00:00Sitting here in Poets' Corner with memorials to hundreds of wonderful writers,
00:05it seems the perfect place to discuss the importance of children's literacy.
00:10And it's a subject very dear to my heart as an author of children's books,
00:13and I know your Royal Hine is something that you care about passionately.
00:16I've always had a passion for books, and books have been part of my life for so long.
00:23I started reading when I was very, very young with a father who was a fervent bibliophile.
00:30So from the age of two or three, he used to sit and read to us children,
00:35take us on wonderful adventures sort of all over the world.
00:39And I think I was bitten at that age, and from then I've just kept going,
00:45and I've got involved in a lot of literacy programmes and patronages.
00:52And I just feel very strongly that all children should be taught to read.
01:00Thank you very much.
