00:00Hello, hello, hello. Good evening everybody. Here we are, another Friday. Another Friday
00:07has just suddenly whooshed into view. I can't quite believe that it's Friday again. Well
00:13it is. And welcome to another Friday over here at HelloMag. Thank you very much, Hello
00:19Magazine, for having me. It's fabulous to be here again this Friday. So joining me this
00:25week for Hello Let's Gab, we have Sarah Calm, Vicky Patterson, and of course the snack attack
00:33queen herself, Melissa Hemsley. I know somebody's saying, where has the week gone? I'm actually
00:39not quite sure. It goes like that. It goes very, very fast. Also, can I just point out
00:46Lisu London. This is the most incredible shirt. And if you nominate somebody, you can win it
00:53over at my feed, which is at Gabby Roslyn. This was designed by really at Lisu London
00:59and it's silk and it's gorgeous and it's rainbow hearts. That's how tonight is all. It's all
01:05about rainbow hearts all the way. Here she is, Sarah Calm. Come on in. Let's get her in.
01:12And very soon, of course, she will win me as well. And Melissa Hemsley. Hello. Come on
01:19in. Come on in. Come on in. I've got to say happy birthday. But ladies, happy birthday
01:25to you. I love your spirit, Gabby. You are full of joy and you always make me smile. Happy
01:33birthday to you. Thank you. Look, I've got my pyjamas on. It's Friday night. I haven't
01:38even dressed up for you. You haven't. But I've got my poshest pyjamas on. This is what happens
01:43in lockdown. It's Friday night. What am I supposed to do? Oh, bless you and your pyjamas. Can we
01:48get a proper view of your pyjamas, please? Well, they are actually quite nice ones. My husband
01:53bought them for me for my 50th. So they've got pineapples on and it's very lovely soft
02:00cotton. I think he was just fed up of seeing me in this really old grey nightie that was
02:05running the wash. Yeah, I'm just an old t-shirt person. That's what I wear. I can't be doing
02:11with the bottoms. I can't be doing with pyjama bottoms. Do you wear the bottoms as well?
02:16I do, actually. I do. But now that I'm going through the menopause, I wear them obviously
02:21downstairs and then I take them off when I get into bed because it's too hot.
02:24I get claustrophobic legs. I don't like that. I like my legs to be so I'm one of those people
02:32that hangs my legs out of the duvet at night. I always have done since I was a child.
02:37You like a good airing on your legs. I really do. So how have you been? I mean,
02:43you've been, obviously Loose Women is back. Hurrah. It's lovely to have all of you ladies
02:48back. It feels like we're home. But also you've been cooking, you've been exercising,
02:56you've been keeping people up to date. Obviously the news, you've been very outspoken about the
03:00news and quite rightly, as we all should be as well. I don't know where to start with
03:05you. Where should we? Let's look. Let's get the news over with because actually I think
03:10it's something we really, really, really need to talk about. Black Lives Matters. And
03:15it's everywhere. And I think it's important that everybody talks about it.
03:20I think so. And, you know, I was born in this country and for me, racism and discrimination
03:28was something that was really close to my heart. I mean, even at university when I was 18,
03:32I did humanities. And my topic for my first dissertation was how does the Metropolitan
03:38Police Force teach against racism? And that was back, I'm 50 now, so that was back when
03:43I was 18, 19. And it's not because I just felt like we needed to integrate. People need
03:49to understand other people's cultures. And so I think for many, many people who have fought
03:55that cause now at the moment has arrived. But I do feel that after the movement and the
04:03demonstrations and people have been out on the streets, which is brilliant, you're raising
04:07awareness and it's great. I do believe at the end of the day, though, it will matter when
04:13decision makers, you know, create policy for housing, for education, for, you know, in the
04:20police force and all of those institutions where change needs to happen, we need better
04:25representation. And, you know, as a businesswoman, I've noticed that those companies who have
04:30great representation, they have great productivity because they can bring in a wider group of people
04:37and think like those communities and say, you know what, actually, that will work great
04:41for that community, but not sure about that. And it works like that. It's just about being
04:46inclusive. But I don't believe in violence. I don't believe in vandalism. I don't believe
04:51in doing it that way, because then that just really takes the cause back. This is about peaceful
04:56protest. I think this is about really getting to understand that black people around the world
05:03have been discriminated against. And that's got to stop completely. And the fact that it's
05:09now 2020. And this is not, you know, in some places, it's got better. But it is disgusting
05:17that we are still talking about this today, because it's still happening. And the more
05:21that people know about this, the better it really is. And it's got the conversation going.
05:26Yes, yes. And I also think, you know, it's also about every single community looking at
05:32itself, thinking, how can we make the lives of the disadvantaged better? Look, in white communities,
05:41you've got white working class lads who are underrepresented. They're lagging behind. So I
05:47think this is about Black Lives Matter. But I think it's making people really think, hold on a
05:52minute, we need to do more. If you're in a power of privilege, we need to do more to bring
05:59people
05:59up. Because you know what, I grew up, I'm a child of immigrant parents, I grew up on a council
06:05estate.
