00:00In Caracas, Venezuela's rehabilitation work is underway on the homes affected by the double earthquakes on June 24.
00:06Our colleague Leonardo Rieta has prepared a report on the matter.
00:11The Venezuela Rises Again plan continues on its course.
00:15Fifty families in La Rinconada neighborhood south of Caracas are benefiting.
00:20Work crews, together with neighbors, are repairing their homes,
00:23and masons are paying close attention to every detail in the finishing of the walls.
00:29We're working on 12 apartments here.
00:31We started with apartments 1, 2, and 3.
00:34We're now on apartments 45 and 6, which are on the first floor.
00:39And we're already moving on to the second floor with apartments 7 and 8.
00:44What are we doing?
00:46We're working on the partition walls at the beginning.
00:49We had to tear down about 23 walls around the ground floor and first floor.
00:54Why? Because the concrete blocks had already collapsed due to the impact of the earthquake.
00:59The blocks had shifted further apart.
01:02But they've already been rebuilt.
01:06In Caracas alone, more than 500 apartments have been delivered.
01:10And nationwide, 13 890 homes are being reconstructed by the Venezuelan government.
01:16Thank God they've repaired everything with the help of the work crew.
01:19They've been excellent.
01:20We can't complain.
01:22And we've all helped out in one way or another.
01:26Just as they've helped us so much, I'm really grateful.
01:29And I'm grateful on my own behalf.
01:35Progress of about 90%.
01:37And here, we're making progress little by little, as I've told you before.
01:42With the help of the neighbors and the homeowners association, we're very grateful.
01:47And as you've seen on your tour of the building, we've made significant progress.
01:54This couple, married for over 20 years, is watching the progress of the work.
01:58Their home is 95% renovated.
02:02The staff working here are highly skilled and very competent.
02:07And beyond that, they are not just workers, but very compassionate people.
02:13And the supply of materials is even better.
02:17Popular self-government has been the key to the restoration of the Omar Torrijos housing
02:21complex in downtown Caracas, which is home to about 266 families.
02:28In this self-managed project, it's a self-build initiative.
02:31The way it works is that the government and the city hall provide us with the materials.
02:36And as the spokesperson in charge of Tower B, I visit each of the owners' apartments and
02:41the affected units to deliver the materials.
02:43And they have their own masons and carry out the self-build using the materials provided
02:48by the government.
02:50We have been carrying out renovation work in the Omar Torrijos neighborhood for over a month.
02:56This work includes repairs to both the facades and interiors.
03:02We know that on June 24, due to the double earthquake, many of the homes and many families were affected
03:08by this event.
03:11This was no exception here.
03:13We have around 300 affected walls that have undergone a demolition process, of which we
03:21are already 70% of the way through rebuilding those walls, which means that overall, we're
03:28already about 65% complete.
03:31Being back home again is a source of satisfaction for the neighbors.
03:34I feel happy and content because I've returned to my little home.
03:39It was what I wanted most, my home.
03:44Because one is happy at home.
03:46The government's goal is to rebuild 4,000 homes by the end of 2026, in a report by Gustavo
03:52Flores and Leonardo Urieta, Telesur, Caracas, Venezuela.
