00:00I want to ask you about something AOC said over the weekend that you probably heard in an interview where
00:06she quoted council member Chi Osei, who once said on Twitter or X, woke one was crazy.
00:15And she was talking about it in response to questions about whether the left has some sort of, during that
00:26time, how she responds to some unpopular or controversial proposals on the left, like defund the police.
00:36And I wonder what you make of that.
00:38What do you make of that statement?
00:40Because you yourself have walked back defund the police.
00:44Do you think woke one was crazy?
00:49Look, I think that each person has a responsibility to tell New Yorkers, to tell Americans when they're running for
01:00office what they believe.
01:02And sometimes what you believe can change.
01:05It can develop.
01:06It can grow.
01:06And I know that there are some for whom they still believe in that.
01:10I've made very clear that I do not believe in defunding the police, that I will not be defunding the
01:15police.
01:15And that, to me, delivering critical public safety also looks like working with our police department, alongside many other partners.
01:24And we've seen over the first seven months of this administration what that can look like when we're talking about
01:29the fewest murders on record in New York City, the fewest shooting incidents on record in New York City.
01:35And that, to me, is how we measure a lot of our public safety.