06:06And I know those people that helped me that opened that door for me that gave me a chance
06:10that believed in me. And now I'm living the life that I want. And, you know, my husband has his
06:17own
06:17business. And we do the same. We don't look at whether you went to Oxford or Cambridge, we're looking
06:22at are you a grafter? What you know, what is your merit? What what can you do? And I think
06:28it's about
06:28meritocracy, not the color of your skin. I absolutely agree. I 100% agree with you. And
06:33we have to look after people. And we just have to be kinder. And the reason that I love doing
06:39this
06:39at Hello Magazine, and I say this every week, is because their hashtag is something I believe
06:45passionately in, which is hashtag Hello to kindness. Yeah, I was part of that campaign.
06:50And I think, you know what, even look, kindness is, is, is the most important thing. It's what we
06:58human beings, it's our, it's what we're born with, you're born to be nice. And, and we have to
07:05reconnect with that. And I think, you know, lockdown, for many people have, have you tuned
07:09into that, you've seen the NHS clapping, you've seen, you've seen people giving to food banks,
07:15it makes you feel good. So why not feel good all the time? It's just about, and you know
07:20what the great thing doesn't cost a penny. No, it really doesn't. Be kind. It comes from
07:25afar. Yeah. Okay, so you're, you said that, you know, you're a businesswoman. Are we, I
07:30mean, your, your skincare, we saw you on there. It's just been around not that long, but we
07:35know so much about you. We really do. I want to talk about what we've watched you doing
07:40now. Yes. The cooking, which you, I know you want to talk about because you love it.
07:46Well, I love it. And again, you know, with lockdown, I mean, obviously there's so many
07:50other things that are going on with it, but for me, it's been a real time of self-reflection,
07:55of just taking some time out, enjoying and being grateful. I have a family, I have two kids,
08:02I have a hubby, you know, just reconnecting because we, my husband and I were ships in the
08:08night, you know, and I think for me, what's been lovely is reconnecting with my heritage
08:12through spices. And I do know everybody loves a Ruby Murray, don't they? But try and get my mates
08:19to make one at home. They're petrified with spices. So I've been trying.
08:23Yes, it is. Spices are a scary thing. Obviously, we've got Vicky Patterson on and she was on Master
08:27Chef. We've got Melissa Hemsley every week and she brings us all new herbs and spices. But
08:33you're right. People are slightly scared to make a curry and we just buy the ready-made curry mix.
08:38Exactly. Which to me is like, no, don't do that. You know, I was brought up with my mum. She
08:44just
08:44cooked something from nothing. But so yeah, so I've been really reconnecting and also giving people
08:49the opportunity to understand that, look, yes, I'm British, but I do have a heritage. And there's
08:54another side of me. That's what lockdowns allow people to see. Like I've invited them into my home
08:59and say, look, I know I'm opinionated and I'm gobby, but look, I can also cook a curry
09:03and exercise. And I can make homemade masks for you. It only costs 20p. Just get some coconut oil
09:11and some salt and a bit of lavender. And look, you've got homemade scrubs. And I think people
09:16have really appreciated it because I'm really conscious that in this time as well, people don't
09:20have a lot of money. And so what can you do at home that really helps you? So cooking was
09:26obviously
09:26the most natural thing for me to do. And I really educate people about spices. I've really enjoyed
09:32it. So my kids are my husbands. Let's talk spices. Yes. Let's talk spices. Which ones do you put
09:40together to have a regular curry that makes you just go, whoa, not makes you, doesn't blow
09:48your head off? Your head off. Amara, can you get me the garam masala, please? My daughter's
09:54here. So basically, look, you have to make the right tomato sauce. The sauce is everything.
10:01So you need to brown the onions, okay? And then you need turmeric. Love it. It's so good
10:08for you. You need a certain amount. Too much and your curry becomes bitter. Too little and
10:14you haven't got the flavor. The secret is Mama's homemade garam masala. And I can't even
10:21tell you the ingredients, but I bring her down from Nottingham to make me a massive
10:25batch to last me for about a year. She doesn't tell you what's in it?
10:28No, it's a secret. And she's literally written it down on a paper and she says, when I've
10:32gone, you can have it. But until, I wish you could smell this, but this is loads and loads
10:38of spices, freshly ground. And it's the garam masala that makes the difference. You know,
10:45an Asian, don't give me anything at Christmas. Just give me your homemade garam masala and
10:51this makes a difference. And then obviously you need chili flakes, garam masala, turmeric,
10:56chili flakes, and then salt and pepper. And that's it.
10:59Ginger? Some ginger?
11:01No, because the ginger is all in here. Oh yeah, but you need, sorry, garlic and fresh
11:05ginger. That's separate. But the dried spices is turmeric, chili, and garam masala. I'm going
11:11to send you some, Gabby.
11:12Well, Christian, who works on this, works at Hello and works on this move, he's now saying
11:17he thinks you need to sell it. Well, do you know what? Don't get this, listen, I'm already
11:23on that page, but I'm like, I've only got two, two pairs of hands and I can only be in
11:28one place at one bar. But this is, you know, like that Piri Piri sauce, this is my version
11:33of the Piri Piri sauce. No, it's not your version, it's your mum's version.
11:36My mum's version, yeah. Can we have your, is your daughter still there? You say she's
11:40there. Yeah, Amara. Can we have her? Because Gabby wants to come and say hello.
