you know,
27:38for her life remains in this position for the remainder of her life,
27:42unless there's another court order that essentially says otherwise.
27:45There has not been another court order that says otherwise.
27:48So from Jeannie's side,
27:50they're arguing that this is,
27:51this,
27:51this is still relevant.
27:52This is still,
27:53um,
27:54how it should be.
27:55And unless Jeannie,
27:56but essentially,
27:57unless Jeannie is voting and says it's time to sell the team,
28:01then the bus family part of it cannot be sold.
28:04All right.
28:05How about the Lakers on the court?
28:07I know there's a lot here.
28:08It's,
28:08it's,
28:09it's why because Kobe,
28:10I think the Laker fan is terrific.
28:12Seriously.
28:13I think that Lakers fans are smart.
28:15They're passionate.
28:16Look,
28:16I think the Lakers had a terrific off season.
28:18And I still think LeBron has a lot left in the tank.
28:20I think he's going to be great for Philadelphia.
28:22I like the way they built the Luka Doncic Lakers.
28:27And I think that's what they did.
28:29They built a team around Luka Doncic.
28:31And I'll give everyone involved credit for that.
28:33I think this roster,
28:35JJ Reddick can maximize when you look at his skillset.
28:38Now,
28:39obviously there's going to be chaos when you're doing your job with the
28:42California post.
28:43You're going to be asking Rob Palenka and JJ Reddick about ownership of the
28:46bus family and lawsuits.
28:48So how is this all going to impact the 2026,
28:512027 LA Lakers?
28:53Well,
28:54I mean,
28:54even if it's not from a roster standpoint,
28:56because the roster at this point is kind of filled out.
28:58Right.
28:58And the other thing about players,
29:00you know,
29:01players play,
29:02right.
29:03Coach is coach.
29:04For the most part,
29:05I was going to say general managers,
29:06general manage,
29:07but that doesn't fit as well.
29:09But that's,
29:10that's the point that actually is interesting.
29:13You know,
29:13again,
29:14players play coaches coach.
29:15What does this mean for Rob Palenka?
29:17Yep.
29:17You know,
29:17the architect essentially of this roster of the Lakers,
29:21you know,
29:22it'd be,
29:22it'd be helpful if some of this was,
29:23you know,
29:24sorted out before one of the most consequential off seasons for the
29:28Lakers in recent history.
29:29But at least from a,
29:31a,
29:31an encore standpoint,
29:33I mean,
29:33the roster seems kind of,
29:35kind of where it is right now.
29:36They have to let go of one player before the regular season starts.
29:39That that's not that stressful that,
29:41that that will kind of take care of itself.
29:43But where does Rob Palenka kind of sit in all of this?
29:45It felt like,
29:45we know what Jeannie Buss as governor,
29:48Rob Palenka security,
29:49the job security was higher just because,
29:51you know,
29:52the relationship between Jeannie and Rob,
29:55Jeannie has empower Rob over the course of basically almost a decade.
29:59Since originally hiring him,
30:02you know,
30:02as in his role under magic Johnson,
30:04I think that was a 2017,
30:06like that,
30:07and that relationship has grown.
30:08Obviously they go way back,
30:09you know,
30:09back when he was Kobe Bryant's agent,
30:11a long time agent.
30:11So that that's the,
30:13that's the impact that could be more felt.
30:14And then even beyond the actual on court product,
30:17because it was interesting enough is that what's today,
30:20August 18th,
30:22you know,
30:23the players,
30:23the Laker players,
30:24they're going to be going out to Slovenia,
30:26you know,
30:27very shortly.
30:28I'm saying maybe some of them have,
30:29I've left it for the Luka Doncic sponsored a mini camp out in,
30:32out in Slovenia.
