00:00What kind of fall can you expect this year?
00:02Accuweather's long range experts say a strengthening El Nino is likely to reshape the season,
00:06bringing warmer conditions to parts of the east, wetter weather across much of the south
00:10and weather patterns that look very different than normal.
00:13One of the biggest takeaways, temperatures are forecast to average a bit warmer than historical
00:17averages across much of the country, especially in the east.
00:20At the same time, much of the south is expected to be wetter than normal,
00:23while parts of the northern U.S. trend drier.
00:25That drier pattern keeps wildfire concerns elevated across parts of the northwest
00:29and smoke could occasionally spread hundreds or even thousands of miles downwind.
00:33But our lead long-range forecaster says Southern California could actually catch a break.
00:37It looks like they could have some tropical moisture that could produce maybe a little bit of severe weather
00:42in Southern California during the month of September, early October,
00:45which would actually interrupt the dry season, which is good news for fire prevention going forward.
00:52As we move deeper into fall, the focus for severe weather shifts south,
00:55with the southern plains Gulf Coast and Tennessee Valley facing the greatest potential for storm.
00:59So if you're already thinking about winter, the first snowflakes of the season could reach the highest elevations of the
01:04Rockies
01:04by late September, with snow becoming more common through October and November.
01:08So whether you're counting down to sweater weather, or you're holding on to summer for as long as you can,
01:13this is a forecast you'll want to pay attention to.