11:44Yeah. I'd like you, I'd like her to give it, I want her to smell it and tell me what
11:48it smells of. Okay, Amara, can you tell Gabby what this smells of? So this is, this is my
11:55daughter coming, sweetheart. Hello, Amara. Hi.
11:57Hi, beautiful girl. How are you doing? You all right?
12:00I'm just watching stuff on my iPad. Yeah, I don't know.
12:04Can you hear Gabby? Friday night. Right.
12:06Can you hear Gabby? I've got these in. I don't know what I've got these in for. You're
12:08coming through the phone. I'm dusting. So what I'd love you to do, my darling, is I'd like
12:13you to smell it and then tell me what it smells, what it reminds me of, what it smells of,
12:19okay? So why don't you smell it? And what, what can you smell and tell Gabby?
12:25It kind of smells like someone's tomato soup.
12:30Okay. That's good. I like that. And do you love your mum's chicken?
12:36Yes.
12:37Is it the best?
12:38Yes.
12:39They do love it. Honestly, they think they're in heaven. When I do this, the standard chicken
12:43curry, they just love it. It's just having the time to do it, though.
12:46And now we've got time. We do have, look, she's loving it.
12:50So do you think that your mum should sell this in shock?
12:54Definitely.
12:55Did you just get something in your eye? I think she just blew something to her eye.
12:59Oh no, you're right. She's giggling.
13:02Yeah, she's fine.
13:04Don't watch your iPad, so long as your eyes are okay. Bless her.
13:08Bless her.
13:10So what's it like being, having the kids at home all the time and, and, and homeschooling
13:15and all of that? How's that? She's still there. Bless her.
13:18How's it been?
13:18It's been, it's been fun. I mean, I have to say I've got, you know, I've got Zach and Amara
13:23and they've been brilliant. They really understand, you know, from school, they've got to get their
13:28homework done. They come in, they have their little routine. But it's getting to that stage
13:33now, Gabby, where, you know, I'm just worried that for my kids, they haven't seen their friends
13:37since March. You know, they're stuck in, in the house. Of course, they go to walks with us,
13:42but there's only so much you can do with mummy and daddy. They need their playtime. They need
13:45their sleepovers. They need their playdates. But they've been absolutely brilliant. But it's hard.
13:50And I feel, you know, you have that mum guilt always, don't you? Because they're working,
13:54doing their thing. I'm doing my thing. My husband's doing his thing.
13:58So I try and think they're resilient. It'll be fine. It's not forever. This is just an
14:04unusual situation and we just have to get over it. But also, Amara, do you think, because
14:10I always say to my kids that when they look back on this, that they feel that they've really,
14:15they've actually had a good time in places and also they would have learned a lot from
14:19it. It's not necessarily all about having your head in a book, but there's the walks and
14:24the talks and the fresh air and the birdsong and all of that. Do you feel that?
14:29Yes.
14:29We've done a lot of cooking, haven't we, together?
14:31Which she's really enjoyed, which she wouldn't have had the opportunity. And tomorrow, what
14:35are we going to do tomorrow?
14:36Bake a cake.
14:37We're going to bake a cake together.
14:38What cake?
14:39What cake do you want to do?
14:41Probably chocolate cake. That's the best.
14:43There we go. I had a feeling you might say that.
14:48Predictable chocolate cake.
14:50How about the exercising? Because you also, you keep mentioning exercising. Have you been
14:53doing that together?
14:55Yes. So when I actually, I was really good at the beginning because I just said, right,
14:5911 o'clock, have, you know, take yourself away from your computers.
15:02Yeah, but 11 o'clock I can't anymore. Do I have a lesson?
15:05Okay, she can't do that anymore. But so I did, I did sort of like stretching with them
15:09and some, you know, cardio and stuff. What I found really interesting, the kids are really
15:14good at jumping around, but you get them to touch their toes, they can't do it.
15:18I can.
15:19No, you can. But it was really like, my kids are really not flexible. So I was like, right,
15:24we better start on that.
15:25Yeah. And I've been doing a couple of 5K runs with my son just to kind of get them out.
15:30But it's hard to do everything. You know, at school, they have that routine. You have a bit
15:34of work, then you have playtime. When you've got two parents working at home, it's quite
15:38difficult to step, you know, tear yourself away from that and then, you know, give them
15:43a full-time school education as well.
15:45Yeah, but also the cooking, that's science.
15:47That's it, exactly.
15:48That's an education.
15:49I really liked what Kirsty, oh, what's her name? What's her name? The lovely lady who
15:56does all the home stuff, Kirsty. Oh, anyway, she basically said that it's brilliant that
16:02these kids have got this opportunity because they're going to learn some common sense, you
16:07know, life skills, which they wouldn't learn at school. Things like, you know, how to
16:12cut bread and how to make a toast and how to boil an egg and that kind of thing, which
16:16I agree with.
16:17So on the whole, I get the feeling that you've been all right. You're saying, OK, I can do
16:22this. We're getting there.
16:24Yeah. I mean, Gabby, for me, I think the fact that I've kept myself busy and that's how
16:29I know that I knew that I had to do something every day to make sure that my mental health
16:35was
16:36in check. So that's why I kept busy. And having that time and also having Instagram, that's
16:41been a lifesaver for me. I've made a proper community on my...