30:33So I'm sure that would be a fun timeout,
30:35you know,
30:36wish to,
30:36you know,
30:37could be a final off some of those conversations,
30:38but there,
30:39there's a lot going on,
30:40but I feel you've mentioned Laker fans a lot,
30:44you know,
30:44Laker employees,
30:46not,
30:46and not the ones we're talking about,
30:47like the Rob Palenka's and,
30:49you know,
30:49but like the day-to-day employees,
30:52the people who just got hired by Mark Walter,
30:54or like people who they've had significant layoffs over the last,
30:58basically a year.
31:00And a lot of people still there who saw,
31:01you know,
31:02their bosses get let go or their friends get let go.
31:05You know,
31:05people they've bonded with and worked with for a while,
31:07get let go.
31:08You know,
31:09what does this mean for them?
31:10People are kind of the,
31:10the way that I would just kind of describe it to kind of put this in a
31:13bow.
31:13So the Lakers are kind of in a holding pattern right now,
31:16not from a roster standpoint,
31:17the roster is kind of figured out,
31:18but just a holding pattern in terms of what does the basketball operations
31:23look like in August,
31:252027?
31:26What does the business side look like in August,
31:292027?
31:30What is the ownership split look like in August,
31:332027?
31:33I'm just basically saying a year from now,
31:35the roster will kind of sort itself out.
31:37It's sorted out at least right now.
31:39And for the foreseeable future,
31:40but there are like day-to-day people,
31:42day-to-day operations that are kind of in a holding pattern.
31:46And until this ownership situation gets resolved,
31:50until this governor,
31:51governorship with Jeannie Buss gets resolved,
31:54I don't see that changing.
31:55Kobe, you're the best.
31:56Keep up the unbelievable work, my friend.
31:58We will keep reading and following on the California Post,
32:01and we'll talk to you again real soon.
32:03No, I appreciate you.
32:04Our guy, the great Kobe Price.
32:06Coming up on Shine Time,
32:07start spreading the news.
32:08The bad news always seems to follow the good
32:11for my New York Yankees.
32:13Out west, the Dodgers get a much-needed win,
32:16but two of their big-money acquisitions
32:18continue to struggle.
32:19And Pete Crow Armstrong makes baseball history
32:24against the Cubs' crosstown rival.
32:26To the Diamond, next on Shine Time.
32:30This is going to be the first time
32:31we're going to see you, Cole, and Freed
32:32all healthy in the rotation at the same time
32:34once you get back.
32:36How exciting of a development is that?
32:38I mean, that's great.
32:39You know, it'd be nice to have us all pitch together finally,
32:41and, you know, those guys are tremendous,
32:44and they've been great.
32:46So whenever my name gets called,
32:47I'm ready, and it'll be good to be back.
32:49What do you think this rotation stacks up
32:51against the rest of baseball with all of you guys?
32:52Yeah, it's pretty good.
32:53You know, I'm very confident in our guys,
32:55and, you know, it's up there for sure.
32:58I mean, it sure would have been nice
33:00to have them all pitch together.
33:01Would it have been?
33:02That was Yankee starter Carlos Rodon.
33:04Great news.
33:05Going to return to the rotation
33:07and pitch for the Yankee side of Baltimore.
33:10Unfortunately, the gang's not all here
33:12because after it was announced
33:14that Rodon was going to be the starter tonight
33:16and come back to the bigs,
33:19Max Freed no longer in that rotation
33:22on the injured list again
33:24because of that bone bruise in his left elbow.
33:28Are you kidding me?
33:30This is the same injury to Freed
33:33from earlier this season
33:34when he missed about two months.
33:36He came back.
33:37He's made five starts.
33:39ERA under two.
33:41Pitched well last week.
33:42Didn't have any run support.
33:43He pitched well against Seattle.
33:45And now this?
33:48Damn!
33:49This really pisses me off
33:51because I was like Carlos Rodon.
33:54I was excited to say it.
33:55The Yankees are a mess on offense.
33:58The American League stinks.
34:00And the Yankee pitching
34:01when everyone's healthy is elite.
