Forecasters expect a low chance of new tropical storms or hurricanes in the Atlantic for the rest of August, but new systems keep firing up in the Pacific.

00:00And as we take a look at the latest on Lala, here we have the primary Hawaiian islands.
00:04There are far smaller spits of land that are still Hawaiian real estate that kind of dot some of the
00:09Pacific out off to the west.
00:11But as we look at Lala, again, we've been dealing with this as a hurricane.
00:15Again, it ramped back up as we expected to regain its former glory as a hurricane, a nasty storm.
00:21And again, major impacts there in the big island from over the weekend.
00:25But you can see the eye has reformed here, and it is a healthier storm.
00:29Currently moving west, but it's going to take a hard right turn and begin to move dramatically north in latitude.
00:35You can see these tiny little spots of land here.
00:38It actually is Hawaiian real estate, well off to the west.
00:41And it's going to be sharply curving northward.
00:44Eventually, the inevitable, as it moves over northern waters here, it gets colder and the storm is going to lose
00:49its intensity.
00:50But we want to take you into other parts of the Pacific.
00:53So there's Lala, west of Hawaii, at least west of the primary islands.
00:56But we also have a red zone here, and a red zone off to the south of Mexico, and then
01:01a yellow zone even farther east, closer to Central America.
01:05We do expect to see more development out here.
01:07It's going to be active in the Pacific over the next few weeks here.
01:10Two areas likely to organize into named storms.
01:14Another one that may at the end of the month.
01:16And we'll have to keep an eye on this western one, as it may draw closer to Hawaii after organizing.
01:22I want to take you all the way into Africa, though.
01:24And here we are, you can see south of the Sahara, here we have these zones of convection.
01:30And this is what gives birth to these tropical waves that pull off the west coast of Africa and begin
01:36to enter the eastern Atlantic.
01:38And we're tracking a few of these tropical waves.
01:40One of these has a small chance of developing as it moves out to over the water eventually.
01:45It's still pooling west of Africa now.
01:47But that, among all the systems in the Atlantic, that's the one with the best chance for developing.
01:51And even that is a low risk.
01:53And that would begin to enter this cone or this zone here in which it might gain a little more
01:58traction as we step into the weekend.
02:00There is a lot of dry air out there, though, in the yellow.
02:03Lots of dry air northwest.
02:04You actually can see on the edge of the map we do have the bubble highlighted there for that tropical
02:08wave.
02:08But there's a notion of dry air to the west and, at this point, a low risk of any tropical
02:14impacts for the southeast or the Caribbean as we move through the end of the month of August, which is
02:19good news.