16:46It's a relatively happy place, Instagram. I think Twitter's a bit dark these days, but
16:52Instagram is a really lovely community. You're right.
16:55And they've kept me going, you know, and we've been working out together. We've done
16:58lives. And so keeping myself busy every day actually has been brilliant. And I've just felt
17:05very grateful to have this opportunity to actually take the foot off the pedal. But
17:11now I'm quite happy to kind of get back into normal, whatever that's going to be.
17:15Oh, and it's wonderful.
17:17I've been in a happy place. And yeah, and I thought my 50th was going to be a really sad
17:22occasion. You know, I arranged so much for actually one of the happiest days of my life
17:26because all the loose girls got together. We had a bit of a drink over a Zoom chat. They
17:33were all there. So it was lovely. Really nice.
17:35Oh, I'm so pleased. Well, as I said, happy birthday. Thank you for joining us today.
17:39And also, can I just say, and I've said this to your face in real life, but you glow.
17:45You actually glow.
17:48Oh, thank you, darling. And honestly, it's because I think I do so much exercise and all
17:53the toxins come out. So I really recommend that to people. It's just like, get a bit of
17:57sweat on and you will glow. I promise.
17:59Well, go on and make your delicious curries.
18:02Lovely to see you.
18:03Lots of love to see you.
18:04Bye, darling.
18:05Love and love.
18:06Bye.
18:07Oh, bless her. The glowing, the glowing serum. Now we have Vicky. I know that Vicky is standing
18:14by. I just saw that she's there standing by. Vicky, come on in. I just, this girl, she's
18:21just naughty, but with this, this glint in her eye. My word. Hello, lovely.
18:29Hello, Gabby. You all right?
18:30Oh, you with that glint in your eye.
18:34I don't know about that. I feel like I'm probably always up the summit, aren't I?
18:37No, but that's what, and also you're just, you're you. You're really, you're you. I think
18:44it was about three or four years ago I met you when you came on the Saturday show and
18:47I left there just going, yes, girl. There was, and also, can I just say, I think you've
18:53done a phenomenal job. I know you get your trolling and I hate people that do that, okay?
18:59I hate it and you don't deserve it. But what you've done and all the food delivery, so in
19:04case people don't know about that, thank you for doing that, but tell everybody what you've
19:08been doing.
19:09Oh, thank you, Gabby. It's honestly, thank you so much for asking us on as well. You're
19:13a breath of fresh air, such a real sunshine.
19:15Thank you. So when lockdown started, like everybody else, I think I just totally panicked,
19:22was super scared with all of the uncertainty. And one thing that sort of stood out to me
19:28was that it was those pictures of the elderly people, the old man, the old woman, just staring
19:35at ransacked shelves with empty sort of supermarket baskets. And I couldn't look at them any longer
19:40because I just thought I could be my grandma or that could be my granda. And like, I just,
19:45I couldn't look at it. So I, um, I sort of put together a project with a couple of friends
19:50of mine, um, got in touch with some big brands, like Vitties, um, Princes, Branston Beans,
19:58Hovers, Robinsons, Whitwats, all of the usual offenders, um, and put together some lovely,
20:03uh, I've been calling them isolation care packages for the elderly. So yeah, so, uh,
20:08once a week, every Thursday, we all got together, a bunch of volunteers packed these boxes and
20:13with the help of Age UK, helped send them out to various different parts of the UK and
20:17people who needed them.
20:19That's fantastic. How many boxes did you send out?
20:22Um, over the course of about 10 weeks, we sent out like 7,000 boxes. Um, so it's, it's quite,
20:28quite a large number. Yeah. Um, we, it makes me quite emotional. Do you know, that's what Sarah
20:33was just saying it as well, but I think that the most incredible thing to come out of all of
20:37this
20:38is there is such good and kindness out there. There really, really is.
20:43Yeah. I think, I think you have to, I think it has been tough for everybody and it has been
20:47a really,
20:47really hard and awkward, um, like three months, but yeah, I have noticed there's just kindness
20:53and beauty and selflessness all around if you look. And I like to, I like to share my sort of
21:00motivational support stuff across social media. Um, and I have noticed that there's more and more
21:05people doing the same thing. Like I'm sure you've seen, did you see the, um, the, the lovely woman
21:11who worked in the care home and she put a picture of, um, the older gentleman's wife on a pillow
21:16for
21:16him. Oh, yes. It was lovely. And it caused like,
21:21the lovely, uh, the doctor, the person who worked at the NHS and the, her sister had been looking
21:28after the kids and she crept up behind them. I stopped. Oh, goodness me. So for you, I mean,
21:38you're always very, very busy. And so have you found it difficult going from super busy to
21:44actually time to breathe? Yeah. Yeah. I think, I think there's probably a lot of people out there
21:51who've struggled with the same thing. And, um, I've been living my life like sort of like a million
21:56miles an hour for like the last 10 years, God knows however long, which I know people can relate to.
22:02Um, and probably the scariest thing about this entire, um, situation for me, or at least one of
22:06them was learning to take me foot off the gas. Um, because like when you are left to your own
22:13devices, I always think the devil makes work for idle hands. So yeah, it was hard at first. Um,
22:20and I think that's why I probably started things like the isolation care package project. Um,
22:25because I just was, I needed a purpose. I needed to feel busy. Um, but as the, as the times
22:32gone on,
22:33I've started to realize that maybe I was just probably busy for the sake of it before.