34:04Like, it's not hyperbole to say
34:06Yankees one through four
34:08is the best in baseball
34:10when everybody's healthy.
34:11The fact that they can't even have a day
34:14where they're all healthy together,
34:16man, that's not good.
34:18Now, it sounds like Freed
34:20will be back at some point
34:21before the playoffs,
34:22but it does make me nervous,
34:24obviously,
34:25that it's the same injury.
34:27I'm enthused to see Rodon.
34:29I'm thrilled that he's going to be
34:30on the bump tonight
34:31for the Yankees
34:32going up against the Baltimore Orioles.
34:34But, man, I just need
34:37Schlittler and Rodon
34:39and Cole and Freed
34:41all together
34:42because the Yankees can't hit.
34:45And the Yankees won on Sunday,
34:48and I give the Yankees credits,
34:50you know, after Ben Rice
34:51had that awful error in the ninth
34:53and you saw Ben Rice
34:55hit that home run
34:56and redeem himself
34:57in extra innings.
34:58You know, you felt like
35:00hopefully the Yankees,
35:01you know, good things could happen.
35:02Yankees scored six runs
35:05in three games.
35:07Six runs in three games
35:09against the Blue Days
35:10and lost that series.
35:11I want you to look
35:12at the nuggets of futility
35:13for the Yankees on offense
35:14ever since Aaron Judge
35:16went on the injured list.
35:19This is about as bad as it gets.
35:22No judge, no execution.
35:25Yankees' offensive ranks
35:27since June 2nd
35:28are flat-out offensive.
35:31I mean, look at this.
35:32OPS, average, on-base percentage,
35:35slugging percentage,
35:36runs per game,
35:37all bottom of the barrel.
35:40And it's kind of crazy
35:41when you take a look
35:42at the standings
35:43for the American League East.
35:45I mean, all of a sudden,
35:47the Baltimore Orioles
35:49are alive.
35:50Not alive and well.
35:51They're three games under
35:53when you take a look
35:54at 500.
35:55But the Blue Jays and the Orioles
35:58are all still alive
36:01for the final wild-card spot
36:02with basically everybody else
36:04in the American League.
36:06And Baltimore has played
36:07really well.
36:08Baltimore has played well.
36:09Recently just played well
36:10against first place
36:11in the AL East Tampa.
36:13So it'd be nice to see
36:14the Yankees have the ability
36:16to go out and find a way
36:18to win this series.
36:19But, man,
36:21the Yankees' offense
36:22is impossible to watch.
36:23You look at their approach,
36:25it's disgusting and disgraceful.
36:28They're wasting all these gems.
36:30I mean, the fact that, you know,
36:32Weathers didn't even get a win
36:33on Sunday
36:34and eventually the Yankees
36:35won the game,
36:36you know, freed last week.
36:37I mean, Aaron Judge,
36:39we need you back
36:40in the worst possible way.
36:41This Yankee offense
36:43is brutal, awful,
36:45offensive to the senses.
36:47Ah, just an absolute
36:49awful time here
36:50in terms of watching this team.
36:52Stanton's not even close.
36:53Bellinger, at least,
36:54is on the verge
36:55of starting a rehab assignment.
36:57But losing Max Fried,
36:59the strength of this team.
37:01I mean, it's supposed to be, right?
37:03Without Judge and Bellinger
37:04and Stanton,
37:05the starting pitchers
37:07and Bednar.
37:08The fact that you can't
37:10even get great news
37:11at the end of the day,
37:13man, that's rough stuff
37:15if you're a Yankee fan.
37:16Dodgers got two home runs
37:17from Shohei Itani last night
37:19and crushed the Rockies
37:2111-5 to get a much-needed win.
37:24Now, after the game,
37:25Dave Roberts, the manager,
37:27faced more questions
37:29about more of L.A.'s
37:31other big-money stars.
37:35With Kyle Tucker,
37:36you'd given him
37:36a mental day off.
37:37Just when you look at
37:38whether it was the air
37:39in the outfield,
37:40does it start to feel like
37:41things are kind of
37:42compounding on him?
37:43Or how are you seeing him
37:44just handle the frustrations
37:46like a game like today
37:47for him?
37:48He's frustrated.
37:49Certainly, you know,
37:51the play on right field,
37:52there's indecision
37:54and catching a baseball
37:55at your ankles
37:57kind of speaks to
37:58kind of where his head
37:59is at right now.
38:00It's not from lack
38:02of effort, care.
38:03It's just kind of right now,
38:04I think that, you know,
38:06he's kind of fighting.
38:07So, we've got to
38:08keep supporting him
38:09and, you know,
38:12that's what we've got to do.
38:13We've got to keep
38:13supporting him.
38:15So, Shohei Otani
38:16hits a couple of home runs.
38:18Blake Snell wins
38:19his first game of the year.
38:21Crazy but true.
38:23And he looked great
38:23last night.
38:24But no Dodger fan
38:26is celebrating anything
38:28or is this happy,
38:29happy, joy, joy
38:30because Kyle Tucker
38:32and Edwin Diaz
38:33continue to just
38:34absolutely look atrocious.
38:37And look at these
38:38nuggets of futility here.
38:40Kyle Tucker was
38:420 for 5 last night.
38:46He's 0 for 24
38:47over his last seven games.
38:50Kyle Tucker didn't get a hit
38:53in the Monster Series
38:54against Milwaukee
38:56and the Amazing Dodgers fans
38:58were rightly booing him.
39:00Edwin Diaz was in
39:02mop-up duty last night.
39:04Just get him some work.
39:05And he allowed
39:06three runs.
39:07It wasn't even a save
39:07situation.
39:09His ERA on the season
39:12is 12th.
39:14That is a complete
39:15and utter disaster.
39:18The Tucker one, to me,
39:20is the biggest deal, though,
39:21because you heard
39:22Dave Roberts talk about it.
39:24He can't hit.
39:25He also can't field.
39:27And he is completely
39:29clueless at the plate.
39:30He's just a liability
39:32on defense.
39:34Go back to the Cubs series
39:35when they got swept
39:36after they got swept by the
39:37Red Sox a couple of weeks
39:38ago.
39:39And he botched that ball
39:40that Bregman hit in the
39:41outfield, and that led to a
39:42run.
39:43And now you see Kyle Tucker,
39:44he dropped the fly ball in the
39:46Milwaukee series.
39:47And he didn't know what the
39:48hell was going on last night
39:49and dropped the fly ball.
39:50Didn't know if he should go in,
39:51go out, if he should turn his
39:53glove this palm up, palm down,
39:55catch it on.
39:55He was all over the map.
39:57And Edwin Diaz, listen,
40:00I don't want to see Timmy.
40:01I don't want to see the
40:02trumpet.
40:03I don't want to hear the damn
40:05song.
40:06This is a complete and utter
40:07mess if you're a fan of the
40:08Dodgers.
40:09So even when the Dodgers win
40:11and they needed a win,
40:1311-5, and again, this is a
40:15sub-500 baseball team since
40:18July 1st.
40:19Sub-500 baseball team, a bad
40:22baseball team.
40:23Even in a win where Otani
40:25does his thing, Blake Snell
40:27inspires, and you can start
40:29thinking about Snell pitching
40:30now in October baseball, Tucker
40:33and Diaz just kind of, you'll
40:36watch these guys perform on the
40:38heels of the offseason.
40:39And by the way, my hands up.
40:42I was obsessed with both these
40:44moves for the Dodgers.
40:45I was wrong.
40:47They were wrong.
40:48And right now, you can't find
40:50any reasons to trust either one
40:52of these guys.
40:53Seriously.
40:54I know what Diaz did with the
40:55Mets, and it was brilliant, and
40:57it was breathtaking.
40:58Kyle Tucker is a five-tool player.
41:00Right now, he has no tools.