22:38Um, yeah. And, and like, I remember he's like crammed me days with things that I didn't necessarily
22:44need to do, um, just to wear this, like, Oh, I've been so busy, like, like a badge of honor.
22:50Um, and
22:51actually I've, I've quite enjoyed having some time to myself, um, getting in the kitchen, reading a good
22:56book, catching up on all my box sets. Um, so no, it's been a proper eye opener, very illuminating couple
23:02of months. Scary, but illuminating. So for you, we, we know so much about you because you've done
23:07the reality shows. I mean, you know how much I loved you in the jungle. I just thought you were
23:12wonderful in there. That was when everybody really got to know you and an audience. I, I, you know,
23:17I hadn't watched, uh, Geordie Shaw, but I caught up with it when I knew I was going to interview
23:22you.
23:22So of course I watched it, but I think the jungle people suddenly saw you. And then when you did
23:27the,
23:28um, I'm the, I'm a celebrity, get me out of here. Yep. Yeah. Get me out of here now. It
23:35was just,
23:36that was the real you. And it was like, it was as if you accepted yourself for who you were
23:42as well.
23:43Yeah. There was a, I think you felt, it was like you changed in a, in a, like you'd suddenly
23:49gone,
23:49okay, yeah, this is me. Honestly, like Gabs, I feel like the person I was on Geordie Shaw,
23:56which is for anyone who doesn't know where it obviously got me start. Like I was early twenties.
24:01Um, a lot of people comment on the changeness and stuff. And like, I'm, I'm never offended.
24:06Like I have grown up an awful lot. Um, and I, I, I do think grown up. I'm just saying
24:11as if you
24:12know yourself now. Yeah, I do think, I think it comes, it comes with age. Um, and also I think
24:18as
24:18well, like, I think the jungle was such a lovely platform for us to just be able to show me
24:25true
24:25self to kind of like, however many people, like 14 million or something, which is just crazy numbers.
24:32And in one fell swoop, I was able to, to maybe change some people's opinions who might've had a
24:37negative one of us from Geordie Shaw, also introduce myself to people who might not have known us at all.
24:42And like, kind of just show the real me. And it was a lovely opportunity and I'll forever be grateful
24:48to Ant and Derek, IDV, everybody for, for letting us do that. Cause yeah, it's been a nice journey
24:54since then. And also, of course, then you did, um, MasterChef. I did last year. How good were you on
25:02that?
25:03Oh, Gabby, I was so nervous for like three months. Yeah. Honestly, I was like sweating from behind
25:10the knees for like three months. I didn't even know you could sweat from there.
25:14There was much more. You had to go through what you went through in the jungle and all the other
25:18stuff and all the stuff that's gone into your real life. And then suddenly you're nervous about
25:22doing cooking. Really? Yeah. Honestly, like out of everything I've done, like the jungle or hunted,
25:29release the hounds, quite tempestuous personal life. Nothing has truly made me nervous and made me
25:36have anxiety and made me sweat, like putting a plate of food in front of Greg and John.
25:41That was it for me. The height of anxiety was preparing food for those two.
25:48Oh my word. And how long, how, how much planning do you get to make that stuff? Do you, do
25:54you know,
25:54do you have a vague idea of what's going to happen?
25:57So, um, certain, certain challenges are exactly as they appear. Like you are presented with,
26:03like, you know, the invention challenges where there's just all of those amazing ingredients in
26:07front of you and you have to run up and grab them. It's exactly as you see, you've got to
26:13think on
26:13your feet, you've got to pull something from your arsenal, um, and you've just got to, you've got to
26:17go for it and commit and really try and put something good out on a plate. But there are other
26:22challenges
26:22where you're given, um, sort of like a week to kind of practice. Things like, um, we would, we did
26:28one
26:28and it was, um, preparing something that means something to you. And I made a dish about Newcastle,
26:33obviously, cause I'm very proud. Um, and you're given sort of a week to practice that one, but
26:38yeah, there's a right mix of things. Test your, test your life. And then you mentioned as well,
26:44um, Celebrity Hunted. What, that's just, that must just be the strangest thing to be a part of.
26:51That must be frightening as well. Yeah. It's a different kind of fear. Um, and I think it's a kind
26:57of fear
26:58often we have never experienced before, like who has been hunted and that is literally exactly how
27:05you feel. You, you feel a bit like you can't relax. So it was me and Don Jolly, um, and
27:12our relationship
27:12was relatively new. Um, and I'm so pleased I did it with him cause he was just a proper, a
27:17nice man,
27:18really positive, kept like a good support structure to have. But yeah, like honestly,
27:23like months after I couldn't fall asleep properly. Yeah. I'd catch myself like drifting off and I'd
27:30jump awake, think, thinking you can't relax. You're being followed. They're there. They're
27:34going to get you. You are so on edge. It's like nothing I've ever known before. I traumatized
27:39as a little bit. Do you think that some of that that you've gone through has helped you for all
27:45of this then maybe? Probably to a certain extent, like I've been cooped up in a jungle.
27:52I've been hiding from things. I've been terrified. I've been all of the things that probably certain
27:57members of the public are feeling now, but I think the nice thing about this and there,
28:02there aren't many, but it is that we're all in it together. Yes, I agree. I absolutely agree.
28:07Now let's talk about your private life. We're not talking about the past. We're talking about
28:11right now. Okay. I'm not going back over all that stuff. I really, I don't like all of that.
28:16I don't like that people keep dragging up people's private life. I don't. You seem a very happy lady
28:22at the moment. Thank you. Yeah, no, I am. I've absolutely no complaints. Me and my lovely
28:29boyfriend, Erkan, have been living in Essex for about, well, just before lockdown started really.
28:36So we're lucky. We just got sorted here. And yeah, it's, I mean, we've had one moment in
28:42isolation, which I'm sure everybody has. You're normal. Thank goodness. You're normal. Yay.
28:49But yeah, other than that, honestly, I kind of complain. He's doing the shop now. I'm going
28:53to cook tea. We're going to watch a film. I think it's sort of, we're out of the honeymoon
28:58period, but it feels like we've settled into a really nice kind of romantic bliss, I suppose.
29:04So yeah, I can't complain. Am I allowed to ask what you think the future is? Is he, is
29:10he, is the one? I'd like to think so. Yeah. Like I absolutely would love to think so. He's
29:17the first man who's ever made us properly relax and feel secure. Oh, wow. Nice, nice vibes.
29:25That is fantastic. And also, do you know something else I love that you do, which we've talked
29:31about before, but you do, you, you say about Instagram, you say, this is me. Do you think
29:37that that message is getting across to young, especially girls? I know guys, it affects
29:42guys as well, but there was a lot of filter. I can't bear all those filter things. You
29:47know, when people say, oh, you've got wrinkles. I go, yeah, I'm my age. I am. I've had a life.
29:52But, but you, you were like, do you, do you think that young people are, are getting the
29:57message? Do you think it's getting easier for them or do you think it's tougher now? What
30:00do you think? Oh, such a tough one. By the way, I think you look incredible. I love all your
30:06fashion
30:07things. It's a tough one. I think for a while when Instagram was just new and people realized
30:16this incredible power it could have to launch you as an influencer or to create this incredible
30:22image of perfection and to just, to just create whatever image you wanted through this tiny
30:28little highlight reel of your life. I think it was very dangerous for a while and people
30:33were living a fake life, the living and portraying whatever they wanted, which of course, I don't,
30:40I think it's too much pressure on a person, but it's also incredibly detrimental to all
30:45of the young people who are watching and thinking, God, she's so naturally gorgeous and God, look
30:50at all the places she goes and her relationship's perfect. Like none of these things are, are real,
30:57of course, and it's not fair for young impressionable minds to look at them and think that they
31:02are the norm. So I think that was a trend for a while, but I think slowly but surely we
31:09are,
31:09we are working our way out of it. And what is becoming refreshingly the new norm is honesty,
31:15is vulnerability, is wrinkles, is spots, is a hangover face or a sweaty face after a workout. It's,
31:22it's lovely, genuine things because I dread to think what I would have done if I'd grown up with
31:30social media. I don't think I'd be the person I am now. I think I'd really struggle with my,
31:35my confidence. Um, so yeah, I'm trying to do a wee bit. Gabs?
31:39No, I think that's great. I really think it's important. And I, I think the more, you know,
31:43lots of people blamed magazines or blamed models or whatever, but you can't blame anybody. But,
31:51but people want, I mean, I, I just live a completely mad life and I am crazy and I do
31:56jump
31:56around all the time and I drive my children mad. But, but I just think that we have to be
32:01aware
32:02that there are a lot of young kids out there who just, they, they want to filter everything
32:07and they just, and actually, no, don't, you know, be you, don't do it. Because actually,
32:15when you get to my age, you look at young people, you go, you look fabulous, enjoy it and celebrate
32:20it.
32:22I think, I think you're so right. And we like, we're not made to be perfect. We're made to be
32:28human. Um, and the problem that I think I have always had with Instagram is it's made
32:34perfect, the new normal. So therefore normal is not desirable, but actually cabs, like all I've
32:40ever wanted in my whole life was to have a nice, normal relationship with someone who loved us,
32:45was to have a job that I loved, was to be able to like spend time with wonderful family and
32:50friends,
32:50like, actually I crave normal and we should all aim for like nice, normal, lovely lives. Um, so yeah,
32:57so I'd like to think I'm, I'm, I'm helping to pave the way on Instagram for people to just be
33:03happy
33:03with who they are and embrace their imperfections and just love their normal. Well, you know what,
33:09the wonderful editor in chief, Rosie Nixon of Hello, just put up a message here and I'm just going to
33:15out. She just said, she's so lovely and you are, and I'm so thrilled that maybe a new audience has
33:22just seen this, who hadn't seen you before, because I think you're a really good girl. I really do. And
33:27you know, I've said that to your face and I message you and say, I really do. And I think
33:32that you're
33:33doing a lot of good out there and carry on doing what you do. And, and also all those care
33:37packages
33:37you did, you know, it was, it wasn't a small thing that you did. It was huge. So thank you
33:42very much.