41:03No feel, no clue, atrocious in
41:06any way.
41:07He is a very expensive hood
41:10ornament and liability.
41:12And Dave Roberts, whenever he
41:14talks to the press, he is
41:15completely at wit's end right
41:17now, with both these guys not
41:19holding up their ends of the not
41:21so much a bargain when you take a
41:23look at their contracts.
41:25Kyle Tucker's former teammate,
41:27our guy Pete Crowe Armstrong,
41:28having the opposite kind of season.
41:30Last night, how about this?
41:32Start of the game against the
41:34White Sox, first pitch he saw from
41:35Luis Castillo hit his fifth leadoff
41:38home run of the season.
41:39And then ended it with his first
41:43ever walk-off home run of the big
41:46leagues.
41:47No, that was fun.
41:49That was my first career walk-off
41:51home run.
41:53So that's fun to note.
41:56But, you know, Nico ties it up for
42:00us, or he doesn't tie it up for us,
42:03and I don't get that chance.
42:05So how about that?
42:06PCA with a walk-on and a walk-off.
42:09I mean, and we, me, the show,
42:12we've been ahead of the curve on
42:13PCA over Shohei Otani for the
42:15NL MVP.
42:16We made this point that you can't
42:18spell MVP without PCA in the
42:21middle of July.
42:23And Otani's not pitching, so you
42:26can't say that he's the MVP.
42:29So you look at what he did
42:31yesterday.
42:32By the way, White Sox-Cubs, as
42:35entertaining a game as you could
42:36have in the Chicago Energy last
42:38night, it was awesome.
42:40You look at PCA on the bases.
42:42You look at PCA in the field.
42:4430 homers, 30 steals.
42:46I mean, the guy is unbelievable.
42:49What a day last night.
42:50What a season.
42:51The Cubs, to me, are a force and a
42:53factor when it's all said and done
42:55here for the postseason.
42:57To win a round or two, I think that
43:01Pete Crowe Armstrong is just
43:02incredible to watch.
43:04He is an MVP on every single level.
43:07He deserves the award.
43:09Basically, if you go to DraftKings,
43:11they're even right now in terms of
43:13the favorite.
43:14I live for Otani.
43:16I invented the Otani bandwagon.
43:19No one appreciates Otani in history
43:21more than me.
43:22I don't even think it's close this
43:24season in terms of PCA MVP.
43:27The AP preseason top 25 was released
43:30yesterday with Ohio State ahead of
43:33Oregon at the top spots.
43:34Is that the right order?
43:35And what will Indiana have to say
43:37about being number six?
43:38Come back on Shine Time.
43:41Welcome back to Shine Time.
43:43The Ohio State Buckeyes atop the AP
43:46preseason top 25 release yesterday,
43:49followed by Oregon, Georgia, Notre
43:51Dame, and Texas.
43:52Defending champion Indiana is at six,
43:55followed by the team that they beat
43:56for the title of the Miami Hurricanes.
43:58So the Big Ten is the top two teams.
44:01SEC teams received zero first place
44:05votes, but the SEC leads all
44:08conferences with nine teams in the
44:11top 25.
44:13So, a couple of things here.
44:15Number one, preseason college
44:18football, college basketball polls
44:21mean nothing.
44:23Never have, never will.
44:24Now, they mean even less because of the
44:28transfer portal and NIL.
44:30But, obviously, you look at something
44:33like this, and it's significant when
44:36you take a look at the top 25.
44:38Because when you look at it, I think
44:41Oregon is the best team in the country.
44:43I think Ohio State is loaded.
44:45I think that Texas and Notre Dame,
44:49phenomenal.
44:49If I was doing a ranking, and we'll lock
44:52in our teams and our playoff teams,
44:54where we make all our picks officially
44:56as we get closer to the start of the season,
44:57I would rank it Oregon number one,
45:00followed by Texas, Ohio State, Notre Dame.
45:04I think LSU is a little low.
45:08I think that Lane Kiffin, say what you want
45:11about him, hell of a coach.
45:13And I think Lane Kiffin, with his new
45:16hand-picked quarterback at LSU,
45:18I think that it's going to be a terrific,
45:20terrific marriage.
45:21I think Alabama's too high.
45:23I think Alabama's going to be a disaster
45:26this year.
45:26I think, frankly, Lane Kiffin's too low
45:29at 11.
45:30I think that Ole Miss should be higher
45:33as forward team.
45:34You know, still got to remember,
45:35they have an incredible college quarterback
45:38who can certainly navigate the choppy waters
45:41here of the SEC.
45:43Indiana fascinates the hell out of me
45:46because, listen, Mendoza's no longer on the team.
45:50Cooper's no longer on the team.
45:52They're coming off of one of the great single seasons
45:55and out of the blue seasons
45:57in the history of college football.
46:00Signetti's a genius.
46:02I don't believe that Indiana is going to be
46:05an elite, great team.
46:07But I also know that you can't put anything
46:09past Signetti because he is just sensational
46:13when you take a look at X's and O's
46:15and bringing guys together.
46:17And he's got a coaching staff
46:18who's been together for a long time.
46:20But I'll tell you my favorite team
46:21in college football,
46:22and I want to stress this, Oregon.
46:24And Oregon has a tough schedule.
46:26But all these teams have to play Oregon.
46:30And I am planning on picking Oregon
46:33to win a championship.
46:34And the case for Oregon, listen,
46:37if you're looking for a team to back this year,
46:40you better have your ducks in a row.
46:42Dante Moore is an absolute stud.
46:44And I give him so much credit
46:46for realizing that it's smart for him,
46:49for the present, for the future,
46:51go back to school, play, get the experience,
46:54and then go to the NFL draft.
46:56This wasn't about Dante Moore avoiding the Jets.
46:59He wasn't ready.
47:00He just wasn't ready to be a pro.
47:02He is ready,
47:03and he had an unbelievable completion percentage
47:05last year.
47:06He is ready to be one of the signature quarterbacks,
47:09if not the best quarterback
47:10in all of college football this season.
47:13I think Dan Lanning, superb.
47:16All he does is win.
47:18Now, he's got to win the biggest games, right?
47:21That's a fair conversation
47:23of someone who loves Dan Lanning.
47:25But that's record.
47:26That winning percentage is off the charts.
47:29You take a look at the fact
47:31that they are returning dudes on defense,
47:34guys who you're familiar with,
47:35especially on the defensive line
47:38and the defensive backfield.
47:39You feel great about what you know
47:42about that defense for Oregon.
47:45So I believe that Oregon is the favorite
47:48for college football.
47:49When you look at that top 25,
47:52I count, and this is the beauty here
47:54of college football and where it is right now,
47:5610 to 12 teams that could legitimately
48:00win a championship.
48:02Like, if Miami won a title,
48:04I wouldn't be surprised.
48:05If Georgia won a title,
48:07I wouldn't be surprised.
48:08We obviously give love to Notre Dame
48:10and to Texas.
48:12Sark's got to make sure he gets it done.
48:14You know, you can make the case,
48:16I would, that you look at Texas,
48:20they are the most talented team in the country.
48:22I think Texas, 1 through 53,
48:25they are the best team in college football.
48:28Sark needs to prove that he can handle success
48:31and expectations and prosperity.
48:33But I think college football,
48:35my enthusiasm for it, it's off the charts.
48:38I think Jeremiah Smith is going to be
48:40the Heisman Trophy winner.
48:41I think that already the one-man party,
48:43Arthur Smith, is going to help Ryan Day on offense.
48:46I think Julian Sands is going to have
48:47an outstanding season.
48:48I can't wait for the college football season.
48:52But wait, there's more.
48:54Although I'm a young player,
48:57you know, I think that I'm poised
49:03and I don't feel like I get really flustered
49:06from maybe big games and big moments
49:10and stuff like that.