33:43And it's such a joy to talk to you, my lovely. Honestly, guys, I could cry. Thank you so much
33:48for having us. I hope you have a lovely weekend. Lots of love. Bye bye, lovely. Oh, she's just a
33:55say real lovely, lovely person, really lovely person, a good girl with a very kind heart. And, and
34:03always the reason I'm, I know I say again and again and again, the reason that I'm so proud to
34:09be a
34:09part of this and do Hello, Let's Gab with Hello magazine is because their hashtag, which is hello to
34:14kindness. And that means everything to me. And I think that Vicky's very kind girl. Thank you very much.
34:21I just have to say again, you're all mentioning this shirt. So this is from Lisu London. She's a
34:26designer here in London. And it's beautiful. And this isn't mine. She's a we've we're handing it
34:34over to whoever wants it. It's we've if you go onto my feed at Gabby Roslyn, we just want somebody
34:40to
34:40nominate somebody who's done something incredible over the past few weeks. And I'm going to pick a
34:45winner out of the hat. So Lisu London, Renee, thank you very much for being able to pass on kindness.
34:50You see kindness. And I think she's an amazing designer. So that's why we've done it. Melissa,
34:54come on in Melissa Hemsley. Let's get you up here. My gorgeous girl. And we're going to be getting
35:00some food to snack attack queen herself. Hello. Come on in with Henry. Come on in. Come on in.
35:08Lovely, lovely.
35:13Hi, Gabby.
35:14What an amazing show. I fall in love. I fall in love with all your guests every week. And I
35:20immediately go follow, follow, follow.
35:22But what's so lovely is I think through this show, you get to see that a side of them that
35:28you might not see on their own feed or that you see on TV shows because people are at home
35:31and they're being very much and Sarah's great. She's sassy. And Vicky is just isn't she honest?
35:38She's a good girl. Like I said, she's a good girl.
35:41I love what she's been doing with her isolation kits. I think that's such an amazing idea. And
35:45like you both said, how good if people only knew how two way helping someone else out feels. Yes,
35:53you're helping someone out, but it feels good. And that's okay. That's not selfish to feel that
35:57that's real human connection. I love it.
35:59Absolutely. And that's what Hello is all about. And that's why we do this. My gorgeous
36:03co-host. So Melissa, is Henry there?
36:07Oh, he is.
36:10He's not the only one with a good shirt on today. He's got a bow like this to me. He'll
36:16see a shirt in a minute.
36:17Oh, I can't wait. I can't wait. Okay, so today, something very weird happened. Again,
36:23we keep doing this. If you want to tell everybody, go on.
36:26Well, Gabby and I texting away as we always do on a Friday morning about things that we,
36:32that I might make this evening.
36:33Not we, but you make.
36:35I might make. You know, a lot of thought goes into this. But we also just texting each other
36:39about things that have been happening or ingredients that Gabby's got or her cousin's got. And we
36:44exchange ideas. We have a lot of fun. And I said to Gabby, I had this watermelon, right?
36:50That had been hanging out and I'd been snacking on it when it was hot. You know, it was hot
36:53a week ago.
36:55And then I thought today, I've got some lovely, lovely goat sheets. I'm going to put it on it.
36:59And I said to Gabby, I'm going to do watermelon goat sheets. And Gabby, I recorded a video to Gabby.
37:04She, she voice note me back going, Oh, my word. Oh, my word. I've just told my daughter that this
37:10is what I'm going to do for lunch tomorrow.
37:11I'm going to do whipped feta with watermelon, red onion, fresh, fresh oranges and some black olives.
37:21So, we are just, we're food sisters. We're food spirit sisters. So, for anyone that knows their watermelon and cheese
37:28flavours, you are doing this all the time anyway.
37:31For everyone else, your new best friend is watermelon or any melon with some goat cheese and feta.
37:39It's just incredible. I was scared of trying it.
37:43It's just incredible.
37:44So, what have you got? That's watermelon.
37:47Oh, I need a bit of an angle, Henry. I've got a plate of watermelon here, a bit of a
37:52British goat cheese there, some olives from a jar there.
37:55And I've simply piled it on. I'll pop a bit of pepper. Gabby, you mentioned orange juice you could put
38:01on.
38:02And maybe a herb if you're feeling fancy. And it's just a lovely little refreshing bite.
38:06Obviously, sweet, juicy watermelon, creamy, salty goat cheese or feta, and a lovely olive on top.
38:12You can put the caper. You can put anything you want. Henry, it's just going in your mouth.
38:16Come on, Henry. Let's see his shirt then. Oh, good shirt, Henry.
38:23Good shirt.
38:26Mmm.
38:28Mmm, that's really good.
38:29Is that really good?
38:30He was surprised. Henry, it seemed that you were a bit surprised. You weren't sure you were going to like
38:35that.
38:36No, no, I knew I was going to like it. I knew I liked the combination of the cheese.
38:39Oh, good. That's all right.
38:41Thumbs up. Double.
38:42Double thumbs up. Yes. Yes.
38:45Um, uh, Henry's just done a mad workout. So I think he's a bit, whoo.
38:50And I'm like, quick, Henry, Gabby, run down the stairs.
38:54Um, so that's watermelon. And also, I can't remember where I've seen it. I'm going to have to check my
38:59save.
39:00Like, I'm always saving ideas on Instagram.
39:02I saw someone say that they had a watermelon rind chutney idea. And you know that I'm all about not
39:08wasting. But I didn't, hadn't made a chutney. So I'm going to look that up and I'll report back next
39:12week.
39:12Oh, can you? Yes, please. Oh, I don't. That's brilliant. Because there's so much. I waste makes me very angry.
39:19I can't bear it. So yes, I love that idea. Okay.
39:22And going back to what you guys were talking about right at the beginning, chutneys are an amazing way of
39:27getting, yeah, watermelon rind in. But also apples, bananas, soft fruits that have got a bit bruised. And then lovely
39:33spices to bring it all together. So I will, I'll show you that next week then.
39:37Okay. Brilliant. Brilliant.
39:38And then when Gabby and I were chatting, I said, Gabby, do you know these amazing brothers? And Gabby does
39:44know them.
39:44I do. And they are fantastic. Original flavor. They've been on my radio show. And they are just the loveliest,
39:51loveliest guys. And I love following them on Instagram as well.
39:54I need to just find you a picture of some of their photos. I mean, they've got gorgeous photos. They're
39:59from South London. They talk about traveling in Jamaica to see their family. Love this. Nanny's cold and flu remedy.
40:08I love their parents. I love their Instagram. Their parents and grandparents pop up and tell stories. And I love
40:15hearing about other people's families and the things, all the sort of ways they got told off when they were
40:20younger and what they now do.
40:22And sort of they realize that was something they were told off loads for as a kid. And it's something
40:27they totally are proud and embrace as an adult. So I've been re-looking through this. I met them a
40:32couple of years ago.
40:32They cooked for myself and a couple of friends. Amazing guys. Craig and Sean. Give them a follow.
40:38And I don't know. I thought the weather report said it was going to be lovely this weekend.
40:44Yes, apparently tomorrow. It's going to be nicer tomorrow.
40:47So then I was thinking about all of us thinking about Vicky as well. Lots of tinned goods.
40:52We might still have lots of tinned goods that we've got in the cupboard.
40:55So I just got out some red kidney beans and some black beans and they have a gorgeous bean salad
41:00in there.
41:01But I don't want to give away every single part of it because that's in their book and you've got
41:06to get that book to get it.
41:07But I love the Caribbean flavor they added to it.
41:11So the thyme, the chili, the use of the beans, all their favorite beans.
41:17And I thought, how often do you have a bean salad and it's a bit bland?
41:20Yes. Well, actually, I'm not one of those people. I'm never sure.
41:24OK, I'm going to be really honest. I'm never sure what to do with my black beans.
41:28OK, well, this is it. This is, they call for black beans, kidney beans and butter beans.
41:33I just had the two, the kidney beans and the butter beans.
41:36And what I've done here, I'll show you, I sort of laid it out.
41:39We've got here cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red cabbage, which if I'm honest,
41:44I feel like cabbages are quite a good one to have to hand because they're cheap, they're cheerful and they
41:49last.
41:49I've got my kidney beans and my red kidney beans.
41:51I'm sorry, my black beans and my red kidney beans.
41:54Salt, parsley, they recommend coriander or parsley and olive oil and some balsamic.
41:59I've got a little bit of orange left over from my cocktail.
42:03So I'm just going to squeeze that in too.
42:06And loads of olive oil.
42:08And it's just, I've made their beans before.
42:11Oh, I've forgotten their brilliant ingredient that they add.
42:14Lots of dried thyme.
42:16And I wanted to show you this packet because I think it's so fantastic, this plastic-free packet.
42:20It's refillable.
42:21Payback, yes.
42:23Exactly.
42:24So you mix it all together.
42:25We might have a bit of it tonight, but actually I think a good bean salad and red onion, sorry,
42:31tastes even better tomorrow.
42:33So while this isn't...
42:34Red onion with it, that's the thing.
42:36That's the thing.
42:38And while it's not a snack, and this segment is the snack attack, I'm saying to Gabby,
42:44this is the sort of thing I will make loads of, pop it in the fridge, and I bring it
42:48out
42:48at every meal over a weekend.
42:50And it's so colourful, so full of veg, so full of good stuff.
42:54And I love the flavour that the thyme brings to it.
42:57I've never thought of putting thyme with that.
43:00That's a lovely idea.
43:03Let's get it down Henry's mouth.
43:05Here you go, Henry.
43:07And as I say, it's going to taste better.
43:10So if you make it in the morning, it'll be even more lovely.
43:13I'll make a small mouthful.
43:20Thyme is really good.
43:22It's the thyme.
43:23It's the thyme.
43:24And the onions.
43:25And the onions.
43:26And the beans.
43:28But you know, one more thing, Gabby, have I got one second to shout out one more person?
43:33Yes.
43:35I bought this book, How to Build a Healthy Brain, three weeks ago.
43:40It's by Kimberly Wilson.
43:41She came onto my Instagram yesterday, and we talked about some ways that we can protect
43:47and build a healthier brain, which I know you will be so keen to hear about.
43:52I think all of us, the conversation around mental health has been brilliant.
43:56Long may it continue and get wider, but also the brain health, really thinking about how
44:00we can look after ourselves.
44:02Kimberly Wilson, she's a chartered psychologist.
44:04She's got a master's in nutrition.
44:06Her advice is to up our oily fish intake and to eat lots of fiber, beans, and so on.