49:11You know, I still made some mistakes out there
49:13and being able to learn from those
49:15and respond from those quickly
49:17and have my teammates kind of have my back
49:19whenever this did happen.
49:21That was good to see.
49:22Josh and Tip and Garrett and AD, man,
49:25and Brees, like, just the way that they kind of,
49:30you know, encouraged me pre-game,
49:32in between drives, during the game,
49:34during drives.
49:36That filled me with a lot of confidence.
49:40Man, if you're a Jets fan, you've got to love that.
49:42That was Cade Klubnik, the Jets rookie fourth-rounder,
49:44who got the start to their first preseason game
49:47this past weekend,
49:48and he looked the parts.
49:50I loved what I saw from Cade Klubnik.
49:53I loved him at Clemson.
49:55Now, I was wrong on Cade and Clemson last season.
49:59I want to say that for the record and honesty
50:01and full disclosure.
50:02But he wasn't 100%.
50:04The Clemson situation was a mess last year,
50:07and I love Mooji taking him in the fourth round,
50:10110 overall in the 2026 draft,
50:13for a couple of reasons.
50:14Number one, backup quarterback is a very important position
50:17in the NFL.
50:18And the Jets have a young backup quarterback
50:21who I believe unequivocally could be a starter.
50:26And you have to remember,
50:28the Jets have three first-round picks,
50:31three first-round picks in the 2027 draft.
50:33Now, a year ago, no one was talking about Fernando Mendoza
50:37as the number one overall pick,
50:38and he became unequivocally the guy,
50:40and I think he's going to be a phenomenal pro.
50:42So, we've got to see what happens.
50:44I think, you know, Dante Moore could be phenomenal.
50:47I think Arch Manning could be phenomenal,
50:49among others.
50:51Geno Smith will be the Jets' starting quarterback,
50:53and he should be.
50:55Love Geno Smith coming back to the Jets.
50:58But if Geno doesn't play well,
51:00or if he gets hurt,
51:01or if the Jets lose games,
51:05Cade's going to play.
51:06And if he plays well,
51:08then it gives the Jets options
51:10for doing different things
51:12when it comes to the 2027 draft.
51:14So, this was energizing.
51:17Because I do think there's a real...
51:19First of all,
51:19Klubnik's going to end up starting games this year.
51:21We'll find out how many,
51:22based upon wins and losses and circumstances.
51:24Remember my big prediction for the Jets this year.
51:26They're going to start 2-0.
51:27Beat Tennessee, beat Green Bay.
51:29So, I think the Jets are in position
51:31to get off to a really good start.
51:33But Cade Klubnik, you know.
51:35I raved about that pick.
51:37I thought that was a genius move.
51:39And to see him...
51:40It's preseason.
51:42You're not going to go nuts.
51:44Not going to overreact.
51:45But to see him play with the starters,
51:48play well,
51:49show that he's got moxie
51:51and makes every single throw.
51:53Yes, Jets fans should be excited
51:56about Klubnik.
51:57And who he is
51:58and what he represents.
51:59And the intelligence
52:00from the organization.
52:02Backup quarterback
52:03is an important position.
52:05Developing someone
52:06who can be your starter.
52:09Genius.
52:10Absolute genius here
52:12by the Jets.
52:13When was the last time you said that?
52:14Meanwhile,
52:15Ken Green avoided disastrous news
52:17on the injury front.
52:18Breeze Hall is expected
52:19to be ready for week one
52:20despite suffering a groin injury
52:24in practice on Monday.
52:27This counts as really good news.
52:31Breeze Hall is one of the best
52:33running backs in the NFL.
52:35We did our shy nine
52:36ranking the running backs.
52:37We put him for 2026,
52:39eighth on our list.
52:40And honestly,
52:41that might have even been too low.
52:43I think Breeze Hall is tough
52:44and speedy,
52:46physical,
52:46and I'm a big fan.
52:48Also,
52:49doesn't need to practice
52:51or play the rest of the preseason.
52:53Put him in bubble wrap.
52:54Get him ready for Robert Sala
52:56and the Tennessee Titans
52:57in week number one.
52:59This is terrific news
53:01for the New York Jets
53:02and for my guy,
53:03Breeze Hall.
53:04Speaking of running backs,
53:07the Giants made a move today.
53:10Veteran running back
53:11Najee Harris,
53:13one-year deal.
53:14I absolutely love
53:16Najee Harris joining
53:18the New York football Giants.
53:20I'm a big Najee Harris fan.
53:22Loved him in college.
53:23Loved him in Pittsburgh.
53:24Loved him with the Chargers.
53:26And I love him
53:27in a backfield
53:29that has Cam Scadaboo,
53:30Tyrone Tracy,
53:31and Devin Singletary.
53:33And I think
53:35that's when you look
53:36at what happened
53:37with Jackson Dart
53:38over the weekend
53:38and you saw Tracy
53:40just completely whiff
53:42on the block,
53:44you know what?
53:45This is John Harbaugh.
53:47This is John Harbaugh
53:48letting everyone
53:49in that room know
53:50if you can't block,
53:52you might not even
53:53make the team.
53:54Now,
53:54Harris,
53:55you know,
53:55needs to make sure
53:56that he's 100% healthy
53:57and he's ready to go,
53:58but all signs
53:59and indications
54:00are that that
54:01is absolutely
54:02positively going
54:03to be the case.
54:04I also think
54:05it's a message
54:06to Cam Scadaboo.
54:07Message to Cam Scadaboo
54:08in terms of
54:09at the end of the day
54:10making sure
54:11he doesn't do dumb things
54:13and make sure
54:14he stays healthy
54:14and make sure
54:15he's not doing
54:16backflips
54:17at the end zone
54:17or at Fanatics Fest.
54:19You know,
54:19Cam Scadaboo,
54:20I love him.
54:21Terrific player,
54:22tough as nails.
54:23He's just an outstanding
54:24energizer bunny.
54:26He needs to make sure
54:28that he's available
54:29for the New York
54:30Football Giants.
54:31You know,
54:32I like the Tracy pick
54:33and I think he's got talent.
54:35You can tell
54:36he's in
54:37John Harbaugh's
54:38doghouse.
54:39And I think,
54:40and I like Harris.
54:41I think he can play.
54:41I like them again.
54:42College,
54:43Pittsburgh,
54:44Chargers.
54:44And he wasn't
54:45100% healthy last year.
54:47I think,
54:48assuming he's healthy now,
54:49this is going to be
54:51a really good signing
54:52with a lot of upside here
54:54for the Giants.
54:55And remember,
54:56and this is important to me,
54:57I always look for
54:57these kind of clues.
54:59John Harbaugh
55:01coached against Harris
55:02for all those years
55:04in the bloodbath battles
55:06with Baltimore
55:07and Pittsburgh.
55:09So for John Harbaugh
55:11to say,
55:11I want Najee Harris
55:13on my team,
55:14that matters.
55:15He's not going to sign
55:17someone like Harris,
55:18I know it's August,
55:19to be a hood ornament.
55:21He's going to sign
55:22on the point
55:22and a purpose
55:23and a role.
55:24Maybe it's to move
55:25the chains.
55:25Maybe he can be
55:26the starting running back.
55:28Maybe it'll be
55:28some goal line situations.
55:30Maybe it's to light a spark
55:32and let Tracy know,
55:33you better make sure
55:34you pass protect
55:35and Jackson Dart
55:36doesn't get bludgeoned
55:38like he did
55:38over the weekend.
55:39So,
55:40this is terrific.
55:41And it's another example,
55:43not so minor example,
55:45of the John Harbaugh
55:47New York football giants.
55:48And I love that
55:49for Big Blue.
55:51That's the show.
